Selective oxidation of alcohol-d 1 to aldehyde-d 1 using MnO2

The selective oxidation of alcohol-d₁ to prepare aldehyde-d₁ was newly developed by means of NaBD₄ reduction/activated MnO₂ oxidation. Various aldehyde-d₁ derivatives including aromatic and unsaturated aldehyde-d₁ can be prepared with a high deuterium incorporation ratio (up to 98% D). Halogens (chloride, bromide, and iodide), alkene, alkyne, ester, nitro, and cyano groups in the substrates are tolerated under the mild conditions.

A facile method for deutrium incorporation into aldehydes by mild reduction of NaBD₄ of aldehydes and MnO₂ oxidation (98% D) is disclosed.

Cobalt-Catalyzed Chemoselective Transfer Hydrogenative Cyclization Cascade of Enone-Tethered Aldehydes

The ligand-free Co-catalyzed chemoselective reductive cyclization cascade of enone-tethered aldehydes with i-PrOH as the environmentally benign hydrogen surrogate is developed by this study. Mechanistic studies disclosed that such a protocol is initiated by an ortho-enone-assisted Co(I)-catalyzed reduction of the aldehyde functionality with i-PrOH. Meanwhile, the selectivity from the Michael-Aldol cycloreduction cascade to the oxa-Michael cascade is feasible and readily adjusted by the addition of steric Lewis bases, such as TEMPO and DABCO, delivering substituted 1H-indenes and dihydroisobenzofurans, respectively.

Ruthenium-catalysed chemoselective alkylation of nitroarenes with alkanols

The alkylation of nitroarenes with akanols catalysed by the phosphinesulfonate ruthenium complex was reported. It displays different reactivity and chemoselectivity depending on the acid–base conditions, delivering diverse anilines from nitroarenes.

One stone two birds: cobalt-catalyzed in situ generation of isocyanates and benzyl alcohols for the synthesis of N-aryl carbamates

An efficient method for the synthesis of N-aryl carbamates from N-Boc-protected amines has been developed. The cobalt-catalyzed in situ generation of isocyanates from N-Boc-protected amines and benzyl alcohols from benzyl formates has been achieved for the first time, which in turn furnished the corresponding benzyl carbamates in moderate to high yields. The reaction was catalyzed by CoI₂ with tris-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)-phosphine as the ligand and zinc powder as the reductant. The developed reaction conditions were found to be compatible for aromatic amines with both electron-donating and -withdrawing substituents.

Cobalt-catalyzed direct transformation of aldehydes to esters: the crucial role of an enone as a mediator
