Phosphorus vacancy-engineered Ce-doped CoP nanosheets for the electrocatalytic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural

Ce-doped copper oxide and copper vanadate Cu3VO4 hybrid for boosting nitrate electroreduction to ammonia

The electrocatalytic nitrate reduction to ammonia reaction (ENO3RR) holds great potential as a cost-effective method for synthesizing ammonia. This work designed a cerium (Ce) doped Cu2+1O/Cu3VO4 catalyst. The coupling of vanadium-based oxides with Cu2+1O effectively adjusts the catalyst's electronic structure, addressing the inherent issues of limited activity and low conductivity in typical copper-based oxides; moreover, Ce doping generates oxygen vacancies (Ov), providing more active sites and thereby enhancing the ENO3RR performance. The catalyst exhibits superior NH3Faradaic efficiency (93.7 %) with a NH3 yield of 18.905 mg h-1 cm-2at -0.5 V vs. RHE under alkaline conditions. This study provides guidance for the design of highly efficient catalysts for ENO3RR.

Laser Promoting Oxygen Vacancies Generation in Alloy via Mo for HMF Electrochemical Oxidation

It is well known that nickel-based catalysts have high electrocatalytic activity for the 5-hydroxymethylfurfural oxidation reaction (HMFOR), and NiOOH is the main active component. However, the price of nickel and the catalyst's lifetime still need to be solved. In this work, NiOOH containing oxygen vacancies is formed on the surface of Ni alloy by UV laser (1J85-laser). X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) analyses indicate an interaction between Mo and Ni, which affects the coordination environment of Ni with oxygen. The chemical valence of Ni is between 0 and 2, indicating the generation of oxygen vacancies. Density functional theory (DFT) suggests that Mo can increase the defect energy and form more oxygen vacancies. In situ Raman electrochemical spectroscopy shows that Mo can promote the formation of NiOOH, thus enhancing the HMFOR activity. The 1J85-laser electrode shows a longer electrocatalytic lifetime than Ni-laser. After 15 cycles, the conversion of HMF is 95.92%.

Engineering Rich Active Sites and Efficient Water Dissociation for Ni-Doped MoS2/CoS2 Hierarchical Structures toward Excellent Alkaline Hydrogen Evolution

Besides improving charge transfer, there are two key factors, such as increasing active sites and promoting water dissociation, to be deeply investigated to realize high-performance MoS₂-based electrocatalysts in alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, we have demonstrated the synergistic engineering to realize rich unsaturated sulfur atoms and activated O-H bonds toward the water for Ni-doped MoS₂/CoS₂ hierarchical structures by an approach to Ni doping coupled with in situ sulfurizing for excellent alkaline HER. In this work, the Ni-doped atoms are evolved into Ni(OH)₂ during alkaline HER. Interestingly, the extra unsaturated sulfur atoms will be modulated into MoS₂ nanosheets by breaking Ni-S bonds during the formation of Ni(OH)₂. On the other hand, the higher the mass of the Ni precursor (m_Ni) for the fabrication of our samples, the more Ni(OH)₂ is evolved, indicating a stronger ability for water dissociation of our samples during alkaline HER. Our results further reveal that regulating m_Ni is crucial to the HER activity of the as-synthesized samples. By regulating m_Ni to 0.300 g, a balance between increasing active sites and promoting water dissociation is achieved for the Ni-doped MoS₂/CoS₂ samples to boost alkaline HER. Consequently, the optimal samples present the highest HER activity among all counterparts, accompanied by reliable long-term stability. This work will promise important applications in the field of electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution in alkaline environments.
