Circularly polarized luminescence in quantum dot-based materials

Quantum dots (QDs) have emerged as fantastic luminescent nanomaterials with significant potential due to their unique photoluminescence properties. With the rapid development of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) materials, many researchers have associated QDs with the CPL property, resulting in numerous novel CPL-active QD-containing materials in recent years. The present work reviews the latest advances in CPL-active QD-based materials, which are classified based on the types of QDs, including perovskite QDs, carbon dots, and colloidal semiconductor QDs. The applications of CPL-active QD-based materials in biological, optoelectronic, and anti-counterfeiting fields are also discussed. Additionally, the current challenges and future perspectives in this field are summarized. This review article is expected to stimulate more unprecedented achievements based on CPL-active QD-based materials, thus further promoting their future practical applications.

Rational design of α-MnO2/HT-GCN nanocomposite for effective photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin and pernicious activity

The present study is mainly concerned with the development of cost-efficient composite material utilized to produce one-dimensional manganese oxide (α-MnO2) nanoparticles coated on two-dimensional graphitic carbon nitrides (HT-GCN) as nanocomposite (α-MnO2/HT-GCN) for highly efficient CIP degradation. The α-MnO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared by a simple hydrothermal technique before being decorated on HT-GCN (H denotes protonation and T represents thermal-decomposition-graphitic carbon nitride). Tauc plots were used to calculate the band gap values of the photocatalysts α-MnO2 (1.74 eV), GCN (2.84 eV), HT-GCN (2.63 eV), and α-MnO2/HT-GCN (2.31 eV). The mechanism was investigated by various scavengers, particularly isopropanol (•OH) makes a significant role in the photodegradation process. The degradation percentage for ciprofloxacin was 89.2% and the rate of reaction R2 = 0.9913. This study demonstrates a unique method for developing a heterojunction-based nanocomposite of α-MnO2/HT-GCN, which exhibit better light absorption performance.

Insight into the differences in carbon dots prepared from fish scales using conventional hydrothermal and microwave methods

The preparation of carbon dots (CDs) from waste fish scales is an attractive and high-value transformation. In this study, fish scales were used as a precursor to prepare CDs, and the effects of hydrothermal and microwave methods on their fluorescence properties and structures were evaluated. The microwave method was more conducive to the self-doping of nitrogen due to rapid and uniform heating. However, the low temperature associated with the microwave method resulted in insufficient dissolution of the organic matter in the fish scales, resulting in incomplete dehydration and condensation and the formation of nanosheet-like CDs, whose emission behavior had no significant correlation with excitation. Although the CDs prepared using the conventional hydrothermal method showed lower nitrogen doping, the relative pyrrolic nitrogen content was higher, which was beneficial in improving their quantum yield. Additionally, the controllable high temperature and sealed environment used in the conventional hydrothermal method promoted dehydration and condensation of the organic matter in the fish scales to form CDs with a higher degree of carbonization, uniform size, and higher C = O/COOH content. CDs prepared using the conventional hydrothermal method exhibited higher quantum yields and excitation wavelength-dependent emission behavior.

Multiplex heteroatoms doped carbon nano dots with enhanced catalytic reduction of ionic dyes and QR code security label for anti-spurious applications

Herein, a simple hydrothermal approach was used to make multiplex heteroatoms doped carbon dots from Tinospora cordifolia miers plant extract. Their ability to the catalytic activity of dyes and anti-spurious applications was evaluated. The formation of NBCNDs and source of (T. cordifolia miers) study the optical properties, and functional groups are investigated using UV-Visible spectroscopy and FT-IR techniques. The synthesized NBCNDs structure and elemental compositions were examined via HR-TEM, XRD, and XPS, respectively. According to the HRTEM images, the average particle size of the NBCNDs was around 4.3± 1 nm, with d-spacing of 0.19 nm. The obtained NBCNDs were exposed under 395 nm UV light to emit bluish-green tuneable fluorescence with QY (quantum yield) of 23.7%. The prepared NBCNDs as a potential catalyst for the AYR and CV dye reduction process using freshly prepared NaBH₄, with determined rate constant values at 0.1220 and 0.1521 min^-1, respectively. Lastly, we constructed a quick response (QR) code security label for anti-spurious applications using stencil techniques. The "confidential info" was encrypted using a QR code digital system, and the decryption was read using a smartphone under 365 nm light irradiation.
