Abstract
A cost-effective and convenient method for supporting of Cu(ii) nanoparticles on a modified chitosan backbone containing urea and thiourea bridges using thiosemicarbazide (TS), pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and toluene-2,4-diisocyanate (TDI) linkers was designed. The prepared supramolecular (CS-TDI-PMDA-TS-Cu(ii)) nanocomposite was characterized by using Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), thermogravimetry/differential thermogravimetry analysis (TGA/DTA), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), EDS elemental mapping and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The obtained supramolecular CS-TDI-PMDA-TS-Cu(ii) nanomaterial was demonstrated to act as a multifunctional nanocatalyst for promoting of multicomponent cascade Knoevenagel condensation/click 1,3-dipolar azide-nitrile cycloaddition reactions very efficiently between aromatic aldehydes, sodium azide and malononitrile under solvent-free conditions and affording the corresponding (E)-2-(1H-tetrazole-5-yl)-3-arylacrylenenitrile derivatives. Low catalyst loading, working under solvent-free conditions and short reaction time as well as easy preparation and recycling, and reuse of the catalyst for five consecutive cycles without considerable decrease in its catalytic efficiency make it a suitable candidate for the catalytic reactions promoted by Cu species.

Abstract
Supramolecular palladium(ii) supported on modified chitosan by dl-methionine using an ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid linker (Pd@MET-EDTA-CS) was designed and prepared through a simple procedure. The structure of this novel supramolecular nanocomposite was characterized by different spectroscopic, microscopic and analytical techniques including FTIR, EDX, XRD, FESEM, TGA, DRS, TEM, AA, and BET. The obtained bio-based nanomaterial was successfully investigated, as a highly efficient and green heterogeneous catalyst, in the Heck cross-coupling reaction (HCR) for the synthesis of various valuable biologically active cinnamic acid ester derivatives from the corresponding aryl halides using several acrylates. Indeed, aryl halides containing I or Br survived very well under optimized conditions to afford the corresponding products compared to the substrates with Cl. The prepared Pd@MET-EDTA-CS nanocatalyst promoted the HCR in high to excellent yields and short reaction times with minimum Pd loading (0.0027 mol%) on its structure as well as without any leaching occurring during the process. The recovery of the catalyst was performed by simple filtration and the catalytic activity remained approximately constant after five runs for the model reaction.

Abstract
Transition metals have a long history in heterogeneous catalysis. Noble or precious transition metals have been widely used in this field. The advantage of noble and precious metals is obvious in 'heterogeneous catalysis'. However, the choice of Earth abundant metals is a sustainable alternative due to their abundance and low cost. Preparing these metals in the nanoscale dimension increases their surface area which also increases the catalytic reactions of these materials. Nevertheless, metals are unstable in the nanoparticle form and tend to form aggregates which restrict their applications. Loading metal nanoparticles (MNPs) into highly porous materials is among the many alternatives for combating the unstable nature of the active species. Among porous materials, highly crystalline metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which are an assembly of metal ions/clusters with organic ligands, are the best candidate. MOFs, on their own, possess catalytic activity derived from the linkers and metal ions or clusters. The catalytic properties of both non-noble metal nanoparticles (MNPs) and MOFs can be improved by loading non-noble MNPs in MOFs yielding MNP@MOF composites with a variety of potential applications, given the synergy and based on the nature of the MNP and MOF. Here, we discussed the synthesis of MNP@MOF materials and the applications of non-noble MNP@MOF materials in heterogeneous catalysis.

Abstract
Suzuki cross-coupling reactions catalyzed by palladium are authoritative protocols in fine-chemical synthesis. Mass transfer and catalyst activity are both significant factors affecting the reaction efficiency in heterogeneous reactions. Although the holistic catalysts hold great promise in heterogeneous reactions due to the enhanced mass transport and convenient recycling, the unsatisfied catalytic activity has impeded further large-scale applications. In addition, another pronounced barrier is the product separation in the intricate system. Here, the catalytic production and separation of biphenyl (purity of 99.7%) were achieved by integrating the Suzuki cross-coupling reactions and the crystallization separation for the first time. A hierarchical-structured impeller with Pd nanoparticles (NPs) loaded on the Ni(OH)2 nanosheets was prepared to catalyze the Suzuki reactions for bromobenzene, which exhibits a high turnover frequency (TOF) value of 25,976 h-1 and a yield of 99.5%. The X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) analysis has unveiled that the electron transfer between the Pd NPs and Ni(OH)2 accounts for the greatly enhanced catalytic activity. The findings inspire new insights toward rational engineering of highly efficient holistic catalysts for Suzuki reaction, and the innovative integrated technology offers an avenue for the separation and collection of products.

Abstract
Porous silica particles have shown applications in various technological fields including their use as catalyst supports in heterogeneous catalysis. The mesoporous silica particles have ordered porosity, high surface area, and good chemical stability. These interesting structural or textural properties make porous silica an attractive material for use as catalyst supports in various heterogeneous catalysis reactions. The colloidal nature of the porous silica particles is highly useful in catalytic applications as it guarantees better mass transfer properties and uniform distribution of the various metal or metal oxide nanocatalysts in solution. The catalysts show high activity, low degree of metal leaching, and ease in recycling when supported or immobilized on porous silica-based materials. In this overview, we have pointed out the importance of porous silica as catalyst supports. A variety of chemical reactions catalyzed by different catalysts loaded or embedded in porous silica supports are studied. The latest reports from the literature about the use of porous silica-based materials as catalyst supports are listed and analyzed. The new and continued trends are discussed with examples.

Abstract
AbstractThe palladium-catalyzed Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction is one of the most important and efficient reactions to prepare a variety of organic compounds, including biaryls. Despite the overwhelming number of reports related to this topic, some methodological difficulties persist in terms of catalyst handling, recovery, and reuse, as well as the reaction media. This work reports the rational design of new, efficient, cost-effective, and reusable palladium catalysts supported on synthetic talc for the Suzuki–Miyaura reaction. From the results, key points were identified: both designed catalysts accelerated the reaction in EtOH and an open-flask setup, affording moderate to excellent yields within a short time (e.g., 30 min) even for deactivated aryl halides; the protocol can be applied to a great number of both cross-coupling partners, showing an excellent functional group tolerance; the catalysts can be recovered and reused without significant loss of activity. This protocol was used for the synthesis of a precursor of angiotensin II inhibitors such as valsartan, losartan, irbesartan, and telmisartan.
