Green thin film for stable electrical switching in a low-cost washable memory device: proof of concept

Self-Assembled Lanthanum Oxide Nanoflakes by Electrodeposition Technique for Resistive Switching Memory and Artificial Synaptic Devices

In recent years, many metal oxides have been rigorously studied to be employed as solid electrolytes for resistive switching (RS) devices. Among these solid electrolytes, lanthanum oxide (La2 O3 ) is comparatively less explored for RS applications. Given this, the present work focuses on the electrodeposition of La2 O3 switching layers and the investigation of their RS properties for memory and neuromorphic computing applications. Initially, the electrodeposited La2 O3 switching layers are thoroughly characterized by various analytical techniques. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and Mott-Schottky techniques are probed to understand the in situ electrodeposition, RS mechanism, and n-type semiconducting nature of the fabricated La2 O3 switching layers. All the fabricated devices exhibit bipolar RS characteristics with excellent endurance and stable retention. Moreover, the device mimics the various bio-synaptic properties such as potentiation-depression, excitatory post-synaptic currents, and paired-pulse facilitation. It is demonstrated that the fabricated devices are non-ideal memristors based on double-valued charge-flux characteristics. The switching variation of the device is studied using the Weibull distribution technique and modeled and predicted by the time series analysis technique. Based on electrical and EIS results, a possible filamentary-based RS mechanism is suggested. The present results assert that La2 O3 is a promising solid electrolyte for memory and brain-inspired applications.

A Brief Review on Flexible Electronics for IoT: Solutions for Sustainability and New Perspectives for Designers

The Internet of Things (IoT) is gaining more and more popularity and it is establishing itself in all areas, from industry to everyday life. Given its pervasiveness and considering the problems that afflict today's world, that must be carefully monitored and addressed to guarantee a future for the new generations, the sustainability of technological solutions must be a focal point in the activities of researchers in the field. Many of these solutions are based on flexible, printed or wearable electronics. The choice of materials therefore becomes fundamental, just as it is crucial to provide the necessary power supply in a green way. In this paper we want to analyze the state of the art of flexible electronics for the IoT, paying particular attention to the issue of sustainability. Furthermore, considerations will be made on how the skills required for the designers of such flexible circuits, the features required to the new design tools and the characterization of electronic circuits are changing.

Study of carbon nanotube embedded honey as a resistive switching material

In this paper, natural organic honey embedded with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was studied as a resistive switching material for biodegradable nonvolatile memory in emerging neuromorphic systems. CNTs were dispersed in a honey-water solution with the concentration of 0.2 wt% CNT and 30 wt% honey. The final honey-CNT-water mixture was spin-coated and dried into a thin film sandwiched in between Cu bottom electrode and Al top electrode to form a honey-CNT based resistive switching memory (RSM). Surface morphology, electrical characteristics and current conduction mechanism were investigated. The results show that although CNTs formed agglomerations in the dried honey-CNT film, both switching speed and the stability in SET and RESET process of honey-CNT RSM were improved. The mechanism of current conduction in CNT is governed by Ohm's law in low-resistance state and the low-voltage range in high-resistance state, but transits to the space charge limited conduction at high voltages approaching the SET voltage.

Vibrational and electrochemical studies of pectin-a candidate towards environmental friendly lithium-ion battery development

Pectin polymers are considered for lithium-ion battery electrodes. To understand the performance of pectin as an applied buffer layer, the electrical, magnetic, and optical properties of pectin films are investigated. This work describes a methodology for creating pectin films, including both pristine pectin and Fe-doped pectin, which are optically translucent, and explores their potential for lithium-ion battery application. The transmission response is found extended in optimally Fe-doped pectin, and prominent modes for cation bonding are identified. Fe doping enhances the conductivity observed in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and from the magnetic response of pectin evidence for Fe³⁺ is identified. The Li-ion half-cell prepared with pectin as binder for anode materials such as graphite shows stable charge capacity over long cycle life, and with slightly higher specific capacity compare with the cell prepared using polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) as binder. A novel enhanced charging specific capacity at a high C-rate is observed in cells with pectin binder, suggesting that within a certain rate (∼5 C), pectin has higher capacity at faster charge rates. The pectin system is found as a viable base material for organic-inorganic synthesis studies.
