Rationally designed hierarchical C/TiO2/Ti multilayer core-sheath wires for high-performance energy storage devices

Multilayer Core-Sheath Wires with Radially Aligned N-Doped Carbon Nanohole Arrays for Boosting Energy Storage in Zinc-Ion Hybrid Supercapacitors

Aqueous zinc-ion hybrid supercapacitors (ZHSCs) with the characteristics of low cost, long cycle stability, and good safety have been regarded as potential candidates for wearable energy storage applications. Herein, we reasonably designed a unique binder-free nitrogen-doped (N-doped) porous carbon@TiO2@Ti multilayer core-sheath wire (N-CTNT), which has vertical N-doped carbon nanoholes radially aligned on the wire surface. The unique structure and nitrogen dopants of N-CTNTs have facilitated zinc deposition on N-CTNT to form a hierarchical and robust zinc-carbon composite (Zn@N-CTNTs). A wire-shaped ZHSC was constructed with N-CTNTs and Zn@N-CTNTs as cathode and anode electrodes, respectively. The as-prepared ZHSC has an outstanding specific capacitance of 488 mF cm-2 at 1 mA cm-2. This hybrid supercapacitor also exhibits an excellent energy density of 211 μW h cm-2, good rate performance, and long cycle stability with a capacity retention rate of 90.4% after 16,000 cycles.

Recent Advances and Challenges Toward Application of Fibers and Textiles in Integrated Photovoltaic Energy Storage Devices

Flexible microelectronic devices have seen an increasing trend toward development of miniaturized, portable, and integrated devices as wearable electronics which have the requirement for being light weight, small in dimension, and suppleness. Traditional three-dimensional (3D) and two-dimensional (2D) electronics gadgets fail to effectively comply with these necessities owing to their stiffness and large weights. Investigations have come up with a new family of one-dimensional (1D) flexible and fiber-based electronic devices (FBEDs) comprising power storage, energy-scavenging, implantable sensing, and flexible displays gadgets. However, development and manufacturing are still a challenge owing to their small radius, flexibility, low weight, weave ability and integration in textile electronics. This paper will provide a detailed review on the importance of substrates in electronic devices, intrinsic property requirements, fabrication classification and applications in energy harvesting, energy storage and other flexible electronic devices. Fiber- and textile-based electronic devices for bulk/scalable fabrications, encapsulation, and testing are reviewed and presented future research ideas to enhance the commercialization of these fiber-based electronics devices.

Layer exchange synthesis of multilayer graphene

Low-temperature synthesis of multilayer graphene (MLG) on arbitrary substrates is the key to incorporating MLG-based functional thin films, including transparent electrodes, low-resistance wiring, heat spreaders, and battery anodes in advanced electronic devices. This paper reviews the synthesis of MLG via the layer exchange (LE) phenomenon between carbon and metal from its mechanism to the possibility of device applications. The mechanism of LE is completely different from that of conventional MLG precipitation methods using metals, and the resulting MLG exhibits unique features. Modulation of metal species and growth conditions enables synthesis of high-quality MLG over a wide range of growth temperatures (350 °C-1000 °C) and MLG thicknesses (5-500 nm). Device applications are discussed based on the high electrical conductivity (2700 S cm^-1) of MLG and anode operation in Li-ion batteries. Finally, we discuss the future challenges of LE for MLG and its application to flexible devices.
