Abstract
Recently the assessment of QTL genes has been a relevant focus of research. Among other genes, the RYR1 is one of the most important. Research on this gene for Landrace sows of Ukrainian selection has been insufficient. This fact confirms the need for our work. A total of 63 Landrace sows from different families were evaluated by reproductive qualities for two generations. A comprehensive assessment of the sows’ reproductive ability was performed using the SIRQS-index. Determination of polymorphism in the RYR1 gene in pigs was performed by using DNA-typing of animals. Genetic potential was calculated between two generations “mother-daughter”. By assessment of polymorphism of the RYR1 gene, it was found that 6.3% of the Landrace sows were the carriers for the mutant allele of the RYR1 gene. No animals with the RYR1nn genotype were detected. Accordingly, animals with the RYR1NN genotype accounted for 93.6%. The frequency of the N allele of the RYR1 gene was 0.97, the n frequency of the RYR1 gene allele was 0.03. Sows with RYR1NN genotype had a higher level of reproductive ability compared to the RYR1Nn genotype. RYR1NN genotype also had a higher level of genetic potential. The greatest progress was established between generations of Landrace sows which were carriers for the mutant allele. The highest values of this progress were by the NBA, the lowest – by the NW. On the contrary, there was regression between populations for part of the population (Landrace sows of Ukrainian selection of RYR1Nn genotype) by the all estimated indicators of reproductive ability. Sows that were free of the mutant allele of the RYR-1 gene had high SIRQS index. The phenotypic consolidation coefficients by the NBA were lower for sows free of the mutant allele than for its carrier. The advantage of sows free of the mutant allele of the RYR-1 gene over its carrier sows was established in almost all assessed indicators of reproductive ability. No significant differences in the level of consolidation of reproductive ability between sows with different allelic variants of the RYR-1 gene were established. The higher productive level of sows with RYR1NN genotype is reflected in the indicators of economic efficiency of production. It allows higher levels of profitability to be obtained and net profit to be increased by 1093 UAH compared to sows with RYR1Nn genotype. The further monitoring of the studied gene and the gradual elimination of carriers of the mutant allele is a promising direction in breeding work.

Abstract
Prolactin is a highly versatile pituitary hormone with multiple biological functions. PRL expression is regulated by POU1F1 and the prophet of POU1F1 (PROP1). The aim of this study was to investigate the indel variations in ovine PRL and the directly related (PROP1 and POU1F1) genes, and their associations with growth traits in Luxi Blackhead (LXBH) sheep. A monomorphism in PROP1 and POU1F1 genes, and one novel 23-bp insertion mutation in the PRL gene, were identified in LXBH sheep. The 23 bp insertion mutation within PRL gene was significantly associated with several body measurements (e.g., body weight, body height) in sheep of different ages (p < 0.05). Ram lambs (p = 0.036) of genotype insertion/insertion (II) had significantly higher body weights. Weaners (p = 0.018) of genotypes insertion/insertion (II) and insertion/deletion (ID) also had significantly higher body weights compared with male sheep of deletion/deletion (DD) genotype. Moreover, among ewe lambs, individuals of genotype insertion/insertion (II) had a higher paunch girth compared to those with other genotypes (p = 0.044). These findings indicate that a 23 bp indel variant of the ovine PRL gene is correlated with body measurements in LXBH sheep. The findings have potential utility for sheep breeding programs based on marker-assisted selection.

Abstract
The Chinese Erhualian pig has the highest record for litter size in the world. However, the genetic mechanism of its high prolificacy remains poorly understood. In our study, large phenotypic variations in litter size were found among Erhualian sows. Significant differences in total number born (TNB) and corpora lutea numbers were observed between sows with high and low estimated breeding values (EBVs) for TNB. To identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with TNB, a selective genomic scan was conducted on 18 sows representing the top 10% and 18 sows representing the bottom 10% of EBVs of 177 sows using Illumina Porcine SNP60 genotype data. Genome-wide fixation coefficient (FST ) values were calculated for each SNP between the high- and low-EBV groups. A total of 154 SNPs were significantly differentiated loci between the two groups. Of the top 10 highest FST SNPs, rs81399474, rs81400131 and rs81405013 on SSC8 and rs81434499 and rs81434489 on SSC 12 corresponded to previously reported QTL for litter size. The other five SNPs, rs81367039 on SSC2, rs80891106 on SSC7, rs81477883 on SSC12 and rs80938898 and rs80971725 on SSC14, appeared to be novel QTL for TNB. Significant associations between rs81399474 on SSC8 and TNB were confirmed in 313 Erhualian sows. Forty genes were identified around the top 10 highest FST SNPs, of which UCHL1, adjacent to rs81399474, and RPS6KB1 and CLTC, adjacent to rs81434499, have been reported to affect the ovulation rate in pig. The findings can advance understanding of the genetic variations in litter size of pigs.

Abstract
Candidate genes gonadotropin releasing hormone receptor (GNRHR), prolactin (PRL), prolactin receptor (PRLR), follicle-stimulating hormone beta (FSHB), luteinizing hormone beta (LHB), follistatin (FST), inhibin alpha (INHA), inhibin beta A (INHBA) and inhibin beta B (INHBB) were investigated for their association with sperm quality traits of sperm concentration (SCON), motility (MOT), semen volume per ejaculate (VOL), plasma droplets rate (PDR), abnormal sperm rate (ASR) and fertility traits of non return rate (NRR) and number of piglets born alive (NBA). The experimental material included 356 boars of Pietrain (PI) and Pietrain x Hampshire (PI x HA). Analysis of variance revealed significant association of GNRHR with MOT (P = 0.0161), PDR (P = 0.0048) and ASR (P = 0.0201), INHBA was found to have significant effects on PDR (P = 0.0318) and ASR (P = 0.0067), INHBB was significant (P = 0.0360) for SCON trait. FSHB, FST, INHA, PRL, PRLR and LHB had no significant effects on any trait in this experiment.
