Z-Selective phosphine promoted 1,4-reduction of ynoates and propynoic amides in the presence of water

Phosphine-catalyzed regio- and stereo-selective hydroboration of ynamides to (Z)-β-borylenamides

We report a tri-n-butyl phosphine catalyzed regio- and stereo-selective hydroboration of ynamides to yield (Z)-β-borylenamides in good yields. Surprisingly, a formal cis addition to the triple bond was observed as confirmed by NMR and X-ray crystallography. ³¹P NMR studies suggest that a zwitterionic vinylphosphonium intermediate is key in the mechanism. The resulting products were further transformed to β-CF₃ enamides via stereoretentive trifluoromethylation.

Highly Z-Selective Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons Olefination Using Modified Still-Gennari-Type Reagents

In this report, new, easily accessible reagents for highly Z-selective HWE reactions are presented. Alkyl di-(1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropyl)phosphonoacetates, structurally similar to Still–Gennari type reagents, were tested in HWE reactions with a series of various aldehydes. Very good Z-selectivity (up to a 98:2 Z:E ratio) was achieved in most cases along with high yields. Application of the new reagents may be a valuable, practical alternative to the well-established Still–Gennari or Ando Z-selective carbonyl group olefination protocols.

Phosphine-catalyzed hydroboration of propiolonitriles: access to (E)-1,2-vinylcyanotrifluoroborate derivatives

We report an organocatalytic trans hydroboration of 3-substituted-propiolonitriles. In the presence of catalytic amounts of tributylphosphine and pinacolborane, regioselective hydroboration of the internal triple bond proceeded in a stereoselective fashion under mild conditions to afford the corresponding (E)-1,2-vinylcyanoborane derivatives. The mechanism is proposed to occur through a 1,2-phosphine addition instead of a canonical 1,4-conjugate addition pathway.
