Abstract
The reaction of butyryl chloride with ethynylbenzene in the presence of AlCl3 afforded a mixture of the Z/E-isomers of 1-chloro-2-phenylhex-1-en-3-one. 1,2-Diphenylethyne under these conditions gave a novel polycarbocycle core, 6aH-benzo[a]fluorene. The chemical structure of 11-chloro-5,6-diphenyl-6a-propyl-6aH-benzo[a]fluorene was established by means of IE-MS, 1 H, 13 C NMR, COSY, HSQC, HMBC, and 2D INADEQUATE technique.

Abstract
For decades, N2 activation and functionalization have required the use of transition metal complexes. Thus, it is one of the most challenging projects to activate the abundant dinitrogen through metal-free systems under mild conditions. Here, we demonstrate a proof-of-concept study on the catalytic hydrogenation of dinitrogen (with activation energy as low as 15.3 kcal mol-1 ) initiated by a dual Lewis acid (DLA) via density functional theory (DFT) calculations. In addition, such a DLA could be also used to activate a series of small molecules including carbon dioxide, formaldehyde, N-ethylenemethylamine, and acetonitrile. It is found that aromaticity plays an important role in stabilizing intermediates and products. Our findings provide an alternative approach to N2 activation and functionalization, highlighting a great potential of DLA for small molecule activation.

Abstract
An efficient method for the Lewis acid promotion of the synthesis 9-phosphoryl fluorenes has been reported. This method focuses on ketone phosphonylation to form a C-P bond and a C-C bond between diphenylmethanone and H-phosphinate esters, H-phosphites, and H-phosphine oxides via phospha-aldol elimination, in which a series of 9-phosphoryl fluorene derivatives were selectively obtained in moderate to excellent yields.

Abstract
A [2+2+1]-NO-segment-incorporating heteroannulative cascade is described. This versatile method, particularly using modular cyanoarylated ketimine substrates, allows efficient access to structurally diversified quinolines embedded with an oxadiazole core. This metal-free protocol proceeds smoothly at 30 °C, offers easy manipulation of substituents on the quinoline moiety, and tolerates a spectrum of functional groups. Density functional theory calculation revealed that the cyano moiety is crucial to facilitate the early cyclization step in this heteroannulation process and is different from the previously established late cyclization mechanistic interpretation.

Abstract
Existing synthetic routes for accessing dibenzofuran core have intrinsic regioselectivity, limiting the substitution patterns available in heteropolycyclic arene products. Here we report a double 1,4-conjugate addition/intramolecular annulation cascade reaction between propargylamines and two equivalents of imidazolium methylides that allows efficient access of structurally versatile dibenzofurans. This transition metal-free protocol proceeds smoothly under bench-top air atmosphere and offers easy manipulation of substituents on the dibenzofuran core, and also provides good-to-excellent product yields with good functional group tolerance, particularly the -Br and -Cl groups which are often incompatible with existing metal-catalyzed C-C and/or C-O bond ring-forming processes. It is worth noting that ladder-type π-systems with all-arene quarternary carbon structure can be straightforwardly generated upon simple late-stage functionalization.

Abstract
A highly enantioselective Pd/Xiang-Phos-catalyzed carbohetero-functionalization of norbornene is described, giving a direct access to various chiral norbornane-fused dihydrofurans and dihydro-pyrroles. This synthetic methodology provides the first example of asymmetric carboetherification of norbornene, and also tolerates norbornadiene well.
