Abstract
We report a dual metal-catalyzed method for the cross-coupling of unprotected alcohols by exploiting the β-Si effect. This deoxygenative Suzuki-Miyaura reaction tolerates a range of primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohol substrates along with diverse functional groups and heterocycles. Mechanistic experiments including KIE, VTNA, and Eyring analyses suggest the existence of a carbocation intermediate on the reaction pathway, consistent with a rare SN1 pathway for the activation of an electrophile in cross-coupling reactions. A novel bis-imidazolium N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand was found to be optimal for reactivity, and nickel(0)-, nickel(I)- and nickel(II)- complexes of this ligand were isolated and characterized. In contrast to more well-established shorter chain ligands, these long-chain NHCs are found to have characteristically large bite angles, which may be critical for enabling the deoxygenative arylation of aliphatic alcohols.

Abstract
Alzheimer's disease, the commonest cause of dementia, is a growing global health concern with huge implications for individuals and society. Stroke has still been a significant challenge in clinics for a long time, which is the second leading cause of death in the world, especially ischemic stroke. Both Alzheimer's disease and stroke are closely related to oxidative stress and HIF-1 signaling pathways in nerve cells. Herein, we describe our structure-based design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of a new class of 8-biaryl-2,2-dimethylbenzopyranamide derivatives as natural product derivatives. Our efforts have resulted in the discovery of highly potent neuroprotective agents, as exemplified by compound D13 as a HIF-1α inhibitor, which significant improvement in the behavior of Alzheimer's disease mice and shows great potential improvement of brain infarct volume in pMCAO model rats, improves the increase of blood-brain barrier permeability after cerebral ischemia in rats, neuroprotective effect, reduce the level of apoptotic cells in rats after cerebral ischemia, better than Edaravone.

Abstract
A unique N,O-bidentate ligand 6-oxo-1,6-dihydro-pyridone-2-carboxylic acid dimethylamide (L1) catalyzed direct C(sp2)-H (intra/intermolecular) arylation of unactivated arenes has been developed to expedite access to (Het)biaryl scaffolds under UV-irradiation at room temperature. The protocol tolerated diverse functional groups and substitution patterns, affording the target products in moderate to excellent yields. Mechanistic investigations were also carried out to better understand the reaction pathway. Furthermore, the synthetic applicability of this unified approach has been showcased via the construction of biologically relevant 4-quinolone, tricyclic lactam and sultam derivatives.

Abstract
A novel non-C2-symmetric bis-benzimidazolium salt derived from (±)-valinol has been prepared by a simple and straightforward process in good yield. The structure of bis-benzimidazolium salt provided a bulky steric group on the ethylene bridge; which facilitates the catalytic efficacy in the C(sp2)-C(sp2) formation. Its catalytic activity in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of unactivated aryl chlorides has been found to have high efficacy in 1 mol% Pd loading. This protocol demonstrated the potential on the synthesis of sterically hindered biaryls.

Abstract
The 90 kDa heat shock proteins (Hsp90) are molecular chaperones that are responsible for the folding and/or trafficking of ∼400 client proteins, many of which are directly associated with cancer progression. Consequently, inhibition of Hsp90 can exhibit similar activity as combination therapy as multiple signaling nodes can be targeted simultaneously. In fact, seventeen small-molecule inhibitors that bind the Hsp90 N-terminus entered clinical trials for the treatment of cancer, all of which exhibited pan-inhibitory activity against all four Hsp90 isoforms. Unfortunately, most demonstrated undesired effects alongside induction of the pro-survival heat shock response. As a result, isoform-selective inhibitors have been sought to overcome these detriments. Described herein is a structure-based approach to design Hsp90β-selective inhibitors along with preliminary SAR. In the end, compound 5 was shown to manifest ∼370-fold selectivity for Hsp90β versus Hsp90α, and induced the degradation of select Hsp90β-dependent clients. These data support the development of Hsp90β-selective inhibitors as a new paradigm to overcome the detriments associated with pan-inhibition of Hsp90.

Abstract
A new series of xylyl-linked bis-benzimidazolium salts were efficiently prepared using a simple preparation method from bis-benzimidazolium precursors featuring highly tunable linkers and wingtips. A highly efficient Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of aryl chlorides within the range of 0.5–2.0 mol% Pd-catalyst loading was observed. Also, di-ortho-substituted biaryl synthesis was achieved.

Abstract
The bis-NHC–Ag/Pd(OAc)2 catalytic system (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene), a combination of bis-NHC–Ag complex and Pd(OAc)2, was found to be a smart catalyst in the Pd-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation of various functionalized arenes and internal/terminal alkynes. The catalytic system demonstrated high efficiency for the reduction of a wide range of various functional groups such as carbonyls, alkynes, olefins, and nitro groups in good to excellent yields and high chemoselectivity for the reduction of functional groups. In addition, the protocol was successfully exploited to stereoselectivity for the transformation of alkynes to alkenes in aqueous media under air. This methodology successfully provided an alternative useful protocol for reducing various functional groups and a simple operational protocol for transfer hydrogenation.
