Abstract
Two new cyanido-bridged {FeIIMII} double chains were obtained by reacting cyanido anions [M(CN)4]2- with complex cations [FeII(tptz)]2+ (preformed in situ by mixing a hydrated tetrafluoroborate salt of iron(II) and a tptz ligand, tptz = 2,4,6-tri(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine) having the general formula [FeII(tptz)MII(CN)4]·2H2O·CH3CN, where M = Pd (1) or Pt (2). Additionally, two molecular complexes formulated as [FeII(tptz)2][MII(CN)4]·4.25H2O, where M = Pd (3) or Pt (4), were subsequently obtained from the same reaction, as secondary products. Single crystal X-ray analysis revealed that 1 and 2 are isostructural and crystallize in the P-1 triclinic space group. Their structure consists of a double-chain with a ladder-like topology, in which cyanido-based [M(CN)4]2- metalloligands coordinate, through three CN- ligands and three [FeII(tptz)]2+ complex cations. Compounds 3 and 4 are also isostructural and crystallize in the P1̄ triclinic space group, and the X-ray structural data show the formation of [FeII(tptz)2]2+ and [MII(CN)4]2- ionic units interconnected through H-bonds and π⋯π stacking supramolecular interactions. The static DC magnetic measurements recorded in the temperature range of 2-300 K showed that 1 and 2 exhibit incomplete spin transition on cooling, which is also confirmed by single crystal XRD analysis and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Compounds 3 and 4 are diamagnetic, most likely due to the encapsulation of Fe(II) in a tight pocket formed by two tptz ligands that preserve the low-spin state in the temperature range of 2-400 K.

Abstract
Two new spin crossover (SCO) Fe(III) compounds were prepared, their structures were analysed and their magnetic properties were investigated. An exhaustive analysis of the effects of halogen substitution and aromatic ring functionalisation on the magnetic properties of non-solvated Fe(III) perchlorate complexes has been performed. Through comparative analysis, different magnetic profiles were found for the compounds studied, namely F (1), Cl (2), H (3), Br (4a, 4b), and I (5). Using tools like Hirshfeld analysis, the study revealed patterns in octahedral distortions and deviations from the ideal octahedral geometry. The SCO phenomenon as the conducting wire in this study, emphasises the influence of intermolecular interactions on the low spin (LS) to high spin (HS) transitions in these halogen-substituted complexes. The prevalence of H⋯H contributions has been demonstrated, albeit being the weakest and an inverse strength relationship in H⋯X interactions ranging from F to I. The findings not only interpret the intricate balance between halogen substitution, functionalisation, and intermolecular interactions in modulating magnetic properties but also direct future works in designing similar molecular systems.

Abstract
Chemical composition is leading among the numerous factors that determine the spin transition properties of coordination compounds. Classic dicyanometallic bridges {M(CN)2}- are commonly used to build Hofmann-like spin-crossover frameworks, but some extended bridges are also synthetically available. In this paper, we describe a successful synthesis of two very similar spin-crossover frameworks that differ in the cyanometallic bridges involved, namely [Fe(etpz)2{Ag(CN)2}2] (1) and {Fe(etpz)2[Ag2(CN)3][Ag(CN)2]} (2) (where etpz = 2-ethylpyrazine). Magnetic and Mössbauer studies demonstrated the occurrence of abrupt one-step high-spin (HS) ↔ low-spin (LS) transitions for both complexes. The spin transition temperatures are T1/2 ↓ = 233 K and T1/2 ↑ = 243 K for 1 and T1/2 ↓ = 188 K and T1/2 ↑ = 191 K for 2 with thermal hysteresis loops of 10 K for 1 and 3 K for 2. The bridging mononuclear [Ag(CN)2]- units and FeII cations assemble to form infinite 2D layers in the structure of 1. Interestingly, compound 2 forms 2D layers of FeII cations bridged by both binuclear [Ag2(CN)3]- and mononuclear [Ag(CN)2]- units. The structures of 1 and 2 comprise different types of intermolecular interactions including Ag⋯Ag and Ag⋯Netpz, which induce the creation of supramolecular 3D frameworks. The synergy between metallophilic interactions and the spin transition is also confirmed by the variation of Ag⋯Ag distances during spin crossover. The characterization of such analogues allowed us to analyze in detail the effect of the cyanometallic bridge on the structure of new frameworks and on the bistability in Hofmann-like complexes.

