Catalyst-Free Visible Light-Driven Hydrosulfonylation of Alkenes and Alkynes with Sulfonyl Chlorides in Water

A convenient and sustainable method for synthesizing sulfonyl-containing compounds through a catalyst-free aqueous-phase hydrosulfonylation of alkenes and alkynes with sulfonyl chlorides under visible light irradiation is presented. Unactivated alkenes, electron-deficient alkenes, alkyl and aryl alkynes can be hydrosulfonylated with various sulfonyl chlorides at room temperature with excellent yields and geometric selectivities by using tris(trimethylsilyl)silane as a hydrogen atom donor and silyl radical precursor to activate sulfonyl chlorides. Mechanistic studies revealed that the photolysis of tris(trimethylsilyl)silane in aqueous solution to produce silyl radical is crucial for the success of this reaction.

Photoredox-Catalyzed Acylchlorination of α-CF3 Alkenes with Acyl Chloride and Application as Masked Access to β-CF3-enones

We disclose a photocatalytic strategy that simultaneously addresses the construction of trifluoromethylated quaternary carbon centers and the preparation of β-CF3-enones through radical difunctionalization of α-CF3 alkenes with acyl chlorides. This method is characterized by its broad functional group compatibility, high efficiency, and atom economy. The versatility of this transformation is poised to broaden the applications of α-CF3 alkenes, providing new pathways for the rapid assembly of structurally diverse fluorinated compounds.

Fe-Catalyzed Alkylazidation of α-Trifluoromethylalkenes: An Access to Quaternary Stereocenters Containing CF3 and N3 Groups

A concise Fe-catalyzed alkylazidation of α-trifluoromethylalkenes via a C-C bond cleavage/radical addition/azidation cascade is described. This protocol features a broad substrate scope, excellent functional group compatibility, and the ability to be performed on a gram scale, thus offering a practical and step-economic approach to the synthetically useful tertiary α-trifluoromethyl azides.

Fe-catalyzed hydroxytrifluoromethylation of α-(trifluoromethyl)styrenes with CF3SO2Na: facile access to α,β-bistrifluoromethyl tertiary alcohols

A mild and practical Fe-catalyzed hydroxytrifluoromethylation of α-(trifluoromethyl)styrenes with CF₃SO₂Na in the presence of K₂S₂O₈ and air was developed. The reaction proceeded efficiently at room temperature without β-fluoride elimination and afforded the corresponding α,β-bistrifluoromethyl tertiary alcohols in good to excellent yields.

Copper(I)-Catalyzed Three-Component Selenosulfonation of Maleimides with Sulfonyl Hydrazides and Diselenides via Radical Relay

By employing Cu(CH₃CN)₄PF₆ as the catalyst and tert-butyl hydroperoxide as the oxidant, we realized a three-component radical selenosulfonation of substituted maleimides, sulfonyl hydrazides, and diphenyl diselenides, providing a series of 3,4-selenosulfonylated succinimides in moderate to good yields. This reaction features broad substrate scopes, high functional-group tolerability, and feasibility of gram-scale synthesis, enabling one-step construction of C-SO₂ and C-Se bonds under mild reaction conditions. Preliminary mechanistic studies support the free-radical-induced pathway.

This practical protocol provided a robust method for the synthesis of various β-trifluoromethyl nitrogen-containing heterocycles and β-trifluoromethyl amines.
