Abstract
Heavy metal ions (Hg(ii)) were detected in fresh chicken liver and snail shell extract samples using novel synthesised SDA/MWCNT-modified electrodes. The synthesized N,N'-bis(salicylaldehyde)-1,2-diaminobenzene (SDA) ligand was characterized via FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. The hydroxyl and imine functional groups present in SDA act as active sites and bind to the MWCNT surface. The surface morphology of the modified SDA/MWCNT electrode exhibited a star-like crystal structure and the preconcentration of Hg(ii)-SDA/MWCNTs lead to a crystal cloud structure, as characterized by SEM with EDX. The enhancement of current and conductance of the SDA/MWCNT- and MWCNT-modified electrode was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The conductance (σ) values for the MWCNT- and SDA/MWCNT-modified electrodes are 234.1 × 10-5 S cm-1 and 358.4 × 10-5 S cm-1, respectively, as determined by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Consequently, an electrochemical sensor with outstanding performance in terms of reproducibility, stability and anti-interference ability was fabricated. The stripping analysis of Hg(ii) was performed using square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Using SWASV, a linear range of Hg(ii) response was found to be 1.3 to 158 μg L-1, and the limit of detection (LOD) was 0.24 μg L-1. Finally, the results of the recovered value of Hg(ii) in freshly prepared chicken liver and snail shell extract samples by SWASV were compared with the atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) results.

Abstract
Arsenic pollution of water is one of the severest environmental challenges for human health, and adsorption is the most often used technique in investigations of selective As removal. However, the development of low-cost and easily recoverable adsorbent for aqueous arsenic adsorption remains a challenge. In this work, the α-FeOOH-decorated monolith bamboo composites (α-FeOOH/MB) were fabricated via directly decorating α-FeOOH nanoneedles on the waste bamboo framework without pre‑carbonization. As expected, the as-prepared α-FeOOH/MB exhibits considerably increased adsorption capacity for aqueous arsenic over pure α-FeOOH nanoneedles, with increases of 1.88 and 1.52 times for As(V) and As(III), respectively. Meanwhile, the α-FeOOH/MB composites exhibit positive reusability (recovering 89.73 % and 80.17 % adsorption capacity for As(V) and As(III) after 5 cycles) and are easy to separate after water treatment. Furthermore, the α-FeOOH/MB composites exhibit high arsenic adsorption selectivity even in the presence of competing anions. Overall, the as-obtained α-FeOOH/MB composites, reuse of waste bamboo, are a kind of favorable candidate for arsenic decontamination in practical application owing to the high adsorption capacity, low-cost and facile separation features.

Health risk implications of iron in wastewater soil-food crops grown in the vicinity of peri urban areas of the District Sargodha. PLoS One 2022; 17:e0275497. Abstract
Irrigation using sewage water can be beneficial, as it can increase the productivity of crops but has negative consequences on crops, soil contamination, and human health. It contains a variety of toxins, such as chemicals and heavy metals, which damage the soil and crops. In this regard, the aim of the research was to assess the potential health hazards of iron (Fe) metal in food crops (leafy and root crops) treated with wastewater (T_1), canal water (T_2), and tube well water (T_3). Water, soil, and edible components of food crops were collected at random from three distinct locations. Fe concentration in samples was estimated using atomic absorption spectrophotometer, following wet digestion method. The Fe concentrations, ranged from 0.408 to 1.03 mg/l in water, 31.55 to 187.47 mgkg-1 in soil and 4.09 to 32.583 mgkg-1 in crop samples; which were within permissible limits of the World Health Organization (WHO). There was a positive correlation between soils and crops. The bioconcentration factor, enrichment factor (EF), daily intake of metals (DIM), health risk index (HRI), and target hazard quotient (THQ) all values were <1, except for a pollution load index >1, which indicated soil contamination, but there was no Fe toxicity in crops, no health risk, and no-carcinogenic risk for these food crops in humans. To prevent the excessive accumulation of Fe metal in the food chain, regular monitoring is needed.

Abstract
The presence of heavy metal ions in the biosphere is of grave concern, as these are toxic and impact living organisms. Lack of pure drinking water can spread waterborne diseases like cholera, dysentery, typhoid, etc. The presence of heavy metals like arsenic and radioactive materials can cause cancer. The detection and removal of these heavy metals are important for sustaining life. Herein, MXene comes to the rescue as a crucial and potential material, which can sense and adsorb heavy metal ions. Developed in 2011, MXenes are an emerging class of 2D nanomaterials that are appropriate substitutes for existing heavy metal ions sensing materials and have shown excellent efficiency due to their better hydrophilicity, capacity of transportation of electrons, functionalization, and a great variety in compositions as compared to the other nanomaterials properties. This work gives an insight into the chemistry and synthesis of MXenes for further utilization as a sensor in heavy metal ions toxicity and underlines the key future challenges to knowing the full prospective of MXenes in environmental systems.

Abstract
The rise of ceramic aerogel offers traditional ceramics a new window. Alongside the emerging prospects, what is open to explore includes the elegant design of a ceramic aerogel with tailorable inner organizations, what would occur when complex hierarchy exists in such an already intricate system, and how the properties get influenced as the complexity fades. Borrowing the wisdom from supramolecular world, we exquisitely transform BN aerogel from a complex hierarchy to a flatten microstructure based on solvent-induced morphology switch of its supramolecular precursor gel. Such reduction in structural hierarchy has insignificant effect on the thermal conductivity (∼0.027 W/(m·K)) but shifts the wettability from hydrophobicity to hydrophilicity and occasions nearly 3-fold difference in ion adsorption rate, as exemplified by lead ions. This work may promote the understanding of special hierarchy existing in delicate systems and inspire other attempts to harness the functionality of aerogels by manipulating structural hierarchy.
