Abstract
Three, PO4 3-/HPO4 2- and AsO4 3--incorporated, new tetranuclear complexes of copper(II) and zinc(II) ions have been synthesized and fully characterized. In methanol-water, reactions of H3cpdp (H3cpdp = N,N'-Bis[2-carboxybenzomethyl]-N,N'-Bis[2-pyridylmethyl]-1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol) with copper(II) chloride in the presence of either NaOH/Na2HPO4·2H2O or KOH/Na2HAsO4·7H2O lead to the isolation of the tetranuclear complexes Na3[Cu4(cpdp)2(μ4-PO4)](OH)2·14H2O (1) and K2[Cu4(cpdp)2(μ4-AsO4)](OH)·162/3H2O (2), respectively. Similarly, the reaction of H3cpdp with zinc(II) chloride in the presence of NaOH/Na2HPO4·2H2O yields a tetranuclear complex, Na(H3O)2[Zn4(cpdp)2(μ4-HPO4)]Cl3·121/2H2O (3). All complexes are characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and other analytical techniques, such as Fourier transform infrared and UV-vis spectroscopy, thermogravimetric and electrochemical studies. The solid-state molecular framework of each complex contains two monocationic [M2(cpdp)]+ (M = Cu, Zn) units, which are exclusively coordinated to either phosphate/hydrogen phosphate or arsenate groups in a unique mode. All three complexes exhibit a μ4:η1:η1:η1:η1 bridging mode of the PO4 3-/HPO4 2-/AsO4 3- groups, with each bridging among four metal ions. The thermal properties of all three complexes have been investigated by thermogravimetric analysis. Low-temperature magnetic studies of complexes 1 and 2 disclose moderate antiferromagnetic interactions mediated among the copper centers through alkoxide and phosphate/arsenate bridges. Electrochemical studies of complexes 1 and 2 in dimethylformamide using cyclic voltammetry reveal the presence of a fairly assessable one-electron metal-based irreversible reduction and one quasireversible oxidation couple.

Abstract
The first coordination compounds of 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylate anion (butca4-) of the formula [M2(butca)(H2O)5]n.2nH2O [M=Mn(II) (1), Co(II) (2), and Ni(II) (3)] were prepared and their X-ray crystal structures and magnetic properties investigated. The three complexes have a very similar two-dimensional structure which consists of (4,4) networks, 1 and 2 being isostructural. The tetracarboxylate ligand acts as a 4-fold connector leading to two-dimensional (4,4) networks of metal atoms, this topology being possible because of its planar conformation. The nodes of these networks are formed by dinuclear motifs which exhibit the unusual (mu-aqua)bis(mu-carboxylate) bridging unit which is analogous to that observed in some molecules of biological interest. The variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements of 1-3 show that 1 and 2 are antiferromagnetically coupled systems whereas 3 exhibits a ferromagnetic behavior. The analysis of the magnetic data of 1-3 through a simple dinuclear model allowed the determination of the values of the magnetic coupling (J) -3.6 (1), -1.2 (2), and +1.47 cm(-1) (3) with the Hamiltonian being defined as H=-JSA.SB. The countercomplementarity between the two bridges (aqua and syn-syn carboxylate) accounts for the trend exhibited by the values of the magnetic coupling in this family.

Abstract
A novel polymeric one-dimensional compound Cu(tn)Cl2 (tn = 1,3-diaminopropane) was prepared and structurally characterized, and its spectral, magnetic, thermodynamic, and thermal properties were studied. The unique structure shows ladderlike chains composed of Cu(II) atoms and chloro bridging ligands [Cu(-mu(3)-Cl-)Cu2] running along the crystallographic c axis. The coordination geometry about copper (4 + 2) approximates that of a strongly elongated octahedron. The equatorial plane of the coordination octahedron is formed by a chelate N-bonded tn ligand and two chloro ligands. One of the chloro ligands is terminal, and the other one, mu3-Cl-, forms two additional longer bonds to the neighboring copper atoms and thus occupies the axial octahedral positions. The electronic ground state of the Cu(II) ion is of d(z)2 symmetry and suggests the activation of intraladder and interladder Cl...H-N hydrogen bonds as exchange paths that form a two-dimensional pattern of a triangular symmetry. The interaction due to the hydrogen bonds seems to play an important role in molecular packing and magnetic coupling. The studies of magneto-structural correlations including electron paramagnetic resonance measurements and thermodynamic and magnetic properties revealed a two-dimensional character of magnetic correlations with the effective intralayer exchange coupling J/k(B) approximately -3 K. No phase transition to the ordered state has been observed down to 60 mK. Cu(tn)Cl2 with the interlayer coupling J' approximately 10(-3)J and moderate intralayer interaction represents an excellent example of a two-dimensional magnetic system.

