Abstract
The new homodinuclear complexes of the general formula [Ln2L3(NO3)3] (where HL is newly synthesized 2-((2-(benzoxazol-2-yl)-2-methylhydrazono)methyl)phenol and Ln = Sm3+ (1), Eu3+ (2), Tb3+ (3a, 3b), Dy3+ (4), Ho3+ (5), Er3+ (6), Tm3+ (7), Yb3+ (8)), have been synthesized from the lanthanide(III) nitrates with the polydentate hydrazone Schiff base ligand. The flexibility of this unsymmetrical Schiff base ligand containing N2O binding moiety, attractive for lanthanide metal ions, allowed for a self-assembly of these complexes. The compounds were characterized by spectroscopic data (ESI-MS, IR, UV/Vis, luminescence) and by the X-ray structure determination of the single crystals, all of which appeared to be different solvents. The analytical data suggested 2:3 metal:ligand stoichiometry in these complexes, and this was further confirmed by the structural results. The metal cations are nine-coordinated, by nitrogen and oxygen donor atoms. The complexes are two-centered, with three oxygen atoms in bridging positions. There are two types of structures, differing by the sources of terminal (non-bridging) coordination centers (group A: two ligands, one nitro anion/one ligand, two nitro anions, group B: three ligands, three anions).

Abstract
A high-luminescent, blue-light excitable europium(III) coordination complex, [Eu(µ2-OC2H5)(btfa)(NO3)(phen)]2phen (1) {btfa = benzoyl trifluoroacetone, phen = 1,10-phenantroline}, has been synthesized and investigated. The complex was characterized by infrared (IR) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The PL emission spectra of powder samples registered in a range of 10.7-300 K exhibit characteristic metal-centered luminescence bands, assigned to internal radiative transitions of the Eu3+ ion, 5D1→7Fj and 5D0→7Fj (j = 0-4). The high-resolution spectrum of the transition 5D0→7F0 shows that it consists of two narrow components, separated by 0.96 meV, which indicates the presence in the matrix of two different sites of the Eu3+ ion. The splitting pattern of 5D0→7Fj (j = 0-4) transitions indicates that europium ions are located in a low-symmetry environment. The absolute quantum yield and the sensitization efficiency were determined to be 49.2% and 89.3%, respectively. The complex can be excited with low-cost lasers at around 405 nm and is attractive for potential applications in optoelectronics and biochemistry.

Abstract
Heteroleptic homo dinuclear complexes [Sm(fod)3(μ-bpp)Sm(fod)3] and [Eu(fod)3(μ-bpp)Eu(fod)3] and their diamagnetic analogue [Lu(fod)3(μ-bpp)Lu(fod)3] (fod is the anion of 6,6,7,7,8,8,8- heptafluoro-2,2-dimethyl-3,5-octanedione (Hfod) and bpp is 2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine) are synthesized and thoroughly characterized. The lanthanum gave a 1:1 adduct of La(fod)3 and bpp with the molecular formula of [La(fod)3bpp]. The 1H NMR and 1H-1H COSY spectra of the complexes were used to assign the proton resonances. In the case of paramagnetic Sm3+ and Eu3+ complexes, the methine (of the fod moiety) and the bpp resonances are shifted in the opposite direction and the paramagnetic shifts are dipolar in nature, which decrease with increasing distance of the proton from the metal ion. The single-crystal X-ray analyses reveal that the complexes (Sm3+ and Eu3+) are dinuclear and crystallize in the triclinic P1 space group. Each metal in a given complex is eight coordinate by coordinating with six oxygen atoms of three fod moieties and two nitrogen atoms of the bpp. Of the two metal centers, in a given complex, one has a distorted square antiprism arrangement and the other acquires a distorted dodecahedron geometry. The Sparkle RM1 and PM7 optimized structures of the complexes are also presented and compared with the crystal structure. Theoretically observed bond distances are in excellent agreement with the experimental values, and the RMS deviations for the optimized structures are 2.878, 2.217, 2.564, and 2.675 Å. The photophysical properties of Sm3+ and Eu3+ complexes are investigated in different solvents, solid, and PMMA-doped thin hybrid films. The spectroscopic parameters (the Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters, radiative parameters, and intrinsic quantum yield) of each Eu3+ sites are calculated using the overlap polyhedra method. The theoretically obtained parameters are close to the experimental results. The lifetime of the excited state is 38.74 μs for Sm3+ and 713.62 μs for the Eu3+ complex in the solid state.

