Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the use of zwitterionic microparticles as new and efficient macromolecular supports for the sorption of an antibiotic (doxycycline hydrochloride, DCH) from aqueous solution. The effect of relevant process parameters of sorption, like dosage of microparticles, pH value, contact time, the initial concentration of drug and temperature, was evaluated to obtain the optimal experimental conditions. The sorption kinetics were investigated using Lagergren, Ho, Elovich and Weber-Morris models, respectively. The sorption efficiency was characterized by applying the Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm models. The calculated thermodynamic parameters (ΔH, ΔS and ΔG) show that the sorption of doxycycline hydrochloride onto zwitterionic microparticles is endothermic, spontaneous and favorable at higher temperatures. The maximum identified sorption capacity value is 157.860 mg/g at 308 K. The Higuchi, Korsmeyer-Peppas, Baker-Lonsdale and Kopcha models are used to describe the release studies. In vitro release studies show that the release mechanism of doxycycline hydrochloride from zwitterionic microparticles is predominantly anomalous or non-Fickian diffusion. This study could provide the opportunity to expand the use of these new zwitterionic structures in medicine and water purification.

Abstract
In this work, photoactive nanocomposites of ZnO/SiO2 porous heterostructures (PCHs) were prepared from montmorillonite clay. The effects of preparation methods and Zn content on the physicochemical features and photocatalytic properties were investigated. Briefly, a comparison of the use of hydrothermal and microwave-assisted methods was done. The Zn content was varied between 5 and 15 wt% and the characteristics of the nanomaterials were also examined. The physical and chemical properties of the materials were characterized using X-ray diffraction, diffuse-reflectance UV-Vis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and gas sorption analyses. The morphology of the synthesized materials was characterized through scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The photocatalytic performance of the prepared materials was quantified through the photocatalytic degradation of methyl violet (MV) under irradiation with UV and visible light. It was found that PCHs exhibit greatly improved physicochemical characteristics as photocatalysts, resulting in boosting photocatalytic activity for the degradation of MV. It was found that varied synthesis methods and Zn content strongly affected the specific surface area, pore distribution, and band gap energy of PCHs. In addition, the band gap energy was found to govern the photoactivity. Additionally, the surface parameters of the PCHs were found to contribute to the degradation mechanism. It was found that the prepared PCHs demonstrated excellent photocatalytic activity and reusability, as seen in the high degradation efficiency attained at high concentrations. No significant changes in activity were seen until five cycles of photodegradation were done.

Abstract
An efficient, environment-friendly and economical catalyst to control contaminants of environment is an enduring interest in recent years. In this study, a new composite, DyxMnFe2-xO4nanoparticles decorated over mesoporous silica was synthesized and utilized for removal of organic pollutant. Highly crystalline nature of DyxMnFe2-xO4 nanoparticles and amorphous nature of material was confirmed by XRD (X-ray diffraction) technique. Infrared spectra of fabricated material before and after adsorption of dye molecules evidenced the successful adsorption of dye molecules by fabricated adsorbent. From field emission scanning electron microscopic (FESEM) images of Dy3+ substituted MnFe2O4 composite with mesoporous silica, it was clearly observed that ferrite particles of size 20-30 nm were decorated on the surface of mesoporous silica particles and distributed well over spherical silica balls homogeneously. Its magnificent mesoporous nature was revealed from BET (nitrogen adsorption-desorption measurements) analysis. Surface area, pore volume and average pore size was found 387.95 m2/g, 0.390 cm3/g and 4.02 nm respectively. Tri-modal pore size distribution showed its effective utilization in adsorption. The abundant (SiOH) hydroxyl groups of mesoporous silica, the broad diffraction hump of silica depicted its superior loading capacity of target molecular specie inside its porous network. From band gap analysis, a red shift of 2.43 eV exhibited semiconductor photocatalysis of DyxMnFe2-xO4 nanoparticles. Degradation efficiency of bare MnFe2O4, DyxMnFe2-xO4 and mesoporous silica-based composite was tested using crystal violet dye. Its explored adsorption-photocatalysis synergy, degradation mechanism, kinetic investigation, easily recovery and remarkable recycling ability suggested that the new fabricated composite is best for environmental remediation.

Quantum-Sized Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles Synthesised within Mesoporous Silica (SBA-11) by Humid Thermal Decomposition of Zinc Acetate. CRYSTALS 2020. Abstract
A modified facile method is presented to synthesise quantum-sized zinc oxide nanoparticles within the pores of a mesoporous silica host (SBA-11). This method eliminates the 3 h alcohol reflux and the basic solution reaction steps of zinc acetate. The mesoporous structure and the ZnO nanoparticles were analysed by X-ray diffractometry, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, nitrogen sorption analysis and UV–VIS spectroscopy. These tests confirm the synthesis of ~1 nm sized ZnO within the pores of SBA-11 and that the porous structure remained intact after ZnO synthesis.
