Abstract
Currently, purification step in the recombinant protein manufacture is still a great challenge and its cost far outweighs those of the upstream process. In this study, a functionalized cellulose-based monolith was constructed as an efficient affinity adsorbent for one-step purification of recombinant proteins. Firstly, the fundamental cellulose monolith (CE monolith) was fabricated based on thermally induced phase separation, followed by being modified with nitrilotriacetic acid anhydride through esterification to give NCE monolith. After chelating with Ni2+, the affinity adsorbent NCE-Ni2+ monolith was obtained, which was demonstrated to possess a hierarchically porous morphology with a relatively high surface area, porosity and compressive strength. The adsorption behavior of NCE-Ni2+ monolith towards β2-microglobulin with 6 N-terminus His-tag (His-β2M) was evaluated through batch and fixed-bed column experiments. The results revealed that NCE-Ni2+ monolith exhibited a relatively fast His-β2M adsorption rate with a maximum adsorption capacity of 329.2 mg/g. The fixed-bed column adsorption implied that NCE-Ni2+ monolith showed high efficiency for His-β2M adsorption. Finally, NCE-Ni2+ monolith was demonstrated to have an excellent His-β2M purification ability from E. coli lysate with exceptional reusability. Therefore, the resultant NCE-Ni2+ monolith had large potential to be used as an efficient adsorbent for recombinant protein purification in practical applications.

Abstract
Long-term intake of animal-derived foods with excessive fluoroquinolones (FQs) will cause damage to human health, so it is critical to establish a feasible approach for sensitive and rapid monitoring of FQs residues. In this study, a new cyclodextrin modified magnetic metal-organic frameworks (Fe3O4@UiO-66-CD) was successfully synthesized by amidation reaction and applied to magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) for FQs analysis. The adsorption behavior of Fe3O4@UiO-66-CD was consistent with the pseudo-second-order kinetics and Freundlich isothermal adsorption model, which indicated that the designed material had various interactions on FQs, such as host-guest interaction and π-π interaction. The parameters of MSPE were optimized and the determination method of norfloxacin, enrofloxacin, lomefloxacin and gatifloxacin was established by using MSPE combined with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) and fluorescence detector (FLD). The method validation results displayed that the detection limits were 0.02-0.09 ng/mL, and the RSDs of intra-day and inter-day precision were less than 4.1 and 6.4 %, respectively. In the target FQs analysis of real honey and milk samples, the recoveries at different fortified concentrations were in the ranges of 88.4 % to 108.6 % with RSD ≤ 5.7 %. The results showed that the proposed method was sensitive, accurate and reliable for the determination of trace FQs in animal-derived foods.

Abstract
Biopolymer-derived hydrogels with low-cost and sustainable features have been considered as fascinating supported materials for metal nanoparticles. Cellulose, as the most abundant biopolymer, is a renewable raw material to prepare biopolymer-derived hydrogels for catalysis. Here, a cellulose-based hydrogel is designed to load bimetallic (AuAg, AuPd and AgPd) nanoparticles. 4-Nitrophenol reduction and Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions are selected to evaluate and compare the catalytic performance of the resulting bimetallic nanoparticle-loaded cellulose-based composite hydrogels. The bimetallic nanocomposite hydrogels are easy to be recycled over 10 times during the catalytic experiments and possess good applicability and generality for various substrates. The catalytic activity of bimetallic nanocomposite hydrogels was compared with recent literatures. In addition, the possible catalytic mechanism is also proposed. This work is expected to give a new insight for designing and preparing bimetallic nanoparticle-based cellulose hydrogels and proves its applicability and prospect in the catalytic field.

Abstract
We developed a mechano-responsive hydrogel that is driven by the dissociation of a host-guest complex. The hydrogel comprised a thermoresponsive linear polymer with adamantane as a guest molecule in its side chain and a nonthermoresponsive network structure with β-cyclodextrin as a host molecule. Immobilization of the thermoresponsive polymer in the hydrogel via host-guest interaction resulted in a partial restriction of its phase transition, even above its lower critical solution temperature (LCST). The hydrogel demonstrated a decrease in transmittance when mechanical stress was applied at a temperature above its LCST, indicating that the phase transition of the thermoresponsive polymer was induced by the dissociation of the host-guest complex under mechanical stress. Moreover, this mechano-responsive behavior was repeatable by cooling the hydrogel to redissolve the thermoresponsive polymer. The strategy of the mechano-responsive phase transition will be useful for various applications that demand the control of desired functions by applied stress.

Abstract
An innovative tactic to prepare porous organic polymer membranes was developed via interfacial azo-coupling polymerization. The membranes possess plentiful anchoring sites for loading Pd nanoparticles, and served as a membrane reactor, which exhibits high-performance catalytic reduction with a flux of 27.3 t m-2 day-1 and good long-term stability due to almost zero Pd leaching.
