Abstract
The synthesis, antimicrobial activity evaluations, biomolecule-binding properties (DNA), and absorption and emission properties of a new series of (Z)-1,1,1-trichloro-4-alkyl(aryl)amino-4-arylbut-3-en-2-ones (4, 5) and 2,2-difluoro-3-alkyl(aryl)amino-4-aryl-6-(trichloromethyl)-2H-1,3,2-oxazaborinin-3-ium-2-uides (6, 7) in which 3(4)-alkyl(aryl) = H, Me, iso-propyl, n-butyl, C6H5, 4-CH3C6H4, 4-CH3OC6H4, 4-NO2C6H4, 4-FC6H4, 4-BrC6H4, 2-naphthyl, is reported. A series of β-enaminoketones (4, 5) is synthesized from the O,N-exchange reaction of some amines (3) with (Z)-1,1,1-trichloro-4-methoxy-4-aryl-but-3-en-2-ones (1, 2) at 61-90% yields. Subsequently, reactions of the resulting β-enaminoketones with an appropriate source of boron (BF3.OEt2) gave the corresponding oxazaborinine derivatives (6, 7) at 50-91% yields. UV-Vis and emission properties of biomolecule-binding properties for the DNA of these new BF2-β-enamino containing CCl3 units were also evaluated. Some compounds from the present series also exhibited potent antimicrobial effects on various pathogenic microorganisms at concentrations below those that showed cytotoxic effects. Compounds 4d, 4e, 6e, and 6f showed the best results and are very significant against P. zopfii, which causes diseases in humans and animals.

Abstract
A range of β-keto-γ-acetal enamides has been synthesized and transformed into the corresponding enantioenriched α-acetal-β'-amino ketones with enantioinductions of up to 99% by using rhodium/QuinoxP*-catalyzed enantioselective hydrogenation under mild conditions. This method also proved to be highly chemoselective toward the reduction of the C-C double bond.

Abstract
A simple and efficient method has been developed for stereoselective one-pot synthesis of ( E)-3-(4-arylpiperazin-1-yl)-1-arylprop-2-en-1-ones by condensation of aryl ketones with arylpiperazines and N, N-dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal in acetic acid with 54–69% yields. Compared with reported methods, this one-step procedure appears to be a useful approach to prepare ( E)-β-enaminoketones with good stereoselectivity, simple operation and moderate yields.

Abstract
The one-pot three-component reactions of 1,3-dimethylbarbituric acid, aromatic aldehydes and alkyl or aryl isocyanides proceed smoothly at room temperature to give the corresponding 5-aryl-6-alkyl or arylamino-1,3-dimethylfuro[2,3- d]pyrimidine-2,4(1 H,3 H)-dione derivatives in good to excellent yields within 30 minutes in DMF. This three-component reaction represents a facile and efficient route to the described biologically interesting molecules.

Abstract
Lycoperine A was synthesized through a highly convergent route in which a double alkylation of 2,6-dicyano-N-benzylpiperidine with the octahydroquinoline moiety gave the lycoperine skeleton. The octahydroquinoline was prepared by a desymmetrization reaction of 5-methylcyclohexane-1,3-dione. Hydrolysis, reductive amination, and cyclization gave lycoperine A in 13 steps and 3% overall yield. The absolute configuration of lycoperine A was assigned as 6R,6'R,8R,8'R,13S,17R.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] A 19-step stereoselective total synthesis of (+/-)-tangutorine is described here. The total synthesis features an intramolecular aza-[3 + 3] formal cycloaddition strategy and also a Heck coupling for constructing the C2-C3 bond. This work provides a novel approach toward the indoloquinolizidine family of alkaloids.

Abstract
We are seeking to discover potent CNS-active sulfonylureas with structural features that allow for the formation of several types of prodrugs. We report herein the syntheses of compounds comprising an initial series of hydroxyl-substituted analogues of the potent ATP-sensitive potassium channel blockers glyburide (glibenclamide) and gliquidone. Somewhat unexpectedly, several of the compounds were found to be comparably potent to glyburide as inhibitors of specific [(3)H]glyburide binding in rat brain preparations.
