Abstract
In this study, a novel dual Brønsted acidic-basic nano-scale porous organic polymer catalyst, PC4RA@SiPr-Pip-BuSO3H, was synthesized through various steps: preparation of a 3D network of polycalix, modification with (3-chloropropyl)-trimethoxysilane, then functionalization of polymer with piperazine and n-butyl sulfonic acid under the provided conditions. The catalyst characterization was performed by FT-IR, TGA, EDS, elemental mapping, PXRD, TEM, and FE-SEM analyses, confirming high chemical stability, activity, recoverability, and excellent covalent anchoring of functional groups. So, the designed catalyst was utilized for preparing spiro-acenaphthylene and amino-spiroindene heterocycles, providing good performance with a high yield of the corresponding products. Accordingly, this catalyst can be used in different organic transformations. Necessary experiments were conducted for the recyclability test of the polymeric catalyst, and the results showed the PC4RA@SiPr-Pip-BuSO3H catalyst can be reused 10 times without any decrease in its activity or quality with excellent stability. The structure of resultant spiro heterocycles was confirmed using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and FT-IR.

Abstract
Eco-friendly self-doped carbon quantum dots (ZCQDs) with excellent corrosion inhibition ability were prepared via solid-phase pyrolysis only using Zanthoxylum bungeanum leaves as the raw material. Compared with the relevant research, a simpler and higher yield (25%) preparation process for carbon quantum dots was proposed. ZCQDs were characterized by transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and the average size of ZCQDs with multitudes of O- and N-containing functional groups was about 2.53 nm. The prepared ZCQDs were used to inhibit the corrosion of Q235 steel in HCl solution, and the inhibition behavior was investigated through weight loss, electrochemical test, surface analysis, and adsorption thermodynamic analyses. The results showed that the ZCQDs, acted as a mixed corrosion inhibitor, have an effective corrosion inhibition for Q235, the corrosion inhibition efficiency reached 95.98% at 200 mg/L, and at this concentration, effective protection of at least 132h (IE > 90%) is provided. Moreover, the adsorption mechanism of ZCQDs was consistent with that of Redlich-Peterson adsorption, including chemisorption and physisorption. A new corrosion inhibition mechanism of ZCQDs has been thoroughly studied and proposed; ZCQDs have functional groups containing O and N, which can form a protective barrier through physical adsorption and chemisorption, but the coverage of the protective film is low at low concentrations. With the increase of concentration, the protective film formed by ZCQDs on the metal surface will first increase the coverage and then adsorb more ZCQDs on the protective film to form a thicker and denser protective film to protect the metal. The carbon quantum dots prepared in this paper have advantages including a green, renewable precursor, a fast method, high yield, and excellent corrosion inhibition. Therefore, this work can inspire and facilitate, to a certain extent, the future application of doped carbon quantum dots as efficient corrosion inhibitors in HCl solutions.

Abstract
Pyrimidine compounds have proven to be effective and efficient additives capable of protecting mild steel in acidic media. This class of organic compounds often functions as adsorption-type inhibitors of corrosion by forming a protective layer on the metallic substrate. The present study reports a computational study of forty pyrimidine compounds that have been investigated as sustainable inhibitors of mild steel corrosion in molar HCl solution. Quantitative structure property relationship was conducted using linear (multiple linear regression) and nonlinear (artificial neural network) models. Standardization method was employed in variable selection yielding five top chemical descriptors utilized for model development along with the inhibitor concentration. Multiple linear regression model yielded a fair predictive model. Artificial neural network model developed using k-fold cross-validation method provided a comprehensive insight into the corrosion protection mechanism of studied pyrimidine-based corrosion inhibitors. Using a multilayer perceptron with Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm, the study obtained the optimal model having a MSE of 8.479, RMSE of 2.912, MAD of 1.791, and MAPE of 2.648. The optimal neural network model was further utilized to forecast the protection capacities of nine non-synthesized pyrimidine derivatives. The predicted inhibition efficiencies ranged from 89 to 98%, revealing the significance of the considered chemical descriptors, the predictive capacity of the developed model, and the potency of the theoretical inhibitors.

