Abstract
Organic molecules containing a difluoroalkyl group are valuable and versatile chemicals because of their unique physicochemical and biological properties. Accordingly, the development of efficient and practical difluoroalkylation for the preparation of these compounds is important and attractive. Herein, we demonstrate photoredox-catalyzed and base-dependent selective carbodifluoroalkylation and halodifluoroalkylation of alkenes using readily available 2-(allyloxy)arylaldehydes [or 2-(allylamino)arylaldehydes] and XCF2COOEt (or BrCF2CONR1R2) as starting materials. The developed reaction enables convenient and accurate synthesis of difluoroalkylated chroman-4-ones and aldehydes and features broad substrate scope, mild conditions, and operational simplicity. Moreover, gram-scale product preparation and application of the title protocol in late-stage functionalization of pharmaceutical molecules are accomplished.

Abstract
A convenient silver-promoted radical cascade aryldifluoromethylation/cyclization of 2-allyloxybenzaldehydes has been developed. Experimental studies disclosed that the addition of aryldifluoromethyl radicals in situ produced from easily accessible gem-difluoroarylacetic acids to unactivated double bonds in 2-allyloxybenzaldehyde was an effective route to access a series of 3-aryldifluoromethyl-containing chroman-4-one derivatives in moderate to good yields under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract
Dichalcogenides (disulfides and diselenides), as reactants for organic transformations, are important and widely used because of their potential to react with nucleophiles, electrophilic reagents, and radical precursors. In recent years, in combination with photochemical technology, the application of dichalcogenides as stable radical reagents has opened up a new route to the synthesis of various sulfur- and selenium-containing compounds. In this paper, synthetic strategies for disulfides and diselenides and their applications with photochemical technology are reviewed: (i) Cyclization of dichalcogenides with alkenes and alkynes; (ii) direct selenylation/sulfuration of C-H/C-C/C-N bonds; (iii) visible-light-enabled seleno- and sulfur-bifunctionalization of alkenes/alkynes; and (iv) Direct construction of the C(sp)-S bond. In addition, the scopes, limitations, and mechanisms of some reactions are also described.

Abstract
A metal- and aldehyde-free visible-light-driven photoredox-neutral alkene acylarylation with readily available cyanoarenes is described. A variety of 3-(arylmethyl)chroman-4-ones (i.e., homoisoflavonoids) and analogs are efficiently synthesized with good functional group tolerance. This mild protocol relies on a phosphoranyl radical-mediated acyl radical-initiated cyclization and selective radical-radical coupling sequence, and is also further highlighted by subsequent derivatization to chromone and 2H-chromene as well as its application in the three-component alkene acylarylation.

Abstract
An efficient and straightforward approach for the synthesis of carbamoylated chroman-4-ones has been well-developed. The reaction is triggered through the generation of carbamoyl radicals from oxamic acids under metal-free conditions, which subsequently undergoes decarboxylative radical cascade cyclization on 2-(allyloxy)arylaldehydes to afford various amide-containing chroman-4-one scaffolds with high functional group tolerance and a broad substrate scope.

Abstract
A family of thermoresponsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) [PNIPAM]-grafted cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) was synthesized via a novel silver-promoted decarboxylative polymerization approach. This method relies on the oxidative decarboxylation of carboxylic acid groups to initiate free radicals on the surface of CNFs. The polymerization reaction employs relatively mild reaction conditions and can be performed in a one-step, one-pot fashion. This rapid reaction forms a C─C bond between CNF and PNIPAM, along with the formation of free polymer in solution. The degree of functionalization (DF) and the amount of PNIPAM grafted can be controlled by the Ag concentration in the reaction. Similar to native bulk PNIPAM, PNIPAM-grafted CNFs (PNIPAM-g-CNFs) show remarkable thermoresponsive properties, albeit exhibiting a slight hysteresis between the heating and cooling stages. Grafting PNIPAM from CNFs changes its cloud point from about 32 to 36 °C, influenced by the hydrophilic nature of CNFs. Unlike physical blending, covalently tethering PNIPAM transforms the originally inert CNFs into thermosensitive biomaterials. The Ag concentration used does not significantly change the cloud point of PNIPAM-g-CNFs, while the cloud point slightly decreases with fiber concentration. Rheological studies demonstrated the sol-gel transition of PNIPAM-g-CNFs and revealed that the storage modulus (G') above cloud point increases with the amount of PNIPAM grafted. The novel chemistry developed paves the way for the polymerization of any vinyl monomer from the surface of CNFs and carbohydrates. This study validates a novel approach to graft PNIPAM from CNFs for the synthesis of new thermoresponsive and transparent hydrogels for a wide range of applications.

