Abstract
In this paper, a novel rare-earth-doped upconverted nanomaterial NaYF4:Yb,Tm fluorescent probe is reported, which can detect cancer-related specific miRNAs in low abundance. The detection is based on an upconversion of nanomaterials NaYF4:Yb,Tm, with emissions at 345, 362, 450, 477, 646, and 802 nm, upon excitation at 980 nm. The optimal Yb3+:Tm3+ doping ratio is 40:1, in which the NaYF4:Yb,Tm nanomaterials have the strongest fluorescence. The NaYF4:Yb, Tm nanoparticles were coated with carboxylation or carboxylated protein, in order to improve their water solubility and biocompatibility. The two commonly expressed proteins, miRNA-155 and miRNA-150, were detected by the designed fluorescent probe. The results showed that the probes can distinguish miRNA-155 well from partial and complete base mismatch miRNA-155, and can effectively distinguish miRNA-155 and miRNA-150. The preliminary results indicate that these upconverted nanomaterials have good potential for protein detection in disease diagnosis, including early cancer detection.

Abstract
In this work, high-temperature pyrolysis was used to prepare both the core and shell of lantha-nide-doped UCNPs with lithium yttrium tetrafluoride (LiYF4) to enhance the green luminescence. Merocyanine 540 (MC540)-grafted magnetic nanoparticles were incorporated in the PD-L1 pep-tide-imprinted poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) particles, which were formed by precipitation in a non-solvent. UCNPs in the non-solvent bath were thus entrapped in the imprinted particles to generate composite nanoparticles for the targeting and photodynamic therapy of PD-L1 in tumor cells. Finally, the in vitro cytotoxicity of the nanoparticles in HepG2 human liver cancer cells was evaluated with the continuous administration of MC540/MNPs@MIPs/UCNPs under irradiation by an NIR laser. To understand the delivery of the UCNP-embedded molecularly imprinted pol-ymers, the intrinsic and extrinsic pathways were also investigated.

Abstract
A fluorescent probe for specific biorecognition was prepared by a facile method in which amphiphilic random copolymers were encapsulated with hydrophobic upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs). This method quickly converted the hydrophobic UCNPs to hydrophilic UNCPs. Moreover, the self-folding ability of the amphiphilic copolymers allowed the formation of molecular imprinting polymers with template-shaped cavities. LiYF4:Yb3+/Tm3+@LiYF4:Yb3+ UCNP with up-conversion emission in the visible light region was prepared; this step was followed by the synthesis of an amphiphilic random copolymer, poly(methacrylate acid-co-octadecene) (poly(MAA-co-OD)). Combining the UCNPs and poly(MAA-co-OD) with the templates afforded a micelle-like structure. After removing the templates, UCNPs encapsulated with the molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) (UCNPs@MIP) were obtained. The adsorption capacities of UCNPs@MIP bound with albumin and hemoglobin, respectively, were compared. The results showed that albumin was more easily bound to UCNPs@MIP than to hemoglobin because of the effect of protein conformation. The feasibility of using UCNPs@MIP as a fluorescent probe was also studied. The results showed that the fluorescence was quenched when hemoglobin was adsorbed on UCNPs@MIP; however, this was not observed for albumin. This fluorescence quenching is attributed to Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) and overlap of the absorption spectrum of hemoglobin with the fluorescence spectrum of UCNPs@MIP. To our knowledge, the encapsulation approach for fabricating the UCNPs@MIP nanocomposite, which was further used as a fluorescent probe, might be the first report on specific biorecognition.

Abstract
As a kind of new psychoactive substance (NPS), synthetic cathinones have drawn great worldwide attention. In this study, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), as adsorbents for the extraction and determination of 4-methyldimethcathinone (4-MDMC), were first synthesized by coprecipitation polymerization. The physicochemical analyses of MIPs were successfully performed by XRD, FTIR, FESEM and TGA techniques. Furthermore, rebinding properties of temperature and pH dependence, and selectivity and reusability tests for MIPs and non-imprinted polymers (NIPs) were performed using an ultraviolet-visible spectrometer (UV-vis). The obtained results indicate that the imprinting efficiency has strong dependence on temperature and pH, and the optimal adsorption for targets is achieved under the condition of 318 K and pH = 6.0. This means that the combination between the polymers and 4-MDMC is a strong spontaneous and endothermic process. Compared with NIPs, MIPs exhibit prominent adsorption capacity (Qe = 9.77 mg g−1, 318 K). The selectivity coefficients (k) of MIPs for 4-MDMC, methylenedioxypentedrone (βk-MBDP), 4-ethylmethcathinone (4-EMC), methoxetamine (MXE) and tetrahydrofuranylfentanyl (THF-F) were found to be 1.70, 3.49, 7.14 and 5.82, respectively. Moreover, it was found that the adsorption equilibrium was achieved within 30 min. The aim of this work is the simple synthesis of MIPs and the optimal performance of the molecular recognition of 4-MDMC. Moreover, the synthesized MIPs can be easily regenerated and repeatedly used with negligible loss of efficiency (only 9.94% loss after six times adsorption–desorption tests). Satisfying recoveries in the range of 69.3–78.9% indicate that MIPs have good applicability for analyte removal from urine samples. Ultimately, this material shows great promise for the rapid extraction and separation of synthetic cathinones, which are dissolved in the liquid for the field of criminal sciences. Molecularly imprinted polymers, as an adsorbent for extraction and selective recognition of 4-methyldimethcathinone, were firstly synthesized through coprecipitation polymerization.![]()
