Abstract
A practical and efficient method to access polysubstituted aryl sulfides has been discovered via a Lewis acid-catalyzed reaction between alkynyl sulfide and 2-pyrone, involving a Diels-Alder/retro-Diels-Alder pathway. Alkynyl sulfide as an electron-rich dienophile and 2-pyrones as electron-poor dienes are conjunctively transformed into a series of polysubstituted aryl sulfides with broad functional group compatibility in good to excellent yields (40 examples, 43-88% yield). The robustness and practicality of the protocol has been demonstrated through gram-scale synthesis and the ease of transformation of the resulting products.

Abstract
We developed the visible-light-induced hydrodesulfurization of alkyl aryl thioethers via the reductive cleavage of the C(aryl)-S bond using 1-hydroxypyrene as a Brønsted acid-reductant bifunctional photocatalyst. The hydrodesulfurization reaction proceeded under simple reaction conditions (1-hydroxypyrene and Et3N in THF under purple LED illumination); this reaction did not require chemicals commonly used for hydrodesulfurization, such as hydrosilanes, transition metal catalysts, and/or stoichiometric amounts of metal reagents. Detailed mechanistic studies based on control experiments, spectroscopic measurements, and computational studies revealed that the cleavage of the C(aryl)-S bond and the formation of the C(aryl)-H bond proceeded via the formation of the ion pair between the radical anion of alkyl aryl thioether and Et3N+H, resulting in the generation of a sulfur radical. In addition, the 1-hydroxypyrene catalyst was regenerated via hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) from Et3N.

Abstract
N-heterocycles are ubiquitous in natural products, pharmaceuticals, organic materials, and numerous functional molecules. Among the current synthetic approaches, transition metal-catalyzed C–H functionalization has gained considerable attention in recent years due to its advantages of simplicity, high atomic economy, and the ready availability of starting materials. In the field of N-heterocycle synthesis via C–H functionalization, nickel has been recognized as one of the most important catalysts. In this review, we will introduce nickel-catalyzed intramolecular and intermolecular pathways for N-heterocycle synthesis from 2008 to 2021.

Abstract
A Cu-catalyzed regioselective C5-H arylation of imidazo[1,5-a]pyridines with aryl iodides was achieved with the assistance of an ethylthio group at the C3 position. This directing group could be easily removed to furnish a range of 5-(hetero)arylimidazo[1,5-a]pyridine derivatives. The reaction tolerates a variety of functionalities and is compatible with sterically hindered substrates.