Abstract
Electrochemical, surface, and density functional theory (DFT)/Monte Carlo (MC) simulation studies were used in investigating the characteristics of N,N'-(disulfanne-1,2-dicarbonothioyl)bis(N,N'-bis(2,6-dimethylphenyl)formimidamide) (DS1), N,N'-(disulfanne-1,2-dicarbonothioyl)bis(N,N'-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)formimidamide) (DS2), N,N'-(disulfanne-1,2-dicarbonothioyl)bis(N,N'-dimesitylformimidamide) (DS3), and N,N'-(disulfanne-1,2-dicarbonothioyl)bis(N,N'-bis(2,6-dichlorophenyl)formimidamide) (DS4) as inhibitors of acid corrosion of mild steel. The inhibitors were found to effectively reduce the rates of steel dissolution at the anode as well as cathodic hydrogen evolution. The order of inhibition efficiencies of studied compounds is DS1 (PDP/LPR/EIS: 98.60/97.98/96.94%) > DS2 (PDP/LPR/EIS: 98.36/96.86/96.90%) > DS3 (PDP/LPR/EIS: 94.66/87.44/94.30%) > DS4 (PDP/LPR/EIS: 83.57/77.02/75.17%) at 1.00 mM, and the overall efficiencies appeared to depend on the molecular and electronic structures of the compounds. The compounds offered high resistance to charge transfer across the electrode/electrolyte system by forming adsorbed film whose resistance increased with an increase in concentration. Findings suggested that the adsorption process involved combined chemisorption and physisorption. DFT calculations and MC simulations provided theoretical justifications for the experimental results.

Abstract
An effective method for designing new heterocyclic compounds of 6,7-dihydro-5H-cyclopenta[b]pyridine-3-carbonitrile derivatives (CAPDs) was presented through cyclocondensation reaction between 2,5-diarylidenecyclopentanone derivatives and propanedinitrile, and the cyclocondensation reaction succeeded using a sodium alkoxide solution (sodium ethoxide or sodium methoxide) as the reagent and the catalyst. The synthesized CAPD derivatives were employed as novel inhibitors for carbon steel (CS) corrosion in a molar H2SO4 medium. The corrosion protection proficiency was investigated by electrochemical measurements (open circuit potential vs time (E OCP vs t), potentiodynamic polarization plots (PDP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)) and surface morphology (scanning electron microscopy (SEM)) examinations. The results show that the CAPD derivatives exhibit mixed type inhibitors and a superior inhibition efficiency of 97.7% in the presence of 1.0 mM CAPD-1. The adsorption of CAPD derivatives on the CS interface follows the Langmuir isotherm model, including physisorption and chemisorption. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) exploration confirmed the adsorption of the CAPD derivatives on the CS substrate. Monte Carlo (MC) simulations and DFT calculations revealed that the efficacy of the CAPD molecules correlates well with their structures, and this protection was attributed to their adsorption on the CS surface.

Abstract
A novel l-histidine based ionic liquid (LHIL) was developed and successfully synthesized. Its structure was confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, 1H-NMR and high-resolution mass spectrometry. The outstanding corrosion inhibition effect of the LHIL on mild steel in 1 M hydrochloric acid was thoroughly evaluated by Tafel plots, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and localized electrochemical strategies. The results revealed that the corrosion of mild steel was effectively suppressed by the adsorption of LHIL on its surface, and the best inhibition efficiency reached 98.8%. The adsorption behavior of LHIL on steel obeyed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, which involved both chemisorption and physisorption. Theoretical calculations indicated the strong chemisorption of LHIL on steel, as proved by the low energy gap (ΔE = 0.0522 eV) and high binding energy (E binding = 303.47 kcal mol-1), which clearly confirmed the effectiveness of LHIL for steel protection.

