Abstract
A bifunctional thiourea-amine-based organocatalyst (Takemoto's catalyst), employing a metal-free approach, is presented for the regioselective ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of optically active (D and L) methyl glycolide (MG). In this study, a chiral version of Takemoto's catalyst efficiently promotes the ROP of MG at room temperature, yielding poly(lactic-co-glycolic acids) (PLGAs) with predicted molecular weights and narrow polydispersity indices (PDI≤1.2). These PLGAs exhibit highly alternating structures without transesterification, as confirmed by 1H NMR, SEC, and MALDI-TOF analyses. Additionally, various macromolecular architectures, including linear and star-shaped PLGAs, were successfully synthesized using the corresponding multi-functional alcohol initiators while maintaining the same alternating structures and regioselectivity with PLGA obtained from benzyl alcohol as initiator. Computational studies were conducted to elucidate the mechanism of alternating PLGA formation, revealing two key transition states (TSs): TS-1, which implicates the nucleophilic attack of the hydroxyl group of the initiator or propagating chain on the carbonyl carbon of MG, and TS-2, which involves the subsequent ring-opening of the cyclic ester. The results indicate that ring-opening occurs at both the glycolyl and lactyl sites, with a preference for the glycolyl site, as supported by experimental results. The resulting atactic PLGAs are amorphous, rendering them suitable for drug delivery applications.

Abstract
Asymmetric kinetic resolution polymerization (AKRP) provides an ideal way to obtain highly isotactic polylactide (PLA) with superior thermal-mechanical properties from racemic lactide (rac-LA). However, the development of a new catalytic system with concurrent high activity and selectivity at ambient temperature remains a great callenge. Here, a series of simple and effective binary organocatalytic pairs containing axial-chiral thioureas and commercially available phosphazene bases were designed. These chiral binary organocatalytic pairs allow for both high polymerization activity and moderate enantioselectivity for AKRP of rac-LA at room temperature, yielding semi-crystalline and metal-free stereoblock PLA with a melting temperature as high as 186 °C. The highest kinetic resolution coefficient (krel) of 8.5 at 47 % conversion was obtained, and D-LA was preferentially polymerized via kinetic resolution with a maximum selectivity factor (kD/kL) of 18.1, indicating that an enantiomorphic site control mechanism (ESC) was involved.

Abstract
Organocatalyzed ring-opening polymerization (ROP) is a versatile technique for synthesizing biodegradable polymers, including polyesters and polycarbonates. We introduce o-phenylene bisurea (OPBU) (di)anions as a novel class of organocatalysts that are fast, easily tunable, mildly basic, and exceptionally selective. These catalysts surpass previous generations, such as thiourea, urea, and TBD, in selectivity (kp/ktr) by 8 to 120 times. OPBU catalysts facilitate the ROP of various monomers, achieving high conversions (>95%) in seconds to minutes, producing polymers with precise molecular weights and very low dispersities (Đ ≈ 1.01). This performance nearly matches the ideal distribution expected from living polymerization (Poisson distribution). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the catalysts stabilize the oxyanion transition state via a hydrogen bond pocket similar to the "oxyanion hole" in enzymatic catalysis. Both experimental and theoretical analyses highlight the critical role of the semirigid o-phenylene linker in creating a hydrogen bond pocket that is tight yet flexible enough to accommodate the oxyanion transition state effectively. These new insights have provided a new class of organic catalysts whose accessibility, moderate basicity, excellent solubility, and unparalleled selectivity and tunability open up new opportunities for controlled polymer synthesis.

Abstract
A new organocatalyst for the ring-opening polymerization of lactones has been identified. Under the tested conditions, the anions of 2,2'-bisindole promote fast, living polymerizations (as short as 10 ms) which are selective for chain elongation over transesterification (Đ ≤ 1.1). While structurally related to (thio)urea anion catalysts, anions of 2,2'-bisindole activate the monomer via the counterion rather than through hydrogen bonding. This new activation motif enables modulation of the polymerization rate by 2 orders of magnitude by changing the counterion.

