Abstract
Smart chromic materials reacting to physicochemical stimuli are widely applied in optical switches, smart windows, and chemical sensors. Currently, most materials only respond to a single stimulus, but those that respond to multiple external stimuli are still in the minority. Herein, we report a novel porous zinc tungstate@metaloxoviologen framework [Zn3(Bcbpy)6(H2O)2]-[ZnW12O40]·6H2O (ZnW12@MV, H2BcbpyCl2 = 1,1'-bis(3-carboxybenzyl)-4,4'-bipyridinium dichloride), which shows multiple stimulus-responsive properties due to a combination of different functional motifs, namely, viologen electron acceptors, luminescent zinc-oxygen-clusters, porous cationic frameworks, and ZnW12O406- electron donors. Generally, the large-sized polyoxometalate (POM) anions serving as structure-directing agents can easily direct the formation of the oligomeric metaloxoviologen cations, mainly because POMs may break down some linkages leaving larger spaces for themselves. The large ZnW12O406- anions in ZnW12@MV are encapsulated into three-dimensional (3D) metaloxoviologen frameworks built up from the linkages of trinuclear zinc-oxygen clusters and Bcbpy viologens, which offer the first example of a 3D metaloxoviologen framework induced by large-sized POM anions. ZnW12@MV shows a reversible chromic response to X-ray/UV and electricity via different stimulus-induced electron transfers between electron-rich POM anions and electron-deficient metaloxoviologen frameworks, whereas the coloration changes are ascribed to the formation of radical and mixed-valence colored state ZnW12O406- species. The photochromic behavior is accompanied by photoluminescence quenching. The discriminative response to different-sized amines is attributed to the formation of viologen radicals through host-guest electron transfer. These results indicate that the multi-stimulus response ZnW12@MV can be applied in electrochromic devices, inkless erasable printing, and the detection of amines.

Abstract
It is still challenging to construct novel photochromic and photomagnetic materials in the field of molecular materials. Herein, the 2,4,6-tris-2-pyridyl-1,3,5-triazine (TPTz) molecule was found to display photochromic properties under room temperature light irradiation. Two mononuclear structures, [Ni(H2O)(TPTz)(C2O4)]·2H2O (1; C2O42- = oxalate) [Ni(H2O)(TPTz)(C2O4)]·0.5H2O (2), and one chain compound [Ni(TPTz)(H2-HEDP)]·2H2O (3; HEDP = hydroxyethylidene diphosphonate) were obtained by assembling TPTz with polydentate O-ligands (oxalate and phosphonate) and the paramagnetic Ni2+ ions. The electron-transfer (ET)-dominated photochromism was observable in 1 and 2 after light irradiation with the photogeneration of relatively stable radicals, and the resultant photochromism was demonstrated via UV-vis, photoluminescence, X-ray photoelectron spectra, electron paramagnetic resonance spectra, and molecular orbital calculations. Due to the denser stacking interactions between the adjacent organic molecules, 2 exhibited a faster photochromic rate than 1. Compared with 1 and 2, compound 3 did not show photochromic behavior, which was deciphered by the theoretical calculations for all of the compounds. Importantly, the magnetic couplings appeared between photogenerated radicals and paramagnetic Ni2+ ions, resulting in a scarcely photomagnetic phenomenon of 1 and 2 in the Ni-based electron transfer photochromic materials. This work enriches the available kind of ligands for the design of ET photochromic materials, putting forward a method to tune the electron transfer photochromic efficiency in the molecular materials.

Abstract
Three anionic metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) {[Zn3(BTEC)2(H2O)(4-BCBPY)]·(H2O)} n (1-3) (BTEC4- = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid anion, 4-BCBPY2+ = 1,1'-bis(4-cyanobenzyl)-4,4'-bipyridinium dication) were synthesized in the reaction of 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid with different metal salts such as ZnNO3, ZnCl2, and ZnSO4, under solvothermal conditions in the presence of 1,1'-bis(4-cyanobenzyl)-4,4'-bipyridinium chloride. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis shows that compounds 1, 2 and 3 have MOF structures based on binuclear metal building units, which are connected by two protonated BTEC4- ligands and three zinc ions, and the viologen cation 4-BCBPY2+ is located in the channel to achieve charge balance. Compounds 1, 2 and 3 have good photosensitivity, respond to sunlight, UV light and blue ray, and turn blue. The D-A distance and π-π stacking distance of the discolored samples (1P, 2P and 3P) changed. In addition, the three compounds showed visible color changes to ammonia vapor, rapidly changing from white to blue. At the same time, the three compounds exhibited fluorescence quenching to ammonia vapor and Cr2O7 2-. It is further proved that compounds 1, 2 and 3 are fluorescent sensors with a low detection limit (for Cr2O7 2-: 10-5 M) and high sensitivity for ammonia vapor and Cr2O7 2-. It was found that photochromic behavior, ammonia sensing properties can be tuned by the nature of metal salts.

Abstract
Photochromic materials coupled with photoswitchable luminescence functionalities are of particular interest due to their potential applications in switches and optical memory devices. However, the construction of such materials, especially those with two-color emission states, is still challenging. In this context, a rare Zn7 cluster-based host-guest MOF material, (bbmp)[Zn7(IPA)6(OH)4(H2O)2] (1) (H2IPA = isophthalic acid, bbmp·2I = 4,4'-([1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diyl)bis(1-methylpyridin-1-ium) diiodide), was prepared by encapsulating an organic cation into an anionic MOF produced from zinc cations and isophthalic acid ligands, which exhibits reversible naked detectable photochromic properties varying from yellow to green upon UV-Vis light irradiation. The photoactive guest bbmp2+ and the short O⋯N+ distances between the oxygen atoms of the carboxylate groups and the pyridine ring play a crucial role in the photochromism of this compound. More interestingly, the luminescence color of this cluster-based host-guest material can be reversibly switched from green to blue upon irradiation, exhibiting photoswitchable luminescence properties.

Abstract
Porous materials have been investigated as efficient photochromic platforms for detecting hazardous radiation, while the utilization of hydrogen bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) in this field has remained intact. Herein, two HOFs were synthesized through self-assembly of tetratopic viologen ligand and formic acid (PFC-25, PFC-26), as a new class of "all-organic" radiochromic smart material, opening a gate for HOFs in this field. PFC-26 is active upon both X-ray and UV irradiation, while PFC-25 is only active upon X-ray irradiation. The same building block yet different radiochromic behaviors of PFC-25 and PFC-26 allow us to gain a deep mechanistic understanding of the factors that control the detection specificity. Theoretical and experimental studies reveal that the degree of π-conjugation of viologen ligand is highly related to the threshold energy of triggering a charge transfer, therefore being a vital factor for the particularity of radiochromic materials. Thanks to its convenient processibility, nanoparticle size, and UV silence, PFC-25 can be further fabricated into a portable naked-eye sensor for X-ray detection, which shows obvious color change with the merits of high transmittance contrast, good sensitivity (reproducible dose threshold of 3.5 Gy), and excellent stability. The work exhibits the promising practical potentials of HOF materials in photochromic technology.
