Nickel-catalyzed hydrogenative coupling of nitriles and amines for general amine synthesis

Efficient and general methods for the synthesis of amines remain in high demand in the chemical industry. Among the many known processes, catalytic hydrogenation is a cost-effective and industrially proven reaction and currently used to produce a wide array of such compounds. We report a homogeneous nickel catalyst for hydrogenative cross coupling of a range of aromatic, heteroaromatic, and aliphatic nitriles with primary and secondary amines or ammonia. This general hydrogenation protocol is showcased by straightforward and highly selective synthesis of >230 functionalized and structurally diverse amines including pharmaceutically relevant and chiral products, as well as ¹⁵N-isotope labeling applications.

Reduction of imines with a reusable bimetallic PdCo-Fe3O4 catalyst at room temperature under atmospheric pressure of H2

Bimetallic nanocatalysts have been used for the development of organic reactions, owing to the synergistic effect between the transition metals. A new procedure for synthesizing amines by the reduction of imines with H₂ at atmospheric pressure and room temperature in the presence of PdCo–Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles is reported. The straightforward procedure, mild reaction conditions, high turnover number, and recyclability extend the scope of this reaction to practical applications.

A catalytic procedure that has mild reaction conditions, high turnover number, and the recyclability of the catalyst is presented, whereby the synthesis of amines through the reduction of imines employing PdCo–Fe₃O₄ under atmospheric pressure of H₂ is achieved.

Reductive Alkylation of Azides and Nitroarenes with Alcohols: A Selective Route to Mono- and Dialkylated Amines

Herein, we demonstrated an efficient protocol for reductive alkylation of azides/nitro compounds via a borrowing hydrogen (BH) method. By following this protocol, selective mono- and dialkylated amines were obtained under mild and solvent-free conditions. A series of control experiments and deuterium-labeling experiments were performed to understand this catalytic process. Mechanistic studies suggested that the Ir(III)-H was the active intermediate in this reaction. KIE study revealed that the breaking of the C-H bond of alcohol might be the rate-limiting step. Notably, this solvent-free strategy disclosed a high TON of around 5600. Based on kinetic studies and control experiments, a metal-ligand cooperative mechanism was proposed.

Oxidative N-Formylation of Secondary Amines Catalyzed by Reusable Bimetallic AuPd-Fe3O4 Nanoparticles

Bimetallic catalysts are gaining attention due to their characteristics of promoting reactivity and selectivity in catalyzed reactions. Herein, a new catalytic N-formylation of secondary amines using AuPd–Fe₃O₄ at room temperature is reported. Methanol was utilized as the formyl source and 1.0 atm of O₂ gas served as an external oxidant. The bimetallic catalyst, consisting of Au and Pd, makes the reaction more efficient than that using each metal separately. In addition, the catalyst can be effectively recycled owing to the Fe₃O₄ support.