Abstract
We report herein the synthesis and characterization of two unprecedented isomorphous spin-crossover two-dimensional coordination polymers of the Hofmann-type formulated {FeII(Hdpyan)2(μ2-[MII(CN)4])2}, with MII = Pd, Pt and Hdpyan is the in situ partially protonated form of 2,5-(dipyridin-4-yl)aniline (dpyan). The FeII is axially coordinated by the pyridine ring attached to the 2-position of the aniline ring, while it is equatorially surrounded by four [MII(CN)4]2- planar groups acting as trans μ2-bidentate ligands defining layers, which stack parallel to each other. The other pyridine group of Hdpyan, being protonated, remains peripheral but involved in a strong [MII-C≡N···Hpy+] hydrogen bond between alternate layers. This provokes a nearly 90° rotation of the plane defined by the [MII(CN)4]2- groups, with respect to the average plane defined by the layers, forcing the observed uncommon bridging mode and the accumulation of negative charge around each FeII, which is compensated by the axial [Hdpyan]+ ligands. According to the magnetic and calorimetric data, both compounds undergo a strong cooperative spin transition featuring a 10-12 K wide hysteresis loop centered at 220 (Pt) and 211 K (Pd) accompanied by large entropy variations, 97.4 (Pt) and 102.9 (Pd) J/K mol. The breaking symmetry involving almost 90° rotation of one of the two coordinated pyridines together with the large unit-cell volume change per FeII (ca. 50 Å3), and subsequent release of significantly short interlayer contacts upon the low-spin → high-spin event, accounts for the strong cooperativity.

Abstract
Many laboratories have performed extensive studies on the spin-crossover (SCO) phenomenon. Herein, we synthesized novel "Soma-Iwamoto type" complexes containing a 4-methoxypyrimidine (4-MeOPmd) ligand, i.e., {Fe(4-MeOPmd)2[Ag(CN)2]2} (1Ag), {Fe(4-MeOPmd)2[Au(CN)2]2} (1Au), and {Fe(4-MeOPmd)2[Ag(CN)2]2·0.25(4-MeOPmd)} (1Ag·0.25G). Moreover, we synthesized a 4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine (4,6-diMeOPmd) clathrate complex, i.e., {Fe(4-MeOPmd)2[Ag(CN)2]2·0.25(4,6-diMeOPmd)} (2Ag·0.25G) and {Fe(4-MeOPmd)2[Au(CN)2]2·0.25(4,6-diMeOPmd)} (2Au·0.25G). Some of these complexes, i.e., 1Ag·0.25G, 2Ag·0.25G, and 2Au·0.25G, demonstrated penetrated structures, which are very interesting given that they have rarely been reported to date. 1Au and 1Ag did not show the SCO phenomenon, 1Ag·0.25G showed a gradual multi-step SCO phenomenon, and 2Au·0.25G and 2Ag·0.25G showed an abrupt half SCO phenomenon.