Abstract
The present work aims to study 6-amino-4-aryl-2-oxo-1-phenyl-1,2-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile derivatives namely: 6-Amino-2-oxo-1,4-diphenyl-1,2-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile (PdC-H), 6-Amino-2-oxo-1-phenyl-4-(p-tolyl)-1,2-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile (PdC-Me) and 6-Amino-4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-oxo-1-phenyl-1,2-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile (PdC-OH) as corrosion inhibitors to provide protection for carbon steel in a molar hydrochloric acid medium. Chemical measurements such as (weight loss) and electrochemical techniques such as (Potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and Electron frequency modulation) were applied to characterize the inhibitory properties of the synthesized derivatives. The adsorption of these derivatives on the carbon steel surface was confirmed by Attenuated Total Refraction Infrared (ATR-IR), Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Our findings revealed that the tested derivatives have corrosion inhibition power, which increased significantly from 75.7 to 91.67% on the addition of KI (PdC-OH:KI = 1:1) to inhibited test solution with PdC-OH derivative at 25 °C. The adsorption process on the metal surface follows the Langmuir adsorption model. XPS analysis showed that the inhibitor layer consists of an iron oxide/hydroxide mixture in which the inhibitor molecules are incorporated. Computational chemical theories such as DFT calculations and Mont Carlo simulation have been performed to correlate the molecular properties of the investigated inhibitors with experimental efficiency. The theoretical speculation by Dmol3 corroborates with the results from the experimental findings.

Abstract
N-doped carbon quantum dots (NCQDs) were synthesized by a hydrothermal method using folic acid and o-phenylenediamine as precursors. The inhibition behaviour of the NCQDs on Q235 steel in 1 M HCl solution was appraised through electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization curves (PDP), and surface analysis. The results demonstrated that the synthesized NCQDs had an effective anticorrosion effect on Q235 steel, and the corrosion inhibition efficiency of 150 mg/L NCQDs reached 95.4%. Additionally, the analysis of the PDP corrosion potential changes indicated that the NCQDs acted as a mixed corrosion inhibitor. Moreover, the NCQDs adsorbed onto the surface of steel by coordinating its electron-rich atoms with the iron metal to form a protective film, which slowed the dissolution reaction of the anodic metal to achieve corrosion inhibition. The adsorption mechanism of the NCQDs was consistent with Langmuir adsorption, including physical and chemical adsorption. Therefore, this work can inspire and facilitate, to a certain extent, the future application of doped carbon quantum dots as efficient corrosion inhibitors in pickling solutions.

Abstract
Sugarcane purple rind ethanolic extract (SPRE) was evaluated as an efficient corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel (C-steel) in 1 M HCl solution. Dynamic weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and frequency modulation (EFM) measurements were employed to evaluate the anticorrosive efficiency of SPRE, which was further validated by morphological and wettability analyses. The results of the weight loss tests showed that the inhibition efficiency (η w) for C-steel in HCl solution increased with an increase in the concentration of SPRE. An increase in temperature moderately impaired the anticorrosive efficacy of SPRE. The maximum η w of 96.2% was attained for C-steel in the inhibition system with 800 mg L-1 SPRE at 298 K. The polarization curves indicated that SPRE simultaneously suppressed the anodic and cathodic reactions for C-steel in HCl solution, which can be categorized as a mixed-type corrosion inhibitor with a predominant anodic effect. The corrosion current density (i corr-P) was monotonously reduced with an increase in the concentration of SPRE. The charge transfer resistance (R ct) was enhanced for C-steel in the inhibition solution with a restrained capacitive property due to the adsorption of SPRE. A high temperature caused partial desorption of SPRE on the C-steel surface and a slight increase in i corr-P and decrease in R ct. However, SPRE still fully maintained its morphology and wettability at 328 K. The electrochemical kinetics of C-steel in HCl solution without and with SPRE was also supported by EFM spectra. The adsorption of SPRE conformed to the Langmuir isotherm and increased the corrosion activation energy of C-steel. Complementing the experimental observations, calculations based on density functional theory indicated that the hydroxyl-substituted pyran moiety on the carthamin (CTM) and anthocyanin (ATC) constituents in SPRE hardly contributed to its reactive activity due to their adsorption processes. Therefore, CTM and ATC exhibited imperfect parallel adsorption on the Fe (100) plane according to the molecular dynamics simulation, while anthoxanthin (ATA) and catechinic acid (CCA) constituents exhibited a flat orientation on the iron surface.
