Rapid simultaneous removal of cationic dyes and Cr(VI) by boron cluster polyaniline with a target site

Pomelo peel biomass derived highly active advanced-oxidation-process catalyst: Complete elimination of organic pollutants

The advanced oxidation process (AOPs) is playing an important role in the elimination of hazardous organic pollutants, but the development of inexpensive and highly active advanced catalysts is facing challenges. In this study, a low-cost and readily available agricultural waste resource pomelo peel-flesh (PPF) biomass was used as the basic raw material, and the uniformly dispersed small cobalt nanoparticles were effectively anchored in the biochar derived from pomelo peel-flesh (BDPPF) by impregnation adsorption/complexation combined with heat treatment. Co/BDPPF (BDPPF embedded with Co) can effectively activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to SO4·-, ·OH and 1O2 reactive oxygen species, and achieve nearly 100% degradation of tetracycline persistent organic pollutant. Co/BDPPF can not only degrade tetracycline efficiently in complex water environment, but also degrade most organic pollutants universally, and has long-term stability, which solves the problem of poor universality and stability of heterogeneous catalysts to a certain extent. Importantly, Co/BDPPF derived from waste biomass was also innovatively designed as the core of an integrated continuous purification device to achieve continuous purification of organic wastewater. In this study, agricultural waste resources were selected as biomass raw materials to achieve efficient capture of Co2+, and finally developed advanced AOPs catalyst with excellent performance to achieve the purification of organic wastewater. It also provides a promising solution for the preparation of simple, low-cost, large-scale production of AOPs catalysts that can be put into actual production.

Antitumor Therapy through Photothermal Performance Synergized with Catalytic Activity Based on the Boron Cluster Supramolecular Frameworks

Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) has received widespread attention as a tumor optical treatment strategy in the field of malignant tumor therapy. Nonmetallic multifunctional nanomaterials as CDT agents, due to their low toxicity, long-lasting effects, and safety characteristics, have promising applications in the integrated diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Here, we modified the supramolecular framework of boron clusters, coupled with a variety of dyes to develop a series of metal-free agent compounds, and demonstrated that these nonmetallic compounds have excellent CDT activities through experiments. Subsequently, the best performing Methylene Blue/[closo-B12H12]2- (MB@B12H12) was used as an example. Through theoretical calculations, electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy, and 808 nm light irradiation, we confirmed that MB@B12H12 exhibited photothermal performance and CDT activity further. More importantly, we applied MB@B12H12 to melanoma cells and subcutaneous tumor, demonstrating its effective suppression of melanoma growth in vitro and in vivo through the synergistic effects of photothermal performance and CDT activity. This study emphasizes the generalizability of the coupling of dyes to [closo-B12H12]2- with important clinical translational potential for CDT reagents. Among them, MB@B12H12 may have a brighter future, paving the way for the rapid development of metal-free CDT reagents.

Recent Advances in the Removal of Organic Dyes from Aqueous Media with Conducting Polymers, Polyaniline and Polypyrrole, and Their Composites

Water pollution by organic dyes, and its remediation, is an important environmental issue associated with ever-increasing scientific interest. Conducting polymers have recently come to the forefront as advanced agents for removing dye. The present review reports on the progress represented by the literature published in 2020–2022 on the application of conducting polymers and their composites in the removal of dyes from aqueous media. Two composites, incorporating the most important polymers, polyaniline, and polypyrrole, have been used as efficient dye adsorbents or photocatalysts of dye decomposition. The recent application trends are outlined, and future uses also exploiting the electrical and electrochemical properties of conducting polymers are offered.

Syntheses, structures, and luminescence properties of five new coordination polymers based on 3-carboxy-1-(3′-carboxybenzyl)-2-oxidopyridinium and neutral ligands

Five CPs have been synthesized by a new semi-rigid dicarboxyl ligand and neutral ligands under hydrothermal conditions, and their luminescent sensing experiments for different small molecules/ions were studied in detail.

Layered supramolecular network of cyclodextrin triplets with azobenzene-grafting polyoxometalate for dye degradation and partner-enhancement

A tri-β-cyclodextrin-armed host compound is synthesized to construct layered supramolecular network co-assembly with a doubly azobenzene-decorated polyoxometalate cluster through host-guest interaction. The porous hybrid assembly displays automatic degradation of selective dyes and the acceleration of the partner dye in both water and dichloromethane in the air.