Abstract
Supramolecular architectures, which are formed through the combination of inorganic metal cations and organic ligands by self-assembly, are one of the techniques in modern chemical science. This kind of multi-nuclear system in various dimensionalities can be implemented in various applications such as sensing, storage/cargo, display and molecular switching. Iron(II) mediated spin-crossover (SCO) supramolecular architectures with Schiff bases have attracted the attention of many investigators due to their structural novelty as well as their potential application possibilities. In this paper, we review a number of supramolecular SCO architectures of iron(II) with Schiff base ligands exhibiting varying geometrical possibilities. Abstract
Hysteretic spin crossover in coordination complexes of 3d-metal ions represents one of the most spectacular phenomena of molecular bistability. In this paper we describe a self-assembly of pyrazine (pz) and Fe(BH3CN)2 that afforded the new 2D coordination polymer [Fe(pz)2(BH3CN)2]∞. It undergoes an abrupt, hysteretic spin crossover (SCO) with a T1/2 of 338 K (heating) and 326 K (cooling) according to magnetic susceptibility measurements. Mössbauer spectroscopy revealed a complete transition between the low-spin (LS) and the high-spin (HS) states of the iron centers. This LS-to-HS transition induced an increase of the unit cell volume by 10.6%. Meanwhile, a modulation of multiple [C-Hδ+···Hδ--B] dihydrogen bonds stimulates a contraction in direction c (2.2%). The simplicity of the synthesis, mild temperatures of transition, a pronounced thermochromism, stability upon thermal cycling, a striking volume expansion upon SCO, and an easy processability to composite films make this new complex an attractive material for switchable components of diverse applications.

Abstract
The interplay of host-guest interactions and controlled modulation of spin-crossover (SCO) behavior is one of the most exploited topics regarding data storage, molecular sensing, and optical technologies. In this work, we demonstrate the experimental approach of tuning the SCO behavior via controlled modulation of the spin-state cooperativity in a 2D Hofmann coordination polymer, [FeIIPd(CN)4(L)2]·1.3MeOH (1·1.3MeOH; L = methyl isonicotinate). Removal of the solvent changes the four-step transition to a complete one-step spin transition with an enhanced hysteresis width (∼20 K). Structural analysis of solvated (1·1.3MeOH) and partially desolvated (1·0.3MeOH) compounds reveals that the crystal system changes from a monoclinic C2/c space group to an orthorhombic Imma space group, where the FeII sites are present in a more symmetrically equivalent environment. Consequently, the axial ligand-field (LF) strength and face-to-face interactions of the ligands were increased by removing the guest, which is reflected in the highly cooperative SCO in 1 (desolvated compound). Also, the shift of the CN bond stretching frequencies and decrease of their relative intensities from the variable-temperature Raman spectroscopic measurements further corroborate the SCO behavior. Besides, theoretical calculations reveal that the singlet (1Γ) LF terms decrease by removing guest molecules, enhancing the molecular population in the low-spin state at low temperature, as experimentally observed for 1. Notably, fine tuning of the SCO behavior via host-guests interactions provides a great opportunity to design potential chemosensors.

Abstract
Two 2D Hofmann-type complexes of the composition [Fe(Phpz)2{M(CN)2}2] (where Phpz = 2-phenylpyrazine; M = Ag, Au) have been synthesized, and their spin-crossover (SCO) behavior has been thoroughly characterized. Single-crystal X-ray analysis reveals that these complexes contain a crystallographically unique Fe(II) center surrounded by two axial Phpz ligands and four equatorial cyanide [M(CN)2]- bridges. It is shown that, using of a ligand with two aromatic rings, an advanced system of weak supramolecular interactions (metal-metal, C-H···M, and π···π stacking contacts) is realized. This ensures additional stabilization of the structures and the absence of solvent-accessible voids due to dense packing. Both complexes are characterized by a highly reproducible two-step SCO behavior, as revealed by different techniques (superconducting quantum interference device magnetometry, optical microscopy, etc.). Research shows the exceptional role of the presence of various supramolecular interactions in the structure and the influence of the bulky substituent in the ligand on SCO behavior. Moreover, the perspective of substituted pyrazines for the design of new switchable materials is supported by this work.