Abstract
The syntheses, characterization and X-ray crystal structures of the first two examples of asymmetrically bridged dinuclear copper(ii) complexes containing a ferrocenecarboxylato ligand and a methoxo group in [{Cu(dmen)}2(micro-OMe){micro-O2C(eta5-C5H4)Fe(eta5-C5H5)}](ClO4)2, 1, (dmen=N,N-dimethylethylenediamine) or an hydroxo group in [{Cu(tmen)}2(micro-OH){micro-O2C(eta5-C5H4)Fe(eta5-C5H5)}](ClO4)2, 2 , (tmen=N,N,N'N'-tetramethylethylenediamine) are reported. Magneto-chemical studies revealed that 1 and 2 exhibit opposite superexchange interactions between the two Cu(II) paramagnetic centers: an antiferromagnetic coupling (J = -11 cm(-1)) in 1 and a ferromagnetic interaction (J = +29 cm(-1)) in 2. The results obtained from these studies suggest that the weak interactions between the Cu(II) ions and the perchlorate anions detected in the crystal structures are important to introduce significant distortions in the heterobridged [Cu2(micro-OR){micro-O2C(eta5-C5H4)Fe(eta5-C5H5)}]2+ cores of 1 and 2, which clearly affect the nature and strength of the superexchange interactions. Computational studies based on density functional theory and ab initio multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2) calculations have also been performed in order to rationalize the magnetic behaviour of 1 and 2. The magneto-structural correlations for complexes containing the [Cu(micro-OR)(micro-O2CR')Cu] core are discussed, and the relevance of the out-of-plane angle of the R group with the Cu(micro-OR)Cu plane established.

Abstract
A novel mu-pyrazolato-mu-hydroxo-dibridged copper(II) complex has been synthesized and structurally characterized: [(Cu(mepirizole)Br)2(mu-OH)(mu-pz)] (mepirizole=4-methoxy-2-(5-methoxy-3-methyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-6-methylpyrimidine; pz=pyrazolate). The title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/c, with a=15.618(2) A, b=15.369(3) A, c=16.071(3) A, and beta=112.250(1) degrees. The structure is built up of dinuclear [(Cu(mepirizole)Br)2(mu-OH)(mu-pz)] units with five-coordinated copper(II) ions (CuBrN3O chromophores) linked by mu2-OH and mu2-pyrazolato bridges that are well separated from each others. The intramolecular copper-copper distance is 3.378(3) A. Magnetic susceptibility data show that the copper atoms are strongly antiferromagnetically coupled with J=-770 cm(-1). The obtained triplet-singlet energy gap is compared with those reported for a series of related dimers. The strong antiferromagnetic coupling arising from the complementarity of the hydroxo and pyrazolato bridges has been discussed on the basis of DFT calculations.

Syntheses, structures, and magnetic properties of two heterobridged mu-alkoxo-mu-7-azaindolate dicopper(II) complexes, [Cu(II)2(L-F)(mu-C7H5N2)] (1) and [Cu(II)2(L-H)(mu-C7H5N2)].CH3OH (2) (H3L-F = 1,3-bis(3-fluorosalicylideneamino)-2-propanol; H3L-H = 1,3-bis(salicylideneamino)-2-propanol) have been reported. Aside from being a new type of heterobridged complex, 1 and 2 exhibit ferromagnetic interaction (2J = 52 cm(-1) for 1 and 33.4 cm(-1) for 2) despite orbital complementarity (7-azaindolate HOMO is antisymmetric).
