Sn(II)-doped one-dimensional hybrid metal halide [C5H14NO]CdCl3 single crystals with broadband greenish-yellow light emission

Temperature-Induced Reversible Photoluminescence Switching and Ultraviolet-Pumped Light-Emitting Diode Applications of a Perovskite (C6H10N2)2MnCl6·2H2O Crystal

Zero-dimensional (0D) organic-inorganic hybrid halides present many fascinating photophysical properties for promising optoelectronic applications such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs), X-ray imaging, photodetectors, and anticounterfeiting. Herein, a centimeter-sized single crystal (C6H10N2)2MnCl6·2H2O with a 0D perovskite structure was obtained via a solvent evaporation method. A bright red emission at 618 nm with a larger Stokes shift of more than 300 nm and a long fluorescence lifetime of 6.21 ms were measured. Notably, a reversible PL switching from red emission to nonluminescence has been presented in the cycles of heating-cooling processes from RT to 100 °C. Furthermore, the temperature-induced luminescence shows a quick recovery after 20 conversion cycles, exhibiting excellent stability and temperature sensing. According to the structural and theoretical analyses, the temperature-induced luminescence is primarily due to hydrogen-bonding interactions between (MnCl6)4- and H2O molecules. Particularly, a temperature anticounterfeiting application has been designed based on its reversible temperature-dependent PL switching. Importantly, the ultraviolet-pumped LEDs fabricated by (C6H10N2)2MnCl6·2H2O single crystals are perfectly achieved. Anyway, this work clearly demonstrates that 0D Mn-based perovskite with temperature-dependent PL switching greatly extends its potential applications in electro-optical display, temperature sensing, and anticounterfeiting devices.

Synthesis and structure-dependent optical properties of two new organic-inorganic hybrid antimony(III) chlorides

Two organic-inorganic hybrid antimony(III) chlorides, namely (C9H26N3)2Sb4Cl18 (1) and (C9H26N3)SbCl6 (2), were prepared using a facile solvent evaporation method. They have low-dimensional structures constructed from SbCl6 octahedra and triply protonated N,N,N',N'',N''-pentamethyldiethylenetriamine cations. The organic cations exhibit different conformations in the two compounds. Compound 1 crystallizes in the centrosymmetric space group P1̄, while compound 2 crystallizes in the noncentrosymmetric space group Pca21. Notably, compound 2 exhibits a moderate second harmonic generation (SHG) response of about 1.3 times that of KH2PO4 (KDP) under 1064 nm laser irradiation. Meanwhile, this compound displays green-yellow luminescence under 342 nm ultraviolet light irradiation, indicating its potential as a bifunctional optical material. Theoretical calculations based on density functional theory were also performed to gain insights into the correlation between their structures and optical properties.

From H12C4N2CdI4 to H11C4N2CdI3: a highly polarizable CdNI3 tetrahedron induced a sharp enhancement of second harmonic generation response and birefringence

In this study, we identify a novel class of second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals, non-π-conjugated piperazine (H10C4N2, PIP) metal halides, represented by two centimeter-sized, noncentrosymmetric organic-inorganic metal halides (OIMHs), namely H12C4N2CdI4 (P212121) and H11C4N2CdI3 (Cc). H12C4N2CdI4 is the first to be prepared, and its structure contains a CdI4 tetrahedron, which led to a poor NLO performance, including a weak and non-phase-matchable second harmonic generation (SHG) response of 0.5 × KH2PO4 (KDP), a small birefringence of 0.047 @1064 nm and a narrow bandgap of 3.86 eV. Moreover, H12C4N2CdI4 is regarded as the model compound, and we further obtain H11C4N2CdI3via the replacement of CdI4 with a highly polarizable CdNI3 tetrahedron, which results in a sharp enhancement of SHG response and birefringence. H11C4N2CdI3 exhibits a promising NLO performance including 6 × KDP, 4.10 eV, Δn = 0.074 @1064 nm and phase matchability, indicating that it is the first OIMH to simultaneously exhibit strong SHG response (>5 × KDP) and a wide bandgap (>4.0 eV). Our work presents a novel direction for designing high-performance NLO crystals based on organic-inorganic halides and provides important insights into the role of the hybridized tetrahedron in enhancing the SHG response and birefringence.

Enhanced stability and tunable photoluminescence in Mn2+-doped one-dimensional hybrid lead halide perovskites for high-performance white light emitting diodes

Organic-inorganic hybrid low-dimensional lead halides have garnered significant interest in the realm of solid-state optical materials due to their unique properties and potential applications. In this study, we report the synthesis, characterization and application of Mn²⁺-doped one-dimensional (1D) [AEP]PbCl₅·H₂O hybrid lead halide perovskites with tunable photoluminescence properties. The Mn²⁺ doping leads to a redshift of the dominant emission wavelength from 463 nm to 630 nm, with the optimal doping concentration resulting in an enhanced photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) from less than 1% to 8.96%. The structural and optical stability of these doped perovskites have been thoroughly investigated revealing excellent performance under humid and high-temperature conditions. Perovskite-PVP composite films exhibit high crystallization and bright orange-red emission under UV excitation. Furthermore, we demonstrate the successful fabrication of a white LED device using the Mn²⁺-doped perovskite in combination with commercial green and blue phosphors. The fabricated LED exhibits a high color rendering index (CRI) of 87.2 and stable electroluminescence performance under various operating currents and extended operation times. Our findings highlight the potential of Mn²⁺-doped 1D hybrid lead halide perovskites as efficient and stable phosphors for high-performance white light emitting diodes and other optoelectronic applications.
