Addition of arylstannanes to alkynes giving ortho-alkenylarylstannanes catalysed cooperatively by a rhodium complex and zinc chloride

Copper-Catalyzed Regio- and Stereoselective Formal Hydro(borylmethylsilyl)ation of Internal Alkynes via Alkenyl-to-Alkyl 1,4-Copper Migration

Catalytic reactions involving 1,n-metal migration from carbon to carbon enable a nonclassical way of constructing organic molecular skeletons, rapidly providing complex molecules from relatively simple precursors. By utilization of this attractive feature, a new and efficient synthesis of alkenylsilylmethylboronates has been developed by formal hydro(borylmethylsilyl)ation of unsymmetric internal alkynes with silylboronates under copper catalysis. The reaction proceeds regioselectively and involves an unprecedented alkenyl-to-alkyl 1,4-copper migration. The reaction mechanism has been investigated by a series of kinetic, NMR, and deuterium-labeling experiments.

Rhodium-Catalyzed Three-Component Reaction of Alkynes, Arylzinc Chlorides, and Iodomethanes Producing Trisubstituted/Tetrasubstituted Alkenes with/without 1,4-Migration

A three-component reaction of alkynes, arylzinc chlorides, and iodomethanes was found to proceed in the presence of a rhodium catalyst to give high yields of trisubstituted/tetrasubstituted alkenes. The usual arylzinc chlorides only gave trisubstituted alkenes, generated through a migratory carbozincation-cross-coupling sequence, where 1,4-Rh migration from an alkenyl carbon to an aryl carbon occurred. In contrast, 5-membered heteroarylzinc chlorides only gave the tetrasubstituted alkenes via a carborhodation-cross-coupling pathway without 1,4-migration.

Rhodium-Catalyzed Chemodivergent Pyridylation of Alkynes with Pyridylboronic Acids

The pyridylation of alkynes with pyridylboronic acids is realized under rhodium catalysis. Chemodivergent pyridylation products, including alkenylpyridines produced via the hydropyridylation pathway and cyclopenta[c]pyridines produced via the pyridylation/cyclization pathway, were selectively produced by fine-tuning the reaction conditions. A mechanistic study revealed that 1,4-rhodium migration to the pyridine ring was involved as the key step in the chemodivergent synthesis.

Catalytic enantioselective arylative cyclizations of alkynyl 1,3-diketones by 1,4-rhodium(i) migration

The enantioselective synthesis of densely functionalized polycarbocycles by the rhodium(i)-catalyzed reaction of arylboronic acids with 1,3-diketones is described. The key step in these desymmetrizing domino addition–cyclization reactions is an alkenyl-to-aryl 1,4-Rh(i) migration, which enables arylboronic acids to function effectively as 1,2-dimetalloarene surrogates.

Catalytic asymmetric synthesis of 2,5-dihydrofurans using synergistic bifunctional Ag catalysis

We report a bifunctional Ag catalyst promoted intramolecular capture of oxonium ylides with alkynes for the enantioselective synthesis of 2,5-dihydrofurans. This represents unprecedented synergistic catalysis of a bifunctional Ag catalyst. Mechanistic studies revealed that [(R)-3,5-DM-BINAP](AgSbF₆)₂ (9) is likely to be the active catalytic species and that the reaction involves second order kinetics with respect to 9, suggesting that two molecules of 9 are involved in the intramolecular trapping of a Ag-associated oxonium ylide with a Ag-activated alkyne. Based on our mechanistic hypothesis, we further optimized the reaction, rendering a facile approach to 2,5-dihydrofurans in good to excellent yields in a highly chemo- and enantioselective fashion.
