Abstract
A Brønsted acid catalyzed aza-Friedel-Crafts reaction of indolizines with 3-hydroxyisoindolinones has been established, which constructs isoindolinone derivatives bearing a tetrasubstituted stereocenter in good to high yields and enantioselectivities. Notably, this strategy provides a new access to C1-functionalization of indolizines with excellent regioselectivities. Moreover, this intriguing C1-regioselective transformation was induced under thermodynamic control.

Abstract
A highly efficient chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed enantioselective Friedel-Crafts addition of indolizine to cyclic N-sulfonyl imine has been established. The newly developed protocol, which probably proceeds via a monoactivation reaction pathway, allows the access of enantioenriched sulfonamide functionalized indolizines with excellent yields (up to 99%) and enantioselectivities (up to 99%). Moreover, the synthetic utility of this protocol has been explored with some chemical transformations.

Abstract
An atom economical and environmentally benign protocol has been developed for the regioselective C(sp2)-H bond functionalization of indolizines. The acetic acid-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction proceeds under metal-free conditions, producing a wide range of synthetically useful indolizine derivatives. The present protocol showed good functional group tolerance and broad substrate scope in good to excellent yields. Quantum mechanical investigation using density functional theory (DFT) has played a crucial role in understanding that acetic acid is the key player in determining the actual pathway as the catalyst and its ultrafast nature. Different pathways involving inter- and intramolecular proton transfer, with or without acetic acid, were investigated. Calculated results revealed that a proton shuttle mechanism is involved for the least energetic, most favorable acetic acid-catalyzed pathway. Furthermore, regioselectivity has also been explained theoretically.

Abstract
We report herein a highly straightforward strategy for the synthesis of a new axially chiral 3-arylindolizine scaffold via organocatalytic asymmetric arylation reactions of indolizines and p-quinone esters. Using the chiral phosphoric acid catalyst, a series of axially chiral 3-arylindolizines were accessed in good to excellent yields and atropo-enantioselectivities. This approach features a broad substrate scope, mild reaction conditions, good scalability, and facile derivatization. Moreover, preliminary investigations based on nonlinear effects and a thermal racemization study demonstrated the intrinsic pathway for the formation of axial chirality and its potential utility.

Abstract
An organocatalytic highly diastero- and enantioselective Friedel-Crafts conjugate addition of indolizines to prochiral cyclopentenediones has been successfully developed. This desymmetric transformation provides a direct access to the desired indolizine-substituted cyclopentanediones in yields of 62-91% and excellent stereoselectivities. The utility of the approach was demonstrated by diverse late-stage functionalizations through reduction or oxidation. Importantly, the direct sp2 C-H functionalization with nitromethane in one-pot process resulted in the indolizine-linked axially chiral styrene bearing a remote chiral center.

Abstract
A base-promoted (4 + 2) cyclization of aza-o-quinone methides (aza-o-QMs) in situ generated from N-(o-chloromethyl)aryl amides was established. In this approach, azlactones were utilized as competent two-atom reaction partners to undergo (4 + 2) cyclization with aza-o-QMs, which afforded a series of dihydroquinolinone derivatives in overall good yields (up to 98%). This protocol has not only advanced the development of aza-o-QM-involved reactions, but also offered a useful method for constructing biologically important dihydroquinolinone frameworks.

Abstract
Reported herein is an unexpected construction of functionalized π-extended indolizine polycycles through a one-pot two-step cascade process comprising the base-promoted dearomative [3+2] cycloaddition of quinilinium salts and 3-alkenyl oxindoles, followed by a DDQ-mediated oxidative decarbonylation. Moreover, we could achieve the substrate-controlled diverse synthesis of structurally strained cyclopropane spirooxindole by using pyridinium salts as starting materials.

Abstract
The controlled mono-addition of indolizines to isatins under very mild conditions is described. The reaction occurs in water using diphenylphosphate as the catalyst, which is dramatically accelerated by surfactant addition. 3-Hydroxy-3-indolizinyl-2-oxindole scaffolds were synthesized in up to >99% yield. Notably, in organic solvents only bis-addition products were observed.
