Gas Evolution in Water Electrolysis

Gas bubbles generated by the hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction during water electrolysis influence the energy conversion efficiency of hydrogen production. Here, we survey what is known about the interaction of gas bubbles and electrode surfaces and the influence of gas evolution on practicable devices used for water electrolysis. We outline the physical processes occurring during the life cycle of a bubble, summarize techniques used to characterize gas evolution phenomena in situ and in practical device environments, and discuss ways that electrodes can be tailored to facilitate gas removal at high current densities. Lastly, we review efforts to model the behavior of individual gas bubbles and multiphase flows produced at gas-evolving electrodes. We conclude our review with a short summary of outstanding questions that could be answered by future efforts to characterize gas evolution in electrochemical device environments or by improved simulations of multiphase flows.

This review specifically examines the utilization of oxygen NBsplatforms as a theranostic weapon in the field of oncology. We thoroughly examine the key factors that impact the effectiveness of NBs preparations and the consequences of these treatment methods. This review extensively examines recent advancements in composition schemes, advanced developments in pre-clinical phases, and other groundbreaking inventions in the area of NBs. Moreover, this review offers a thorough examination of the optimistic future possibilities, addressing prospective methods for improvement and incorporation into widely accepted therapeutic practices. As we explore the ever-changing field of cancer theranostics, the incorporation of oxygen NBs appears as a promising development, providing new opportunities for precision medicine and marking a revolutionary age in cancer research and therapy.

Nanobubble technologies: Applications in therapy from molecular to cellular level

Nanobubbles are gaseous entities suspended in bulk liquids that have widespread beneficial usage in many industries. Nanobubbles are already proving to be versatile in furthering the effectiveness of disease treatment on cellular and molecular levels. They are functionalized with biocompatible and stealth surfaces to aid in the delivery of drugs. At the same time, nanobubbles serve as imaging agents due to the echogenic properties of the gas core, which can also be utilized for controlled and targeted delivery. This review provides an overview of the biomedical applications of nanobubbles, covering their preparation and characterization methods, discussing where the research is currently focused, and how they will help shape the future of biomedicine.

Interaction Mechanisms and Application of Ozone Micro/Nanobubbles and Nanoparticles: A Review and Perspective

Ozone micro/nanobubbles with catalytic processes are widely used in the treatment of refractory organic wastewater. Micro/nanobubble technology overcomes the limitations of ozone mass transfer and ozone utilization in the application of ozone oxidation, and effectively improves the oxidation efficiency of ozone. The presence of micro/nanobubbles keeps the catalyst particles in a dynamic discrete state, which effectively increases the contact frequency between the catalyst and refractory organic matter and greatly improves the mineralization efficiency of refractory organic matter. This paper expounds on the characteristics and advantages of micro/nanobubble technology and summarizes the synergistic mechanism of microbubble nanoparticles and the mechanism of catalyst ozone micro/nanobubble systems in the treatment of refractory organics. An interaction mechanism of nanoparticles and ozone microbubbles is suggested, and the proposed theories on ozone microbubble systems are discussed with suggestions for future studies on systems of nanoparticles and ozone microbubbles.

Harnessing bubble behaviors for developing new analytical strategies

Gas bubbles are easily accessible and offer many unique characteristic properties of a gas/liquid two-phase system for developing new analytical methods. In this minireview, we discuss the newly developed analytical strategies that harness the behaviors of bubbles. Recent advancements include the utilization of the gas/liquid interfacial activity of bubbles for detection and preconcentration of surface-active compounds; the employment of the gas phase properties of bubbles for acoustic imaging and detection, microfluidic analysis, electrochemical sensing, and emission spectroscopy; and the application of the mass transport behaviors at the gas/liquid interface in gas sensing, biosensing, and nanofluidics. These studies have demonstrated the versatility of gas bubbles as a platform for developing new analytical strategies.

Recognition of Bimolecular Logic Operation Pattern Based on a Solid-State Nanopore

Nanopores have a unique advantage for detecting biomolecules in a label-free fashion, such as DNA that can be synthesized into specific structures to perform computations. This method has been considered for the detection of diseased molecules. Here, we propose a novel marker molecule detection method based on DNA logic gate by deciphering a variable DNA tetrahedron structure using a nanopore. We designed two types of probes containing a tetrahedron and a single-strand DNA tail which paired with different parts of the target molecule. In the presence of the target, the two probes formed a double tetrahedron structure. As translocation of the single and the double tetrahedron structures under bias voltage produced different blockage signals, the events could be assigned into four different operations, i.e., (0, 0), (0, 1), (1, 0), (1, 1), according to the predefined structure by logic gate. The pattern signal produced by the AND operation is obviously different from the signal of the other three operations. This pattern recognition method has been differentiated from simple detection methods based on DNA self-assembly and nanopore technologies.