Abstract
There is a growing interest surrounding morpholine-2,5-dione-based materials due to their impressive biocompatibility as well as their capacity to break down by hydrolytic and enzymatic pathways. In this study, the ring-opening (co)polymerization of leucine-derived 3S-(isobutyl)morpholine-2,5-dione (MD) and lactide (LA) was performed via ball-milling using a catalytic system composed of 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU) and 3-[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-1-cyclohexylthiourea (TU). Once the homopolymerizations of MD and LA optimized and numerous parameters were studied, the mechanochemical ring-opening copolymerization of these monomers was explored. The feasibility of ring-opening copolymerizations in mechanochemical systems was demonstrated and a range of P(MD-co-LA) copolymers were produced with varying proportions of MD (23%, 48%, and 69%). Furthermore, the beneficial cocatalytic effects of TU with regards to ROP control were found to be operative within mechanochemical systems. Further parallels were observed between solution- and mechanochemical-based ROPs.

Abstract
Control of stereoregularity is inherent to precision polymerization chemistry for the development of functional materials. A prototypal example of this strategy is the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of racemic lactide (rac-LA), a bio-sourced monomer. Despite significant advances in organocatalysis, stereoselective ROP of rac-LA employing chiral organocatalysts remains unexplored. Here we tackle that challenge by resorting to Takemoto's catalyst, a chiral aminothiourea, in the presence of a phosphazene base. This chiral binary organocatalytic system allows for fast, chemo- and stereoselective ROP of rac-LA at room temperature, yielding highly isotactic, semi-crystalline and metal-free polylactide, with a melting temperature as high as 187 °C.

Abstract
As compared with widely used polyolefin materials, aliphatic polyesters have
been primarily used in electronics, packaging, and biomedicine owing to its unique biocompatibility
and degradability. At present, ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of lactone is the
main method to synthesize polyesters. Two types of catalysts, including metal-based catalysts
and organocatalysts, were most researched today. However, metal-based catalysts lead
to polymer materials with metal residues, which limits its properties and applications. As a
result, organocatalysts have received great attention. In this review, the progress of organocatalytic
ring-opening polymerization in the past decades was systematically summarized.
The potential challenges and development directions in this field are also discussed.

Abstract
Organocatalysis is highly efficient in the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic esters. A variety of initiators broaden the areas of organocatalysis in polymerization of different monomers, such as lactones, cyclic carbonates, lactides or gycolides, ethylene phosphates and phosphonates, and others. The mechanisms of organocatalytic ROP are at least as diverse as the mechanisms of coordination ROP; the study of these mechanisms is critical in ensuring the polymer compositions and architectures. The use of density functional theory (DFT) methods for comparative modeling and visualization of organocatalytic ROP pathways, in line with experimental proof of the structures of the reaction intermediates, make it possible to establish these mechanisms. In the present review, which continues and complements our recent manuscript that focused on DFT modeling of coordination ROP, we summarized the results of DFT modeling of organocatalytic ROP of cyclic esters and some related organocatalytic processes, such as polyester transesterification.

Abstract
Organocatalysis provides a powerful alternative in many polymerization reactions and nowadays has become a valuable tool for polymer chemists. The key reason for transitioning to organocatalysts is not only their ability to be effectively removed from resultant products, but also, their potential to exquisitely control the catalytic activity and selectivity of the polymerization processes. While organocatalysis has been largely implemented in research laboratories, its use in industrial bulk polymerization processes is still scarce. This is mostly due to the poor thermal stability of organocatalysts at temperatures (150-250 °C) usually employed for industrial polymerizations. In this Viewpoint, we highlight the recent advances of the use of acid-base ionic mixtures in high temperatures bulk polymerization reactions. First, we will focus on the synthesis, characterization, difunctional catalytic properties, and thermal stability of these acid-base mixtures. Afterward, we will emphasize the recent literature describing their use in chain growth and step-growth polymerizations. Moreover, the highlight will also draw attention to recent efforts in the use of these acid-base mixtures in polymer recycling by means of depolymerization.
