Abstract
The synthesis of complex alkanes by the tetrafunctionalization of alkynes is limited and challenging. Herein, an unprecedented efficient geminal diazidation and dibromination of terminal alkynes is developed, which provides novel access to structurally diverse organic azides. The approach has exclusive chemo- and regioselectivity and features mild reaction conditions, good tolerance of various functional groups, and more crucially, no metal involved in the reaction, thereby benefiting the late-stage decoration of medicinal molecules. A mechanistic study showed that the current geminal diazidation and dibromination proceeds via a radical pathway.

Abstract
An oxidative cascade iodocyclization of 1,7- or 1,8-dienes has been realized under mild conditions. By employing I2 as an iodine source, this protocol provides a concise and efficient approach to a great deal of biologically significant iodinated benzo[b]azepine and benzo[b]azocine derivatives in moderate to good yields. The gram-scale synthesis and further transformation of products render the approach practical and attractive. Radical trapping and deuterium-labeling experiments help to understand the mechanism.

Abstract
o-Alkynylaryl 2-cyanoacrylates have been disclosed as a new synthon for the regioselective synthesis of isoquinolones and naphthyridinones under mild reaction conditions. The attractive feature of this investigation includes carbon-carbon double bond cleavage under metal-free conditions by an intramolecular SN2 reaction. Incorporating two distinct C-I bonds in the resulting products provides facile opportunity for structural elaboration. The viability of the present protocol was unveiled by postfunctionalization with drug analogues and gram-scale synthesis.

Abstract
An iodine-mediated radical cyclization of 1,6-enynones with sulphonyl hydrazides using tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as the oxidant has been developed for the synthesis of iodo-sulphonylated-succinimide derivatives. The notable advantages of the developed method are metal-free conditions, broad functional group tolerance, column chromatography-free purification, high stereoselectivity (E isomer), shorter reaction times, and the cascade construction of three new bonds (C-S, C-I, and C-C). The synthetic application of the iodo-functionality has been extended to the Heck coupling reaction with acrylonitrile and to the Suzuki coupling reaction with benzene boronic acid.

Abstract
We report the visible-light-induced Ph3P/LiI-promoted intermolecular cascade trifluoromethyl radical addition/5-exo-dig cyclization/iodination of 1,6-enynes with Togni's reagent using LiI as the iodine source without the need of the transition metal, oxidant, and base. This reaction promises to be a useful method for the preparation of trifluoromethyl-substituted and vinyl C-I bond-containing pyrrolidines and benzofuran products with good regioselectivity and functional-group tolerance under ambient conditions.

Abstract
In this study, an efficient method for the synthesis of sulfur-substituted 4-enyl-2-pyrrolidones was successfully developed through AIBN-promoted highly selective 5-exo-dig radical cascade cyclization of 1,6-enynes with sulfur sources with the aid of theoretical and computational chemistry. This protocol enables the first practical and green synthesis of an array of 4-enyl-2-pyrrolidones in moderate-to-good yields with broad substrate scopes and high regioselectivities (>20:1). Moreover, excellent stereoselectivities have also been achieved (up to >20:1, Z/E). Most interestingly, when the sulfur source is electron-rich thiophenol, reverse stereoselectivities were discovered. In addition, the control experiments indicate that the cascade cyclization is realized by radical reactions, and the detailed reaction mechanism and regioselectivities have also been explained by theoretical studies.

Abstract
A metal- and oxidant-free route for affording azaspiro[4.5]deca-6,9-diene-3,8-dione via photomediated iodinated spirocyclization of N-(4-methoxybenzyl) propiolamide has been developed. The reaction underwent a radical addition/ipso-cyclization/dearomatization process at room temperature and successfully constructed C-C and C-I bonds. This green and convenient approach could be generally expanded to produce a range of iodinated spirocyclization products in moderate to good yields.

Abstract
The generation of azide radical (N3˙) occurs from its precursors primarily via a single electron transfer (SET) process or homolytic cleavage by chemical methods or advanced photoredox/electrochemical methods. This in situ generated transient open-shell species has unique characteristic features that set its reactivity. In the past, the azide radical was widely used for various studies in radiation chemistry as a 1e- oxidant of biologically important molecules, but now it is being exploited for synthetic applications based on its addition and intermolecular hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) abilities. Due to the significant role of nitrogen-containing molecules in synthesis, drug discovery, biological, and material sciences, the direct addition onto unsaturated bonds for the simultaneous construction of C-N bond with other (C-X) bonds are indeed worth highlighting. Moreover, the ability to generate O- or C-centered radicals by N3˙ via electron transfer (ET) and intermolecular HAT processes is also well documented. The purpose of controlling the reactivity of this short-lived intermediate in organic transformations drives us to survey: (i) the history of azide radical and its structural properties (thermodynamic, spectroscopic, etc.), (ii) chemical reactivities and kinetics, (iii) methods to produce N3˙ from various precursors, (iv) several significant azide radical-mediated transformations in the field of functionalization with unsaturated bonds, C-H functionalization via HAT, tandem, and multicomponent reaction with a critical analysis of underlying mechanistic approaches and outcomes, (v) concept of taming the reactivity of azide radicals for potential opportunities, in this review.

Abstract
Here we develop a novel visible-light-driven three-component cyclization by trapping an 1,3-vinylimine ion intermediate for the direct synthesis of pyrimido[1,2-b]indazole derivatives from bromodifluoroacetic acid derivatives, enaminones, and 3-aminoindazoles under mild conditions. Notably, the robust methodology provides a valuable opportunity for the introduction of aliphatic substituents and enables good compatibility of complex bioactive molecules. Furthermore, this is the first example of photoinduced multicomponent reaction by employing bromodifluoroacetic acid derivatives as a C1-synthon.

Abstract
A visible-light-promoted aerobic hydroxyazidation of indole derivatives with TMSN3 is described. The reaction proceeded under photocatalyst-free conditions to furnish trans-2-azidoindolin-3-ols with high regioselectivity and stereoselectivity. The protocol is operationally simple, and the starting materials (e.g., 1-(pyrimidin-2-yl) indoles, azidotrimethylsilane, and air) are readily available. The proposed mechanism in which substrates act as photocatalysts upon excitation using blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) was supported by experimental studies.

Abstract
Electrochemical sulfonylation/cyclization of 2-alkynylthioanisoles with sodium sulfinates was developed under catalyst-, external oxidant- and metal-free conditions. The electrosynthesis provides sustainable and efficient access to 3-sulfonated benzothiophenes with good substrate scope and functional group tolerance. This cascade radical process has been triggered through a sulfonyl radical addition to alkynes using sodium sulfinates under electrochemical conditions.
