Abstract
A 7-year-old neutered female Domestic Short-haired cat was presented for evaluation of ulceration and severe vascularization of the left cornea. Ophthalmic examination revealed a large red irregular mass over the whole cornea in the left eye. A lamellar keratectomy was performed. Histopathology revealed a chronic lymphoplasmacytic, histocytic, neutrophilic ulcerative keratitis with fibrosis and vascularization. The tumor recurred within 3 months, and another lamellar keratectomy and sclerotomy were performed. The lesion was diagnosed histopathologically as a hemangiosarcoma with incomplete margins. The mass recurred locally 6 weeks later, and an enucleation was performed. Histopathology revealed infiltration of the limbus and connective tissue beyond the sclera. Seven weeks later, a fluctuant swelling was found in the left orbit. Computed tomography confirmed a soft tissue attenuating mass measuring 33 x 24 mm diameter in the orbit. There was no sign of metastasis. Clinical remission was achieved with combined chemotherapy with doxorubicin and radiation therapy. The patient remained in clinical remission 20 months post-chemotherapy.

Abstract
PURPOSE To report three cases of canine corneal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) treated with strontium 90 beta radiation as an adjunct to surgical excision. METHODS Corneal SCC was excised with lamellar keratectomy. This was followed by local application of strontium 90 beta radiation. RESULTS Available case follow-up times range from 3 to 50 months. One case suffered a recurrence 5 months following initial excision and strontium 90 treatment. CONCLUSION AND DISCUSSION Strontium 90 beta radiation has been used extensively as an adjunctive treatment for equine corneal SCC and in other canine ocular tumors; however, there is a paucity of information regarding use in canine corneal SCC. The cases presented here suggest its use following keratectomy may be helpful in preventing disease recurrence. At the dosage used, severe adverse effects were not observed.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to characterize immunohistochemically 18 cases of canine haemangiopericytoma (CHP) using two new candidate markers for pericytes, tumour endothelial marker (TEM)-1 and new glue (NG)-2, as well as the conventional mesenchymal cellular markers, vimentin, α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), desmin and von Willebrand factor (vWF). Because pericytes may have the same origin as endothelial or smooth muscle cells or the same differentiation potential as myofibroblasts, 17 cases of leiomyosarcoma (LMS), 20 cases of haemangiosarcoma (HS) and three cases of myofibroblastic sarcoma (MFS) were also examined. Expression of TEM-1 by >10% of the neoplastic population was observed in 94.4% (17/18) of haemangiopericytomas, 23.5% (4/17) of LMSs, 30.0% (6/20) of HSs and 66.7% (2/3) of MFSs. NG-2 expression by >10% of the neoplastic population was observed in 16.7% (3/18) of haemangiopericytomas, 52.9% (9/17) of LMSs, 0% (0/20) of HSs and 33.3% (1/3) of MFSs. Vimentin was expressed by all of tumours. In haemangiopericytoma, the incidence of positive immunoreactivity in >10% of the neoplastic population was 5.6% (1/18) for both α-SMA and desmin and 0% (0/18) for vWF. Considering the phenotypic features of cells expressing TEM-1, CHPs are thought to originate from immature vascular mural cells sharing their phenotype with myofibroblasts. NG-2 expression may be a phenotype of smooth muscle cells rather than pericytes in dogs.

Abstract
A 11-year-old, female, spayed greyhound was presented with a haemorrhagic discharge from the vulva. Clinical examination, vaginoscopy and a computed tomography scan showed an irregular egg-sized mass in the region of the cervix and uterine stump. An endoscopic grab biopsy (incisional) suggested a malignant mesenchymal tumour. Following this, surgical excision of the cranial vagina, cervix and the uterine remnant was performed. The final diagnosis of haemangiosarcoma was based on histological examination of the larger excisional biopsy specimen and was confirmed by positive immunolabelling of the neoplastic endothelial cells for the von Willebrand factor.

Abstract
A 14-year-old Haflinger gelding presented with a protruding mass involving the cornea of the right eye. The mass was resected and submitted for histopathologic and immunohistochemical examination. The preliminary diagnosis was corneal sarcoma, most likely fibrosarcoma. The immunohistochemical results confirmed the mesenchymal origin of the neoplastic cells, which were most consistent with a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor. Corneal mesenchymal neoplasms are extremely uncommon tumors in human beings and domestic animals. The cause for this tumor was not determined; infection with bovine papillomavirus was not detected.

Abstract
A 12-year-old Belgian draft horse presented for a right eye third eyelid mass and red-tinged ocular discharge of 3 months' duration. The third eyelid was excised and submitted for histopathology. On histopathologic examination, the mass was composed of both hemangiosarcoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The horse developed thickened eyelids and hemorrhagic ocular discharge from the right eye approximately 16 months following surgery, and was euthanized. Necropsy and histopathology confirmed local recurrence and regional metastasis of the hemangiosarcoma. This was an unusual case because there were two distinct neoplastic processes composing the same mass that could not be differentiated grossly.

Abstract
Owing to its small size, favourable reproductive characteristics, and simple husbandry, the gray, short-tailed opossum, Monodelphis domestica, has become the most widely distributed and intensively utilised laboratory-bred research marsupial in the world today. This article provides an overview of the current state and future projections of genomic resources for this species and discusses the potential impact of this growing resource base on active research areas that use M. domestica as a model system. The resources discussed include: fully arrayed, bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) libraries; an expanding linkage map; developing full-genome BAC-contig and chromosomal fluorescence in situ hybridisation maps; public websites providing access to the M. domestica whole-genome-shotgun sequence trace database and the whole-genome sequence assembly; and a new project underway to create an expressed-sequence database and microchip expression arrays for functional genomics applications. Major research areas discussed span a variety of genetic, evolutionary, physiologic, reproductive, developmental, and behavioural topics, including: comparative immunogenetics; genomic imprinting; reproductive biology; neurobiology; photobiology and carcinogenesis; genetics of lipoprotein metabolism; developmental and behavioural endocrinology; sexual differentiation and development; embryonic and fetal development; meiotic recombination; genome evolution; molecular evolution and phylogenetics; and more.
