Abstract
Developing a highly active catalyst that can efficiently capture and convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into high-value-added energy materials remains a severe challenge, which inspires us to explore effective metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with high chemical stability and high-density active sites. Herein, we report a robust 3D lead(II)-organic framework of {(Me2NH2)2[Pb5(PTTPA)2(H2O)3]·2DMF·3H2O}n (NUC-111) with unreported [Pb10(COO)22(H2O)6] clusters (abbreviated as {Pb10}) as nodes (H6PTTPA = 4,4',4″-(pyridine-2,4,6-triyl)triisophthalic acid). After thermal activation, NUC-111a is functionalized by the multifarious symbiotic acid-base active sites of open Pb2+ sites and uncoordinated pyridine groups on the inner surface of the void volume. Gas adsorption tests confirm that NUC-111a displays a higher separation performance for mixed gases of f CO2 and CH4 with the selectivity of CO2/CH4 at 273 K and 101 kPa being 31 (1:99, v/v), 23 (15:85, v/v), and 8 (50:50, v/v), respectively. When the temperature rises to 298 K, the selectivity of CO2/CH4 at 101 kPa is 26 (1:99, v/v), 22 (15:85, v/v), and 11 (50:50, v/v). Moreover, activated NUC-111a exhibited excellent catalytic performance, stability, and recyclability for the cycloaddition of CO2 with epoxides under mild conditions. Hence, this work provides valuable insight into designing MOFs with multifunctionality for CO2 capture, separation, and conversion.

Abstract
Thermocatalysis of CO2 into high valuable products is an efficient and green method for mitigating global warming and other environmental problems, of which Noble-metal-free metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are one of the most promising heterogeneous catalysts for CO2 thermocatalysis, and many excellent researches have been published. Hence, this review focuses on the valuable products obtained from various CO2 conversion reactions catalyzed by noble-metal-free MOFs, such as cyclic carbonates, oxazolidinones, carboxylic acids, N-phenylformamide, methanol, ethanol, and methane. We classified these published references according to the types of products, and analyzed the methods for improving the catalytic efficiency of MOFs in CO2 reaction. The advantages of using noble-metal-free MOF catalysts for CO2 conversion were also discussed along the text. This review concludes with future perspectives on the challenges to be addressed and potential research directions. We believe that this review will be helpful to readers and attract more scientists to join the topic of CO2 conversion.

Abstract
The presence of toxic mercury (II) in water is an ever-growing problem on earth that has various harmful effect on human health and aquatic living organisms. Therefore, detection of mercury (II) in water is very much crucial and several researches are going on in this topic. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered as an effective device for sensing of toxic heavy metal ions in water. The tunable functionalities with large surface area of highly semiconducting MOFs enhance its activity towards fluorescence sensing. In this study, we are reporting one highly selective and sensitive luminescent sensor for the detection of mercury (II) in water. A series of binary MOF composites were synthesized using in-situ solvothermal synthetic technique for fluorescence sensing of Hg2+ in water. The well-distributed graphitic carbon nitride quantum dots on porous zirconium-based MOF improve Hg2+ sensing activity in water owing to their great electronic and optical properties. The binary MOF composite (2) i.e., the sensor exhibited excellent limit of detection (LOD) value of 2.4 nmol/L for Hg2+. The sensor also exhibited excellent performance for mercury (II) detection in real water samples. The characterizations of the synthesized materials were done using various spectroscopic techniques and the fluorescence sensing mechanism was studied.

