Abstract
On-surface molecular self-assembly presents an important approach to the development of low-dimensional functional nanostructures and nanomaterials. Traditional strategies primarily exploit hydrogen bonding or metal coordination, yet the potential of chalcogen bonding (ChB) for on-surface self-assemblies remains underexplored. Here, we explore fabricating molecular networks via tellurium (Te)-directed chalcogen-organic interactions. Employing carbonitrile molecules as molecular building blocks, we have achieved extended 2D networks exhibiting a 4-fold binding motif on Au(111), marking a notable difference from the conventional coordinative interaction involving transition metals. Our findings, supported by density functional theory (DFT) and scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS), show that the Te-carbonitrile interaction exhibits lower stability compared to the metal-organic coordination, and the construction of the Te-directed molecular networks does not alter the electronic properties of the involved molecules. Introducing chalcogen-directed interactions may expand the spectrum of strategies in supramolecular assembly, contributing to the design of advanced molecular architectures for nanotechnological applications.

Abstract
Chalcogen bonding interactions (ChBIs) have been widely employed to create ordered noncovalent assemblies in solids and liquids. Yet, their ability to engineer molecular self-assembly on surfaces has not been demonstrated. Here, we report the first demonstration of on-surface molecular recognition solely governed by ChBIs. Scanning tunneling microscopy and ab initio calculations reveal that a pyrenyl derivative can undergo noncovalent chiral dimerization on the Au(111) surface through double Ch···N interactions involving Te- or Se-containing chalcogenazolo pyridine motifs. In contrast, reference chalcogenazole counterparts lacking the pyridyl moiety fail to form regular self-assemblies on Au, resulting in disordered assemblies.

Abstract
This work describes the design and synthesis of a π-conjugated telluro[3,2-β][1]-tellurophene-based synthon that, embodying pyridyl and haloaryl chalcogen-bonding acceptors, self-assembles into nanoribbons through chalcogen bonds. The ribbons π-stack in a multi-layered architecture both in single crystals and thin films. Theoretical studies of the electronic states of chalcogen-bonded material showed the presence of a local charge density between Te and N atoms. OTFT-based charge transport measurements showed hole-transport properties for this material. Its integration as a p-type semiconductor in multi-layered CuI -based light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) led to a 10-fold increase in stability (38 h vs. 3 h) compared to single-layered devices. Finally, using the reference tellurotellurophene congener bearing a C-H group instead of the pyridyl N atom, a herringbone solid-state assembly is formed without charge transport features, resulting in LECs with poor stabilities (<1 h).

Abstract
Functional materials composed of Boron-chalcogenophene conjugates have emerged as promising ensemble featuring commendable optoelectronic properties. This review describes the categories, synthetic routes and optoelectronic applications of a range of boron-chalcogenophene conjugates. Conjugation and linking of different types of tri- and tetra-coordinated boron moieties with chalcogenophenes have remained an important strategy for constructing a range of functional materials. Synthetic protocols have been devised to efficiently prepare such chemically robust conjugates, often exhibiting a myriad of photophysical properties, redox capabilities and also solid-state behaviors. Tin-boron and silicon-boron exchange protocols have been efficiently adapted to access these boron-chalcogenophenes. Few other commonly used methods namely, hydroboration of alkynes as well as electrophilic borylations are also mentioned. The chemical and electronic properties of such boron-chalcogenophene conjugates are directly influenced by the strong Lewis acid character of trivalent boranes which can further alter the intra- and inter- molecular Lewis acid-base interactions. Apart from the synthetic protocols, recent advances in the application of these boron-chalcogenophene conjugates towards analyte sensing, organic electronics, molecular switches and several other aspects will be discussed in this review.

Abstract
The structure of the 5,6-dichloro-2,1,3-benzoselenadiazole homodimer, obtained by adding the ligand, 4,5-dichloro-o-phenylenediamine, to the methanolic solution of SeCl4, was determined by X-ray crystallography, augmented by Fourier transform infrared, Raman, and NMR spectroscopy. The binding motif involves a pair of Se···N chalcogen bonds, with a supplementary N···N pnicogen bond. Quantum calculations provide assessments of the strengths of the individual interactions as well as their contributing factors. All together, these three bonds compose a total interaction energy between 5.4 and 16.8 kcal/mol, with the larger chalcogen atom associated with the strongest interactions. Replacement of the Se atoms by S and Te analogues allows analysis of the dependence of these forces on the nature of the chalcogen atom. Calculations also measure the importance to the binding of the presence of a second N atom on each diazole unit as well as the substituted phenyl ring to which it is fused.

Abstract
In this work, we design and synthesize supramolecular 2,5-substituted chalcogenazolo[5,4-β]pyridine (CGP) synthons arranging in supramolecular ribbons at the solid state. A careful choice of the combination of substituents at the 2- and 5-positions on the CGP scaffold is outlined to accomplish supramolecular materials by means of multiple hybrid interactions, comprising both chalcogen and hydrogen bonds. Depending on the steric and electronic properties of the substituents, different solid-state arrangements have been achieved. Among the different moieties on the 5-position, an oxazole unit has been incorporated on the Se- and Te-congeners by Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction and a supramolecular ribbon-like organization was consistently obtained at the solid state.
