Abstract
Here, we present a user-friendly protocol that uses bench-stable NH3·BH3 (AB) as the hydrogen transfer agent for the reduction of both aromatic and aliphatic esters without an external catalyst and base, delivering a structurally diverse array of primary alcohols (80-98% yields). The broad functional-group tolerance (halogen, boronic ester, -NO2, -OH, etc.) under environmentally acceptable conditions implies high practical utility. Further, a tandem catalytic conversion of a plastic waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle to 1,4-benzenedimethanol including fatty esters into respective fatty alcohols was shown.

Abstract
Amine-borane dimers and oligomers with varied steric and electronic profiles were prepared via capping agent-controlled AA/BB polycondensations. They were used for transfer hydrogenations to aldehydes, ketones, imines as well as electron-poor alkene/alkyne moieties. The amine-borane Lewis-paired oligomers and the congested bis(amine-borane)s provided the highest yields. This was likely helped by facilitated dissociation (oligomers) or H-bond assistance. In the case of the oligomers, the second equivalent of H2 present was also engaged in the reaction. Solid-state NMR characterization provides evidence that the boron-containing materials obtained after transfer dehydrogenation are highly similar to those obtained from thermal dehydrogenation. The oligomers bridge the gap between simple amine-borane molecular reductants and the poly-amine-boranes and provide a full picture of the reactivity changes at the different scales.

Abstract
In this work, we report that Pt nanoparticles confined in hollow porous silica nanospheres (Pt@HPSNs) function as highly selective catalysts for the transfer hydrogenation of phenylacetylene to styrene with ammonia borane. Relative to the deep hydrogenation of phenylacetylene to ethylbenzene over the supported Pt/SiO2, Pt@HPSNs exhibit above 88% of styrene selectivity at nearly 100% of phenylacetylene conversions, and the high selectivity of Pt@HPSNs can be maintained even at high ammonia borane/phenylacetylene ratios and longer reaction time. The Pt 4f X-ray photoelectron spectrum of Pt@HPSNs shows a remarkable ∼1.5 eV shift to high binding energy, proving the nature of electron deficiency of such encapsulated Pt nanoparticles. Combined with extremely minor transfer hydrogenation of styrene to ethylbenzene when styrene as substrates, the enhanced styrene selectivity of Pt@HPSNs is ascribed to the electron deficiency of encapsulated Pt nanoparticles, which leads to the fast desorption of styrene and thus avoids deep hydrogenation.

Abstract
Mechanistic investigations into the functionalization of three fullerene cages, viz. C60, C70, and C36 through dehydrogenation of ammonia-borane (AB) have been conducted using Density Functional Theory (DFT). In this process of functionalization, different ring fusions, namely (6-6), (6-5) positions for C60 and C70, and an additional (5-5) for C36 fullerene have been investigated. The optimized geometries of all the complexes and transition states have been characterized using the M06-2X functional in conjunction with the 6-31G(d) basis set. The effect of Li+-encapsulation on the energetics and activation barriers of H2 attachment has also been examined. Although the process of functionalization of neutral fullerenes proceeds extensively through concerted pathways, a step-wise route has been observed for the encapsulated systems. NPA charge analysis and Wiberg bond index (WBI) have been used in order to detect the change in the nature of participating hydrogen atoms and validate the variation in the bond order of the C-C connectivity respectively upon hydrogenation. GCRD parameters have also been calculated to explicate the electronic properties of the hydrogenated products. The (6-6) hydrogenation is observed to be favoured thermodynamically and kinetically for both neutral and Li+-encapsulated C60 and C70, while (5-5) is found to be the most preferred site for C36 systems. Our theoretical exploration suggests that the covalent functionalization of the fullerene cages can be done successfully viaAB resulting in the stabilization of these systems. In short, the present work will provide a general idea about the detailed mechanism related to the functionalization of fullerene cages, which will further motivate researchers in fullerene chemistry.

Abstract
The new nanocomposites, Pd/C/ZrO2 , PdO/ZrO2, and Pd/PdO/ZrO2 , were prepared by thermal conversion of Pd@UiO-66-Zr-NH2 (MOF) in nitrogen or air atmosphere. The presence of Pd nanoparticles, uniformly distributed on the ZrO2 or C/ZrO2 matrix, was evidenced by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) methods. All pyrolysed composites retained the shape of the MOF template. They catalyze carbonylative Suzuki coupling under 1 atm CO with an efficiency significantly higher than the original Pd@UiO-66-Zr-NH2 . The most active PdO/ZrO2 composite, formed benzophenone with TOF up to 1600 h-1 , while by using Pd@UiO-66-Zr-NH2 , much lower TOF values, 51-95 h-1 , were achieved. After the reaction, PdO/ZrO2 was recovered with the same composition and catalytic activity. Very good results were also obtained in the transfer hydrogenation of benzophenones to alcohols with Pd/C/ZrO2 and PdO/ZrO2 catalysts under microwave irradiation.

Abstract
Single-atom (SA) catalysts have attracted broad attention due to their distinctive catalytic properties in diverse reactions. Increasing the unsaturated coordination sites of active centers is a valid and challenging approach to improve the performance of such catalysts. Herein, we report an oxide compounding strategy to decrease the N coordination number of a SA Cu catalyst by reducing the thickness of the N-doped carbon carrier with a lower density of N atoms. The SA Cu catalyst with a more unsaturated N coordination structure can achieve transfer hydrogenation of alkynes with good activity and selectivity, which is disabled over the common N coordinated SA Cu catalyst on pure CN. It is found that individual Cu centers coordinated by fewer N atoms can accelerate the hydrogen transfer from ammonia-borane and still leave proper adsorption sites for alkynes to realize the entire hydrogenation reaction. This work will open up new opportunities to modulate the unsaturated coordination structure of SA catalysts for creating better-performing heterogeneous catalysts.