Abstract
The efficient catalytic performance displayed by MOFs is decided by an appropriate charge/radius ratio of defect metal sites, large enough solvent-accessible channels and Lewis base sites capable of polarizing substrate molecules. Herein, the solvothermal self-assembly led to a highly robust nanochannel-based framework of {[In4(CPDD)2(μ3-OH)2(DMF)(H2O)2]·2DMF·5H2O}n (NUC-66) with a 56.8% void volume, which is a combination of a tetranuclear cluster [In4(μ3-OH)2(COO)10(DMF)(H2O)2] (abbreviated as {In4}) and a conjugated tetracyclic pentacarboxylic acid ligand of 4,4'-(4-(4-carboxyphenyl)pyridine-2,6-diyl)diisophthalic acid (H5CPDD). To the best of our knowledge, NUC-66 is a rarely reported {In4}-based 3D framework with embedded hierarchical triangular-microporous (2.9 Å) and hexagonal-nanoporous (12.0 Å) channels, which are shaped by six rows of {In4} clusters. After solvent exchange and vacuum drying, the surface of nanochannels in desolvated NUC-66a is modified by unsaturated In3+ ions, Npyridine atoms and μ3-OH groups, all of which display polarization ability towards polar molecules due to their Lewis acidity or basicity. The catalytic experiments performed showed that NUC-66a had high catalytic activity in the cycloaddition reactions of epoxides with CO2 under mild conditions, which should be ascribed to its structural advantages including nanoscale channels, rich bifunctional active sites, large surface areas and chemical stability. Moreover, NUC-66a, as a heterogeneous catalyst, could greatly accelerate the Knoevenagel condensation reactions of aldehydes and malononitrile. Hence, this work confirms that the development of rigid nanoporous cluster-based MOFs built on metal ions with a high charge and large radius ratio will be more likely to realize practical applications, such as catalysis, adsorption and separation of gas, etc.

Abstract
In this review, aspects of the synthesis, framework topologies, and biomedical applications of highly porous metal-organic frameworks are discussed. The term "highly porous metal-organic frameworks" (HPMOFs) is used to denote MOFs with a surface area larger than 4000 m2 g-1. Such compounds are suitable for the encapsulation of a variety of large guest molecules, ranging from organic dyes to drugs and proteins, and hence they can address major contemporary challenges in the environmental and biomedical field. Numerous synthetic approaches towards HPMOFs have been developed and discussed herein. Attempts are made to categorise the most successful synthetic strategies; however, these are often not independent from each other, and a combination of different parameters is required to be thoroughly considered for the synthesis of stable HPMOFs. The majority of the HPMOFs in this review are of special interest not only because of their high porosity and fascinating structures, but also due to their capability to encapsulate and deliver drugs, proteins, enzymes, genes, or cells; hence, they are excellent candidates in biomedical applications that involve drug delivery, enzyme immobilisation, gene targeting, etc. The encapsulation strategies are described, and the MOFs are categorised according to the type of biomolecule they are able to encapsulate. The research field of HPMOFs has witnessed tremendous development recently. Their intriguing features and potential applications attract researchers' interest and promise an auspicious future for this class of highly porous materials.

Abstract
It is a significant challenge to construct chiral metal-organic frameworks (CMOFs) by developing a facile and green preparation strategy. In this work, CMOFs were first synthesized via a mechanochemical process by combining a truncated mixed ligand strategy and defect engineering theory. The simple, green, and rapid construction strategy could solvent-freely harvest gram-scale CMOFs with a hierarchical micro/mesoporous structure. The as-synthesized CMOFs were evaluated by Aldol asymmetric catalysis and exhibited excellent catalytic performance (conversion was up to 97.1%, the ee value was 44.3%, and the activity was still good after 5 cycles).

Abstract
The high catalytic activity of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can be realized by increasing their effective active sites, which prompts us to perform the functionalization on selected linkers by introducing a strong Lewis basic group of fluorine. Herein, the exquisite combination of paddle-wheel [Cu2(CO2)4(H2O)] clusters and meticulously designed fluorine-funtionalized tetratopic 2',3'-difluoro-[p-terphenyl]-3,3″,5,5″-tetracarboxylic acid (F-H4ptta) engenders one peculiar nanocaged {Cu2}-organic framework of {[Cu2(F-ptta)(H2O)2]·5DMF·2H2O}n (NUC-54), which features two types of nanocaged voids (9.8 Å × 17.2 Å and 10.1 Å × 12.4 Å) shaped by 12 paddle-wheel [Cu2(COO)4H2O)2] secondary building units, leaving a calculated solvent-accessible void volume of 60.6%. Because of the introduction of plentifully Lewis base sites of fluorine groups, activated NUC-54a exhibits excellent catalytic performance on the cycloaddition reaction of CO2 with various epoxides under mild conditions. Moreover, to expand the catalytic scope, the deacetalization-Knoevenagel condensation reactions of benzaldehyde dimethyl acetal and malononitrile were performed using the heterogenous catalyst of NUC-54a. Also, NUC-54a features high recyclability and catalytic stability with excellent catalytic performance in subsequent catalytic tests. Therefore, this work not only puts forward a new solution for developing high-efficiency heterogeneous catalysts, but also enriches the functionalization strategies for nanoporous MOFs.

