Abstract
Selenium nanoparticles (Se NPs) have gained growing significance due to their remarkable therapeutic qualities, decreased toxicity, enhanced bioavailability, and biocompatibility compared to other selenium compounds. Se NPs were synthesized using ascorbic acid (AA) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as reducing and capping agents, respectively. This was carried out by optimizing the physiochemical preparation parameters (e.g., precursor salt concentration, AA concentration, temperature, and pH). Characterization of the optimized Se/CMC nanocomposite sample was conducted using several techniques including UV-Vis spectroscopy, FT-IR, X-ray XRD, TEM, SEM, EDX, DLS, and Zeta potential. The UV-Vis spectra results indicate that the synthesized Se/CMC nanocomposite exhibits a most prominent surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peak at λmax = 270 nm. The diameter of the synthesized Se/CMC nanocomposite varied between 100 and 500 nm as observed in TEM images, and as verified by the DLS technique. Moreover, the Z-potential evaluated for the Se/CMC nanocomposite using the most optimal synthesis conditions was -21.8 ± 4.48 mV. The results obtained showed that Se/CMC nanocomposite had a more significant impact on Gram-negative clinical bacterial isolates (23 ± 0.97 mm) than Gram-positive (22 ± 0.95 mm). Additionally, the synthesized nanocomposite showed a highly antioxidant activity (83 %) of inhibition DPPH free radicals results using DPPH assay. Also, the fabricated Se/CMC nanocomposite has good anticancer activity (168 μg/mL) against the liver HepG2 cell line using MTT assay. Hence, the Se/CMC nanocomposite that was prepared has promising prospects in the field of healthcare owing to its enhanced capacity as an antioxidant, anticancer, and antibacterial agent.

Abstract
Herein, we report a green synthesized gold nanoparticle (AuNPs) based colorimetric detection of bisphenol A (BPA). The AuNPs were synthesized using khat leaf extract as a reducing agent by optimizing factors affecting the AuNPs synthesis, including gold precursor concentration (1 mM), and reaction temperature (60 °C). The AuNPs characterization was carried out using ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry and transmission electron microscopy, and it was found spherical with an average particle size of 17.3 ± 3.7 nm. A colorimetric nanosensor was developed by conjugation of bio-inspired AuNPs with BPA-specific aptamer for a quick and easy detection of BPA in plastic bottled water. The colorimetric assay relies on the strong affinity of BPA for aptamer, which causes detachment of the aptamer from the AuNPs surface in the presence of BPA inducing AuNPs aggregation. To achieve the colorimetric detection of BPA, the concentrations of NaCl and aptamer were optimized. The detection of BPA was monitored visually using a naked eye, as well as quantitatively using an ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer. The method visual limit of detection (LOD) was determined to be 0.1 ng/mL and reached 0.09 ng/mL using ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer. The method demonstrated very good linearity (R2 = 0.9986) in the range of 0.1-100 ng/mL. The proposed method showed high sensitivity to BPA detection in plastic bottled water with 86.7-98.0%, recovery. Therefore, the proposed colorimetric nanosensor can be used for determination of BPA in plastic bottled waters with reliable performance at lower concentrations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES At the present time, there is a persistent need to get rid of environmental contaminants by eco-friendly, sustainable, and economical technologies. Uncontrolled disposal practices of domestic and industrial solid and liquid wastes led to water pollution which has negative impacts on public health, environment, and socio-economic development. Several water-borne diseases are spreading man to man by microorganisms such as pathogenic bacteria. For the protection of water bodies, all wastewater from various sources should be managed and remediated properly. Myco-remediation is a form of bioremediation in which fungi are used to get rid of contaminants. Fungi are attractive agents for the biosynthesis of nanoparticles especially silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) which are considered one of the most widely utilized nanoparticles because of their unique characteristics such as antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. METHODS This study uses silver nitrate and supernatants of four marine fungi; Penicillium simplicissimum, Aspergillus terreus, Aspergillus japonicus, and Aspergillus oryzae for extracellular biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles and to evaluate its activity against different pathogenic microorganisms. These nanoparticles may subsequently be applied for the treatment or nano-bioremediation of microbial contaminants in water bodies and improve water quality. RESULTS Silver nanoparticles were synthesized and the results revealed that spherical and well-dispersed nanoparticles of different sizes were formed with sizes ranging between 3.8 and 23 nm. Characterization results approved the existence of stable nanocrystalline elemental silver. Antibacterial activity results revealed that AgNPs can be used as a powerful antimicrobial agent for several pathogenic bacteria, yeast, and fungi. Among the biosynthesized NPs mediated by the four marine fungi, AgNPs mediated by A. japonicus (5 mM) had the highest antibacterial activity, while AgNPs mediated by Penicillium simplicissmum (8 mM) had the highest antifungal activity. CONCLUSION Marine fungi can biosynthesize stable AgNPs that exhibit potent antimicrobial activity against a variety of pathogens.

