Stereoselective formation of boron-stereogenic organoboron derivatives

Modular enantioselective assembly of multi-substituted boron-stereogenic BODIPYs

Boron dipyrromethenes (BODIPYs) are some of the most popular and indispensable tetracoordinate boron compounds and have found widespread applications owing to their excellent spectroscopic and photophysical properties. BODIPYs possessing boron-stereogenic centres are scarce, and strategies for the synthesis of enantioenriched boron-stereogenic BODIPYs with structural diversity remain underdeveloped. In theory, the BODIPY core skeleton has several sites that could be decorated with different substituents. However, due to the lack of general and efficient asymmetric synthetic methods, this potential diversity of chiral BODIPYs has not been exploited. Here we demonstrate a modular enantioselective assembly of multi-substituted boron-stereogenic BODIPYs in high efficiency with excellent enantioselectivities. Key to the success is the Pd-catalysed desymmetric Suzuki cross-coupling, enabling the precise discrimination of the two α C-Cl bonds of the designed prochiral BODIPY scaffold, giving access to a wide range of highly functionalized boron-stereogenic BODIPYs. Derivatizations, photophysical properties and applications in chiral recognition of the obtained optical BODIPYs are further explored.

Transition metal-catalyzed transformations of 2-formylarylboronic acids

2-Formylarylboronic acids are easily available precursors in organic chemistry. Different types of transition metal catalysts, such as Pd(0), Pd(II), Rh(I), Ir(I), Ni(II), Cu(I), Cu(II), and Co(II), can efficiently catalyze coupling reactions of 2-formylarylboronic acids with other organic reactants. In this review, we describe the synthesis of a diverse range of carbocyclic and heterocyclic compounds, as well as acyclic compounds, via transition metal-catalyzed reactions of 2-formylarylboronic acids over the past two decades.

Synthesis of chiral boranes via asymmetric insertion of carbenes into B-H bonds catalyzed by the rhodium(I) diene complex

Molecules with chiral boron atoms have been scarcely studied due to limited synthetic access. Herein, we report a new method for their synthesis via asymmetric insertion of arydiazoacetates into the B-H bonds of prochiral carbene-boranes NHC-BH2R. The reaction is catalyzed by the rhodium(I) complex with the chiral diene ligand tBu2-TFB, which can be conveniently prepared by diastereoselective coordination of the racemic diene with (S-Salox)Rh(CO)2. The target boranes were typically obtained in 75-90% yields with 90-95% ee.

Interfacially Confined Dynamic Reaction Resulted to Fluorescent Nanofilms Depicting High-Performance Ammonia Sensing

Sensing materials innovation plays a crucial role in the development of high-performance film-based fluorescent sensors (FFSs). In our current study, we present the innovative fabrication of four fluorescent nanofilms via interfacially confined dynamic reaction of a specially designed fluorescent building block, a new boron-coordinated compound (NI-CHO), with a chosen one, benzene-1,3,5-tricarbohydrazide (BTH). The nanofilms as prepared are robust, uniform, flexible, and thickness tunable, at least from 40 to 1500 nm. The fabricated FFSs based on Film 3, one of the four nanofilms, shows highly selective and fully reversible response to NH3 vapor with an experimental detection limit of <0.1 ppm and a response time of 0.2 s. The unprecedented high performance of the nanofilm is ascribed to the specific quenching of its fluorescence emission owing to formation of an excited-state complex between the sensing unit and the analyte molecule. Efficient mass transfer also contributes to the high performance owing to the porous adlayer structure of the nanofilm. This work provides an example to show how to develop a high-performance sensing film via controlling the film's structure, especially the thickness.

Steroids Bearing Heteroatom as Potential Drugs for Medicine