Abstract
Lead (Pb) is one of the most widespread and highly toxic heavy metals in the environment. The design and synthesis of adsorbent materials for the selective and efficient removal of Pb2+ from aqueous solution has received much attention. Herein, the ligand 4,4'-azoxydibenzoic acid with the O- group was elaborately selected to construct a novel Pr-based MOF for Pb2+ removal. The as-prepared MOF adsorbents with high stability exhibited ultra-high selectivity for Pb2+, even in the presence of various highly concentrated competitive ions (with the ratios from 1 : 5 to 1 : 50). Also, a high uptake capacity (560.26 mg g-1) can be achieved for the MOF material, due to the availability of sufficient adsorption sites. The strong electrostatic attraction and coordination interaction between the numerous active O- sites on MOF adsorbents and Pb2+ can account for the good adsorption performance for Pb2+, which was systematically verified by zeta potential, FT-IR and XPS studies.

Abstract
Stable metal-organic frameworks containing periodically arranged nanosized pores and active Lewis acid-base active sites are considered as ideal candidates for efficient heterogeneous catalysis. Herein, the exquisite combination of [Y2(CO2)7(H2O)2] cluster (abbreviated as {Y2}) and multifunctional linker of 2,4,6-tri(2,4-dicarboxyphenyl)pyridine (H6TDP) led to a nanoporous framework of {[Y2(TDP)(H2O)2]·5H2O·4DMF}n (NUC-53, NUC = North University of China), which is a rarely reported binuclear three-dimensional (3D) framework with hierarchical tetragonal-microporous (0.78 nm) and octagonal-nanoporous (1.75 nm) channels. The inner walls of these channels are aligned by {Y2} clusters and plentifully coexisted Lewis acid-base sites of YIII ions and Npyridine atoms. Furthermore, NUC-53 has a quite large void volume of ∼65.2%, which is significantly higher than most documented 3D rare-earth-based MOFs. The performed catalytic experiments exhibited that activated NUC-53 showed a high catalytic activity on the cycloaddition reactions of CO2 with styrene oxide under mild conditions with excellent turnover number (TON: 1980) and turnover frequency (TOF: 495 h-1). Moreover, the deacetalization-Knoevenagel condensation reactions of benzaldehyde dimethyl acetal and malononitrile could be efficiently prompted by the heterogeneous catalyst of NUC-53. These findings not only pave the way for the construction of nanoporous MOF based on rare-earth clusters with a variety of catalytic activities but also provide some new insights into the catalytic mechanism.

Abstract
Developing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) derived microwave absorbers with the merits of thin matching thickness, broad bandwidth and strong absorption still remains a big challenge in the electromagnetic absorption field. Herein, FeNi-MOFs derived magnetic-carbon composites were fabricated via a solvothermal and pyrolytic two-step strategy. It was found that the micromorphology of carbon frameworks could be regulated from the regular octahedron to spherical shape through facilely adjusting the molar ratios of Fe3+ to Ni2+ in the precursors. Furthermore, results revealed that the molar ratios of Fe3+ to Ni2+ had notable effects on the electromagnetic parameters and microwave attenuation capacity of attained composites. Significantly, the obtained FeNi/C composite with the molar ratio of Fe3+ to Ni2+ of 1:0.5 showed the comprehensively optimal electromagnetic attenuation performance, i.e. the reflection loss achieved -40.2 dB (larger than 99.99% absorption) and absorption frequency band was as high as 5.8 GHz (from 11.9 to 17.7 GHz, covering 96.7% of Ku-band) under an ultrathin thickness of 1.65 mm. Besides, the probable microwave dissipation mechanisms were clarified, which mainly derived from the optimized impedance matching, strengthened interfacial polarization and dipole polarization relaxation, enhanced conduction loss and natural resonance effect. Therefore, our results would be helpful for designing and developing high-performance microwave absorbing composites derived from MOFs.

