Abstract
We report on the synthesis of two new threaded BODIPYs 5 and 6 in good yields using boron as a gathering atom and a macrocycle with a 2,2'-biphenol unit. In addition to usual techniques, they were characterized by X-ray crystallography. Their electrochemical and optical properties were investigated. In particular, both compounds are highly emissive with photoluminescence quantum yields of 54 and 81 % respectively. In addition, they both show a high photostability.

Abstract
Two BODIPYs and two boron β-diketonates were threaded through a macrocycle bearing a 2,2'-biphenol unit, showing thus the ability of boron to act as a gathering atom. The new threaded species were characterized by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy as well as by X-ray crystallography for one of them and their properties rationalized with quantum chemistry to unravel the vibronic contributions. The BODIPYs exhibited interesting fluorescence features with quantum yields up to 91 % and enhanced photostability compared to their non-threaded homologues. A rotaxane was synthesized using this threading strategy after stoppering and removing the boron with potassium hydroxide.

Abstract
An efficient procedure is presented for functionalization of BODIPYs at boron with arylstannanes as weak nucleophiles in the presence of aluminum chloride, providing new aryl-boron-substituted BODIPY and aza-BODIPY derivatives of singular importance. Most of these aryl-boron-substituted BODIPYs showed bright emission in the aqueous solution with significant aggregation-induced emission enhancement and high solid-state emission as a result of the restricted rotation of the meso-phenyl group and boron-substituted aryl groups as well as the formation of J-type aggregates.

Abstract
Synthetic cathinones are a class of new psychoactive substances whose consumption has increased a lot and is widespread throughout the world. Thus, there is currently a need for rapid and simple detection of these drugs. In particular, detection of synthetic cathinones in oral fluid in drivers can be of great importance in preventing traffic accidents. Herein, we report two probes, based on BODIPY derivatives combined with Cu(ii), which are able to detect these drugs both in water and in oral fluid, by changes in color and fluorescence. The determined limits of detection for ephedrone (as a model drug) are lower than the usual concentrations in saliva after intake of this type of drug. The sensing mechanism seems to be related to the cathinone induced reduction of Cu(ii) to Cu(i) with concomitants changes in the BODIPY structure.
