Abstract
By incorporating tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin and bis(3,5-dicarboxyphenyl)pyridine into one single metal-organic framework (MOF), a multifunctional mixed-ligand Zn-MIX with large pores was obtained. Under visible-light irradiation, Zn-MIX exhibits high photocatalytic activity for the oxidation of amines and sulfides.

Abstract
A well-performing machine learning (ML) model is obtained by using proper descriptors and artificial neural network (ANN) algorithms, which can quickly and accurately predict activation free energy in hydrogen atom transfer (HAT)-based sp3 C-H activation. Density functional theory calculations (UωB97X-D) are used to establish the reaction system data sets of methoxyl (CH3O·), trifluoroethoxyl (CF3CH2O·), tert-butoxyl (tBuO·), and cumyloxyl (CumO·) radicals. The simplified Roberts' equation proposed in our recent study works here [R 2 = 0.84, mean absolute error (MAE) = 0.85 kcal/mol]. Its performance is comparable with univariate Mulliken-type electronegativity (χ) with the ANN model. The ANN model with bond dissociation free energy, χ, α-unsaturation, and Nolan buried volume (%V buried) successively improves R 2 and MAE to 0.93 and 0.54 kcal/mol, respectively. It reproduces the test sets of trichloroethoxyl (CCl3CH2O·) with R 2 = 0.87 and MAE = 0.89 kcal/mol and accurately predicts the relative experimental barrier of the HAT reactions with CumO· and the site selectivity of CH3O·.

Abstract
Xanthene dyes as a class of ideal organic homogeneous photocatalyst have received significant attention in C-H bond activation; however, the inherent nature of fast carrier recombination/deactivation and low stability limits their practical applications. Herein, by the ingenious decoration of eosin Y into a porous metal-organic framework (MOF), a high-performance heterogeneous MOF-based photocatalyst was prepared to efficiently activate inert C-H bonds on the reactants via the hydrogen atom transfer pathway for the functionalization of the C-H bonds. Taking advantage of the fixation effect of a rigid framework, the incorporation of eosin Y into MOF leads to great enhancement of their chemical durability. More importantly, by the introduction of the second auxiliary ligand, the carbonyl groups of xanthene on the eosin Y dyes were perfectly retained and periodically aligned within the confined channels of this rigid framework, which could effectively form excited state radicals to prompt inert C-H bond activation, promoting reaction efficiency by the host-guest supramolecular interaction. New eosin Y-based MOFs were recyclable for six times without reducing photocatalytic activity. This eosin Y functionalized MOF-based heterogeneous photocatalytic system provides an availably catalytic avenue to develop a scalable and sustainable synthetic strategy for the practical application of organic dyes.

Abstract
Density functional theory calculations (ωB97X-D) are reported for the reactions of methoxy, tert-butoxy, trichloroethoxy, and trifluoroethoxy radicals with a series of 26 C-H bonds in different environments characteristic of a variety of hydrocarbons and substituted derivatives. The variations in activation barriers are analyzed with modified Evans-Polanyi treatments to account for polarity and unsaturation effects. The treatments by Roberts and Steel and by Mayer have inspired the development of a simple treatment involving the thermodynamics of reactions, the difference between the reactant radical and product radical electronegativities, and the absence or presence of α-unsaturation. The three-parameter equation (ΔH⧧ = 0.52ΔHrxn(1 - d) - 0.35ΔχAB2 + 10.0, where d = 0.44 when there is α-unsaturation to the reacting C-H bond), correlates well with quantum mechanically computed barriers and shows the quantitative importance of the thermodynamics of reactions (dictated by the reactant and the product bond dissociation energies) and polar effects.

Abstract
Cuprous clusters are well known for their important fluorescent properties and tunable redox behavior, but the coordinated protecting groups restrict their application in photocatalysis, in particular, the inner-sphere activation of substrates. By modifying fluorescent cuprous clusters with terminal iodides into two-dimensional coordination sheets, we report a photocatalytic regulator to synergistically combine electron transfer and energy transfer for the oxidative coupling of benzoquinone and terminal alkynes. Under visible light irradiation, the well-modified excited state of the cuprous clusters in the coordination sheets reduces benzoquinones to generate aoxy radicals through electron transfer and activates oxygen through energy transfer. The aoxy radicals interact with copper-coordinated phenylacetylene to form an active intermediate, which is further oxidized by the in situ formed active oxygen species and aryl ketones are obtained. The warranted potential of the excited coordination sheets enables the reductive activation of thianthrenium salts as radical precursors, facilitating radical capture and further C-N coupling via an inner-sphere activation mechanism. The new catalytic approach optimizes the redox properties and excited-state lifetime, shortens the electron transfer steps, and promotes the potential collision of a low concentration of active species in tandem catalytic cycles, thus paving a new way to develop ecologically benign, cost-effective, multipurpose, and flexible catalytic systems.