Abstract
A nitrogen-centered radical-mediated carbon-carbon bond cleavage strategy is described to synthesize functionalized 3-acylcoumarins. The strategy is enabled by the visible-light-induced acylation/cyclization of alkynoates with various acyl oxime compounds in acetonitrile. The difunctionalization of carbon-carbon triple bonds precedes the generation of iminyl radicals, which is followed by the formation of acyl radicals. The acyl radicals then attack the carbon-carbon triple bonds, followed by 5-exo-trig cyclization and 1,2-ester migration. This strategy has wide substrate adaptability and good substituent tolerance.

Abstract
A convenient and efficient visible-light-induced tandem acylation/cyclization of N-propargylindoles with aryl- or alkyl-substituted acyl oxime esters for the synthesis of 2-acyl-substituted 9H-pyrrolo[1,2-a]indoles under transition-metal-free conditions, which proceeds via nitrogen-centered radical-mediated cleavage of the C-C σ-bond in acyl oxime esters, is established. The aryl or alkyl acyl radicals, which come from acyl oxime esters, attack the C-C triple bonds in N-propargylindoles and then go through intramolecular cyclization/isomerization.

Abstract
Diacyl peroxides, which can be easily synthesized from corresponding carboxylic acids, are commonly utilized as radical initiators and one electron oxidants. Under thermal, transition-metal catalysis or irradiation conditions the cleavage of relatively weak O-O bonds would occur followed by CO2 extrusion to generate the corresponding aryl or alkyl radicals. Thus, diacyl peroxides can be employed as ideal arylating and alkylating reagents in organic synthesis, including C-H/N-H arylation/alkylation, aryl/alkyl radical addition to unsaturated bonds, hetero arylation/alkylation, eliminative arylation/alkylation, perfluoroalkylation etc. Moreover, these arylation/alkylation protocols have been successfully utilized in the synthesis and late-stage functionalization of natural products as well as bioactive molecules. In this review, recent advances on arylation and alkylation using diacyl peroxides as aryl and alkyl radical sources are summarized and discussed.

Abstract
A novel and practical fluoroalkyl radical-initiated cascade reaction was developed to access diverse 2-fluoroalkylbenzothiazoles by reacting various fluoroalkyl radical sources, including perfluoroalkyl iodide (IC nF2 n+1, n = 3-8, 10), ICF(CF3)2, ICF2COOEt, ICF2CF2Cl, or ICF2CF2Br, tetramethylethane-1,2-diamine (TMEDA), and 2-isocyanoaryl thioethers in tetrahydrofuran under nitrogen atmosphere and blue-light irradiation conditions. Furthermore, this one-pot protocol could well be expanded to access various 2-fluoroalkylbenzoselenazoles starting from (2-isocyanophenyl)(methyl)selane, perfluoroalkyl iodides (IC nF2 n+1, n = 3-8) or ICF2COOEt and TMEDA.

Abstract
A simple and efficient decarboxylative radical addition/cyclization strategy was developed, by which a wide range of benzimidazo[2,1-a]isoquinoline-6(5H)-ones were prepared in one-pot via reaction of functionalized 2-arylbenzoimidazoles and carboxylic acids in the presence of K2S2O8/AgNO3 under mild reaction conditions.
