Abstract
Force-related discoloration materials are highly valuable because of their characteristics of visualization, easy operation, and environment friendliness. Most force-related discoloration materials focus on polymers and depend on bond scission, which leads to insensitivity and unrecoverable. Small-molecule systems based on well-defined molecular structures and simple composition with high sensitivity would exhibit considerable mechanochromic potential. However, to date, researches about force-related discoloration materials based on small molecule solution remain limited and are rarely reported. In this study, we developed a repeatable and instantaneous discoloration small molecule solution system by simple one-pot synthesis method. It exhibited an instantaneous chromic change from yellowish to dark green under shaking and reverting back to yellow within 1 minute after removal of the shaking. Experimental results confirmed that the discoloration mechanism is attributed to the oscillation accelerating the production of unstable ortho-OH phenoxyl radical. The newly developed shaking-induced discoloration small molecule system (SDSMS) promises in field of mechanical force sensing and optical encryption.

Dualistic Fluorescence as Well as Portable Smartphone-Assisted RGB-Relied Sensing Assay for the Ultra-Sensitive Determination of Pendimethalin in Food and Water Samples by AIEE Active Organic Probes. Abstract
Herein, a peculiar fluorometric as well as smartphone-assisted RGB-relied sensing assay is introduced for determining pendimethalin (PDM) herbicide contents (in parts per trillion level) based on the anthracene-incorporated pyrimidinone/thione probes (S1 to S4). These compounds offered a unique and impressive aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) behavior by aggregation in H2O-dimethylformamide medium. Furthermore, these AIEE active compounds were found to display superior selectivity and extraordinary sensitivity for PDM detection via fluorescence quenching response. The extent of quenching degree was found to be linearly varied with the PDM concentration ranging from 0 to 20 nM, with a lower limit of detection of 367.8 pM (103.4 ppt) by S3 nanoaggregates. The detailed investigation revealed that such a high sensitivity of the designed sensor toward PDM is attributable to the existence of dual "photoinduced charge transfer and Förster resonance energy transfer process mechanisms". The Stern-Volmer plots, Job's plot, Benesi-Hildebrand plot, and 1H NMR titrations as well indicated the existence of substantial interactions between the sensor and PDM. The conducted selectivity tests provided distinguishable selectivity for PDM detection over various other insecticides/pesticides as well as other structural nitro analogues. Additionally, the presented sensing assay was also applied to quantify the PDM residues in spiked food (vegetables, fruits, and grains) and water samples. In addition, the sensor-coated fluorescent paper test strips were also fabricated for on-site detection of PDM. The applicability of smartphone-relied RGB analysis significantly streamlined the operation process, speeds up the detection procedure, and also offered a novel methodology for real-time analysis of PDM in real samples.

Abstract
Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed to investigate electronic and structural properties of barbituric acid (BA) and sixtheen of its derivatives to show impacts of structural functionalization on the features of parent BA. The models were optimized and the minimum energy structures were confirmed by frequency calculations. Molecular and atomic descriptors were evaluated for the optimized models, in which the results of formation binding strength and molecular orbital features indicated significance of such functionalization processes on the observed properties. The highest occupied and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals (HOMO and LUMO) and their related parameters all indicated magnitudes of changes from one molecule to another one. Furthermore, atomic scale quadrupole coupling constants (Cq) were evaluated for the nitrogen and oxygen atoms of BA compounds showing significance of structural functionalization impacts on the atomic properties of parent BA. As a consequence, such structural analyses of BA compounds could show their characteristic features for further developments especially for their efficient pharmaceutical applications.
