A case of megalocornea-mental retardation syndrome complicated with bilateral sensorineural hearing impairment

Primary megalocornea: Case report

The neonate has a horizontal diameter of the cornea, usually up to 10mm with growth up to 2mm in the first 2 years of life. We report a case of megalocornea, a rare, recessive, X-linked disorder in a 3-month-old child, seeking to review what the medical literature brings information about the condition, as well as diagnostic and follow-up parameters, of its main differential diagnoses.

Megalocornea and mental retardation syndrome: clinical and instrumental follow-up of a case

Megalocornea-mental retardation syndrome, otherwise known as Neuhauser syndrome, is a rare autosomal recessive disorder. Only 36 cases have been reported in the literature. We describe the clinical and instrumental follow-up, lasting 5 years, of a case showing the typical features of the syndrome, associated with transient hypothyroidism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy with choreoathetotic movements, and brain malformation. Our report might help better delineate the phenotype and natural history of the syndrome.

Primary hypothyroidism and osteopenia associated with Neuhauser syndrome

We report on a patient affected by Neuhauser megalocornea-mental retardation (MMR) syndrome, presenting with most of the major manifestations of this disorder, in association with primary hypothyroidism and osteopenia. These symptoms, previously reported in single patients, could be discrete features of MMR syndrome.