Abstract
Two new isomorphic and heterogeneous coordination polymers (CPs), namely {[RE (L) (H2O) 2] · (Hbipy) · H2O} n (RE = Yb(1), Y(2), Na2H2L = 4,5-dihydroxy-1,3-benzenedisulfonic acid disodium salt, bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine) have been synthesized by hydrothermal methods and structurally characterized by elemental analyses, power X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1 and 2 feature one-dimensional (1D) wavy ladder-like chain structures, which are further connected by hydrogen bonds from water molecules to result in two-dimensional (2D) layered structures. The 1H-protonated bipy molecules act as uncoordinated cations, leading to valences of zero in compounds 1 and 2. Compounds 1 and 2 emit luminescence at 382 nm and 372 nm in the ultraviolet regions, respectively. The luminescent emissions originate from the typical ligand-centered (n–π* and π–π*) transitions. In addition, compound 1 has characteristic near-infrared emission of ytterbium ion at 964 nm.

Abstract
The lanthanide binding ability of a macrocyclic ligand H6L2 comprising two bis(iminomethyl)phenol and two calix[4]arene units has been studied. H6L2 is a ditopic ligand which provides dinuclear neutral complexes of composition [Ln2(L2)(MeOH)2] (Ln = La (1), Eu (2), Tb (3), and Yb (4)) in very good yield. X-ray crystal structure analyses for 2 and 3 show that (L2)6- accommodates two seven coordinated lanthanide ions in a distorted monocapped trigonal prismatic/octahedral coordination environment. UV-vis spectroscopic titrations performed with La3+, Eu3+, Tb3+ and Yb3+ ions in mixed MeOH/CH2Cl2 solution (I = 0.01 M NBu4PF6) reveal that a 2 : 1 (metal : ligand) stoichiometry is present in solution, with log K11 and K21 values ranging from 5.25 to 6.64. The ratio α = K11/K21 of the stepwise formation constants for the mononuclear (L2 + M = ML2, log K11) and the dinuclear complexes (ML2 + M = M2L2, log K21) was found to be invariably smaller than unity indicating that the binding of the first Ln3+ ion augments the binding of the second Ln3+ ion. The present complexes are less luminescent than other seven-coordinated Eu and Tb complexes, which can be traced to vibrational relaxation of excited EuIII and TbIII states by the coligated MeOH and H2O molecules and/or low-lying ligand-to-metal charge-transfer (LMCT) states.

Abstract
The synthesis of the new lanthanide complexes [HNEt3][Dy2(HL1)(L1)] (5), and [Ln2(L2)2] (Ln = TbIII (7), DyIII (8)) supported by the hybrid Schiff-base/calix[4]arene ligands H4L1 (25-[2-((2-methylphenol)imino)ethoxy]-26,27,28-trihydroxy-calix[4]arene) and H3L2 (25-[2-((2-methylpyridine)imino)ethoxy]-26,27,28-trihydroxy-calix[4]arene) are reported. Spectroscopic data (for 5) and X-ray crystallographic analysis (for 7·4MeCN, 8·4MeCN) reveal the presence of dimeric structures, featuring doubly-bridged NO4Ln(μ-O)2LnO4N (5) or N2O3Ln(μ-O)2LnO3N2 cores (7, 8) with seven-coordinated Ln3+ ions. The magnetic properties of polycrystalline samples of 5, 7 and 8 were studied by variable temperature dc and ac magnetic susceptibility measurements. The χ''(T) vs. T plots show no maxima in zero field, but the maxima can be detected under a 3 kOe dc field. The relaxation times τ obey the Arrhenius law above 5 K. Anisotropy barriers of ∼18 cm-1 (26 K) for 5 and ∼23 cm-1 (33 K) for 8 were determined.