Abstract
Herein, the exquisite combination of coplanar [Tm4(CO2)10(μ3-OH)2(μ2-HCO2)(OH2)2] clusters ({Tm4}) and structure-oriented functional BDCP5- leads to the highly robust nanoporous {Tm4}-organic framework {(Me2NH2)[Tm4(BDCP)2(μ3-OH)2(μ2-HCO2)(H2O)2]·7DMF·5H2O}n (NUC-37, H5BDCP = 2,6-bis(2,4-dicarboxylphenyl)-4-(4-carboxylphenyl)pyridine). To the best of our knowledge, NUC-37 is the first anionic {Ln4}-based three-dimensional framework with embedded hierarchical microporous and nanoporous channels, among which each larger one is shaped by six rows of coplanar {Tm4} clusters and characterized by plentiful coexisting Lewis acid-base sites on the inner wall including open TmIII sites, Npyridine atoms, μ3-OH and μ2-HCO2. Catalytic experimental studies exhibit that NUC-37 possesses highly selective catalytic activity on the cycloaddition of epoxides with CO2 as well as high recyclability under gentle conditions, which should be ascribed to its nanoscale channels, rich bifunctional active sites, and stable physicochemical properties. This work offers an effective means for synthesizing productive cluster-based Ln-MOF catalysts by employing structure-oriented ligands and controlling the solvothermal reaction conditions.

Abstract
Many effluents contain various antibiotics commonly, where the simultaneous removal of them is a big challenge. In this study, the magnetic biocomposite (eggshell-zeolitic imidazolate framework) was designed and synthesized by green and facile method. Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) particles were stabilized on the surface of magnetic eggshell (Fe3O4-ES), generating a new Fe3O4-ES/ZIF-8 adsorbent, which was also fully characterized using FTIR, XRD, SEM and BET techniques. Thereafter, norfloxacin (NOR) adsorption processes were investigated through different influencing factors (dosage, concentration, pH and temperature). The Langmuir adsorption isotherm could confirm a maximum removal efficiency of 80.13% for NOR. Kinetic studies illustrated that the pseudo-first-order model was in line with the experimental data of the simultaneous removal of NOR. Moreover, the magnetic nature of the adsorbent caused an easy separation from the aqueous solution.

With respect to the multifarious symbiotic Lewis acid-base and Brønsted acid sites in the high porous framework, the catalytic performance of activated NUC-42a upon CO2 cycloaddition with styrene oxide was evaluated under solvent-free conditions with 1 atm of CO2 pressure, which exhibited that the reaction could be well completed at ambient temperature within 48 h or at 60 °C within 4 h with high yield and selectivity. Moreover, because of the acidic function of metal sites and a central free pyridine in the TDP6- ligand, deacetalization-Knoevenagel condensation of acetals and malononitrile could be efficiently facilitated by an activated sample of NUC-42a under lukewarm conditions.

Abstract
Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) as a class of crystalline materials are constructed using metal nodes and organic spacers. Polydentate N-donor ligands play a mainstay-type role in the construction of metal-organic frameworks, especially cationic MOFs. Highly stable cationic MOFs with high porosity and open channels exhibit distinct advantages, they can act as a powerful ion exchange platform for the capture of toxic heavy-metal oxoanions through a Single-Crystal to Single-Crystal (SC-SC) pattern. Porous luminescent MOFs can act as nano-sized containers to encapsulate guest emitters and construct multi-emitter materials for chemical sensing. This feature article reviews the synthesis and application of porous Metal-Organic Frameworks based on tridentate ligand tris (4-(1H-imidazol-1-yl) phenyl) amine (TIPA) and focuses on design strategies for the synthesis of TIPA-dominated Metal-Organic Frameworks with high porosity and stability. The design strategies are integrated into four types: small organic molecule as auxiliaries, inorganic oxyanion as auxiliaries, small organic molecule as secondary linkers, and metal clusters as nodes. The applications of ratiometric sensing, the adsorption of oxyanions contaminants from water, and small molecule gas storage are summarized. We hope to provide experience and inspiration in the design and construction of highly porous MOFs base on polydentate N-donor ligands.