Abstract
Aiming at investigating the suitability of Hofmann-type two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymers {FeII(Lax)2[MII(CN)4]} to be processed as single monolayers and probed as spin crossover (SCO) junctions in spintronic devices, the synthesis and characterization of the MII derivatives (MII = Pd and Pt) with sulfur-rich axial ligands (Lax = 4-methyl- and 4-ethyl-disulfanylpyridine) have been conducted. The thermal dependence of the magnetic and calorimetric properties confirmed the occurrence of strong cooperative SCO behavior in the temperature interval of 100-225 K, featuring hysteresis loops 44 and 32.5 K/21 K wide for PtII-methyl and PtII/PdII-ethyl derivatives, while the PdII-methyl derivative undergoes a much less cooperative multistep SCO. Excluding PtII-methyl, the remaining compounds display light-induced excited spin-state trapping at 10 K with TLIESST temperatures in the range of 50-70 K. Single-crystal studies performed in the temperature interval 100-250 K confirmed the layered structure and the occurrence of complete transformation between the high- and low-spin states of the FeII center for the four compounds. Strong positional disorder seems to be the source of elastic frustration driving the multistep SCO observed for the PdII-methyl derivative. It is expected that the peripheral disulfanyl groups will favor anchoring and growing of the monolayer on gold substrates and optimal electron transport in the device.

Abstract
The spin-crossover (SCO) phenomenon is an active area of research. This paper describes the synthesis of an Fe-Ag Hofmann-type complex, {Fe(4-methylpyrimidine)2[Ag(CN)2]2}, which demonstrates a one-step SCO and single-layer Hofmann-type structure with Ag-N interactions and no Ag-Ag interactions, which is strikingly different from the previously synthesized complex {Fe(4-methylpyrimidine)2[Au(CN)2]2} that contains Au-Au interactions and no Au-N interactions. This difference can be explained in terms of the lack of relativistic effect in the Ag atoms and the different cooperative effects caused by their different structures. A scan-rate-dependent hysteresis is observed using magnetic measurement whereas not using 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, suggesting that the spin transition is relatively slow.

Abstract
Hofmann-like cyanometallic complexes represent one of the biggest and well-known classes of FeII spin-crossover compounds. In this paper, we report on the first FeII Hofmann clathrate analogues with unsubstituted 1,2,3-triazole, which exhibit temperature induced spin transition. Two new coordination polymers with the general formula [FeII(1,2,3-triazole)2MII(CN)4] (M = Pt, Pd) undergo abrupt hysteretic spin crossover in the range of 190-225 K as revealed by magnetic susceptibility measurements. Two compounds are isostructural and are built of infinite cyanometallic layers which are supported by 1,2,3-triazole ligands. The thermal hysteresis loop is very stable at different scan rates from 0.5 to 10 K min-1. The compounds display strong thermochromic effect, changing their colour from pink in the low-spin state to white in the high-spin state. Our findings show that 1,2,3-triazole is suitable for elaboration of spin-crossover Hofmann clathrate analogues, and its use instead of more classical azines can advantageously expand this family of complexes.

Abstract
Integration of the ON-OFF cooperative spin crossover (SCO) properties of FeII coordination polymers as components of electronic and/or spintronic devices is currently an area of great interest for potential applications. This requires the selection and growth of thin films of the appropriate material onto selected substrates. In this context, two new series of cooperative SCO two-dimensional FeII coordination polymers of the Hofmann-type formulated {FeII(Pym)2[MII(CN)4]·xH2O}n and {FeII(Isoq)2[MII(CN)4]}n (Pym = pyrimidine, Isoq = isoquinoline; MII = Ni, Pd, Pt) have been synthesized, characterized, and the corresponding Pt derivatives selected for fabrication of thin films by liquid-phase epitaxy (LPE). At ambient pressure, variable-temperature single-crystal X-ray diffraction, magnetic, and calorimetric studies of the Pt and Pd microcrystalline materials of both series display strong cooperative thermal induced SCO properties. In contrast, this property is only observed for higher pressures in the Ni derivatives. The SCO behavior of the {FeII(L)2[PtII(CN)4]}n thin films (L = Pym, Isoq) were monitored by magnetization measurements in a SQUID magnetometer and compared with the homologous samples of the previously reported isostructural {FeII(Py)2[PtII(CN)4]}n (Py = pyridine). Application of the theory of regular solutions to the SCO of the three derivatives allowed us to evaluate the effect on the characteristic SCO temperatures and the hysteresis, as well as the associated thermodynamic parameters when moving from microcrystalline bulk solids to nanometric thin films.