Abstract
The dosimetric characteristics of hydrogel dosimeters based on polyacrylamide (PAC) as a capping agent incorporating silver nitrate as a radiation-sensitive material are investigated using UV-Vis spectrophotometry within the dose range 0–100 Gy. Glycerol was used in the hydrogel matrix to promote the dosimetric response and increase the radiation sensitivity. Upon exposing the PAC hydrogel to γ-ray, it exhibits a Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) band at 453 nm, and its intensity increases linearly with absorbed doses up to 100 Gy. The results are compared with the silver nitrate gel dosimeter. Glycerol of 15% in the hydrogel matrix enhances the radiation sensitivity by about 30%. PAC hydrogel dosimeter can be considered a near water equivalent material in the 400 keV–20 MeV photon energy range. At doses less than 15 Gy, the PAC hydrogel dosimeter retains higher radiation sensitivity than the gel dosimeter. The total uncertainty (2σ) of the dose estimated using this hydrogel is about 4%. These results may support the validity of using this hydrogel as a dosimeter to verify radiotherapy techniques and dose monitoring during blood irradiation.

Abstract
A new hydrophilic polymeric nanocomposite containing AgNPs was synthesized by chemical reduction of metal ions in an aqueous medium in the presence of the copolymer. A new water-soluble copolymer of 1-vinyl-1,2,4-triazole and vinylsulfonic acid sodium salt (poly(VT-co-Na-VSA)) was obtained by free-radical copolymerization and was used as a stabilizing precursor agent. The structural, dimensional, and morphological properties of the nanocomposite were studied by UV-Vis, FTIR, X-ray diffraction, atomic absorption, transmission and scanning electron microscopy, dynamic and electrophoretic light scattering, gel permeation chromatography, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. Hydrodynamic diameter of macroclubs for the copolymer was 171 nm, and for the nanocomposite it was 694 nm. Zeta potential for the copolymer was -63.8 mV, and for the nanocomposite it was -70.4 mV. The nanocomposite had strong antimicrobial activity towards Gram-negative and Gram-positive microorganisms: MIC and MBC values were in the range of 0.25-4.0 and 0.5-8.0 μg/mL, respectively.

Abstract
With increasing incidence rate of cardiovascular diseases and implant-related infections, there is growing demand for vascular patches that can promote endothelialization and resist bacterial infection. In this work, we immobilized sodium triphosphate–capped silver nanoparticles onto a polyurethane film to obtain a composite film and evaluated its in vitro biocompatibility. Subsequently, we anchored sodium triphosphate–capped silver nanoparticles onto a polyurethane-coated decellularized scaffold to prepare a vascular patch and investigated its in vivo performance in a mouse model. The prepared vascular patch demonstrated excellent biocompatibility and potent antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. It still maintained the surgical artery patency at 30 days after implantation. At the same time, the endothelialization at the surgical site was achieved, showing its ability to facilitate endothelialization. Therefore, it may be a promising candidate for combating bacterial infection and treating diseased blood vessels.

Abstract
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesised with hydrothermal autoclaving technique by using AgNO3 salt (silver precursor) at different concentrations (0.01, 0.1, 0.55, 1.1, 5.5, and 11 mM) and porcine skin (1% (w/v) ) gelatin polymeric matrix (reducing and stabiliser agent). The reaction was performed in an autoclave at 103 kPa and 121°C and the hydrothermal autoclaving exposure time and AgNO3 molar concentration were varied at a constant porcine skin gelatin concentration. The as-prepared AgNPs were characterised by UV-visible spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The antibacterial properties of AgNPs were tested against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Furthermore, 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl) 2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl assays were used to test whether the synthesised AgNPs can be potentially applied in cancer therapy or used as an antioxidant. This approach is a promising simple route for synthesising AgNPs with a smaller average particle 10 nm diameter. Furthermore, AgNPs exhibited a good cytotoxicity activity, reducing the viability of the liver cancer cell line HepG2 with a moderate IC50; they also showed a low-to-fair antioxidant activity. In addition, AgNPs had a remarkable preferential antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria than gram-negative bacteria. Therefore, these fabricated AgNPs can be used as an antibacterial agent in curative and preventive health care.