Abstract
On the basis of different V-shaped ligands, three zirconium-organic frameworks (JLU-Liu45, Zr-SDBA, and Zr-OBBA) have been successfully constructed. By regulating spatial configuration and functional groups of organic ligands, these as-synthesized Zr-MOFs (MOF = metal-organic framework) display distinct structures and different light hydrocarbon adsorption/separation capabilities. JLU-Liu45, with a double-walled interpenetrated 3D primitive cubic (pcu) framework, exhibits good gas-adsorption capacity but not prominent selective separation ability. Through regulating sizes and torsion angles of the organic ligands, Zr-SDBA possesses a 2D square lattice (sql) network, while Zr-OBBA displays a non-interpenetrated 3D pcu framework. Furthermore, by regulating functional groups on the ligands, Zr-SDBA shows prominent C2H2 uptake (101.2 cm3·g-1) and the best C2H2/CH4 selectivity (230.5, 1:1) among the three Zr-MOFs, and Zr-OBBA shows a significant C3H8/CH4 selectivity (105.6, 1:1). This work demonstrates the feasibility of structural regulation for MOF materials in the light hydrocarbon adsorption/separation field.

Abstract
A high loading of Mn(ii)-metalated porphyrin was achievable in a 2D porphyrin-based Mn-MOF induced by an ionic liquid. The excellent stability, sufficient redox potential, atomically dispersed porphyrin Mn(ii) sites, desired CO2 affinity, high visible light-harvesting and efficient charge separation, endow this MOF with the overall photocatalytic conversion of CO2 to CH4 in gas-solid conditions.

Abstract
The metal-organic rotaxane framework (MORF) structures with the advantage of mechanically interlocking molecules (MIMs) have attracted intense interest from the chemical community. In this study, a set of MORFs (i.e., MORF-Pb-1 and MORF-Pb-2) are constructed using Pb2+, a tetraimidazolium macrocycle (Texas-sized molecular box; 14+), and aromatic dicarboxylate (p-phthalate dianions (PTADAs; 2) or 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate dianions (3)) via a one-pot three-layer diffusion protocol. In particular, an unusual Pb…Pb weak interaction was shown in MORF-Pb-1 (charactered with distance of 3.656 Å).

Abstract
Still today, cancer remains a threat to human health. Possible common treatments to cure this disease include chemotherapy (CT), radiotherapy (RT), photothermal therapy (PTT), and surgical resection, which give unreasonable results because of their limited efficiency and also lead to side-effects. Hence, different strategies are now being exploited to not only enhance the efficiency of these traditional therapeutic methods or treat the tumor cells but also curtail the side effects. A latest method with authentic proof of chemodynamic therapy (CDT) utilizing the Fenton reaction is now gaining importance. This approach, which is developed based on the high level of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in a tumor microenvironment (TME), can be used to catalyze the Fenton reaction to generate cancer cell-killing reactive oxygen species (ROS). The selection of materials is extremely important and nanomaterials offer the most likely method to facilitate CDT. Among various materials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) which have been extensively applied in medical areas are regarded as a promising material and possess potential for the next generation of nanotechnology. This review focuses on summarizing the use of MOFs in CDT and their synergetic therapeutics as well as the challenges, obstacles, and development.

Abstract
A unique 4-fold interpenetrated metal-organic framework, TIF-1, was synthesized by combining an anionic indium node with a cationic linker. This framework shows a rare type of 4-fold interpenetrated dia network, constructed from tessellation of biangular and tetragonal type metal-organic micropores. The porosity of TIF-1 is moderate due to four-fold interpenetration and charge-balancing anions. The cationic feature of this MOF may give good efficiency for selective small anion exchange or separation. In addition, the thermal stability and moderate CO2 adsorption property of the complex were studied.
