Abstract
The enantioselective addition of isoxazolidin-5-ones to the β-carbon of allenoates has been carried out by using a novel spirobiindane-based quaternary ammonium salt catalyst. This protocol, which proceeds under classical liquid-solid phase-transfer conditions, gives access to unprecedented highly functionalized β2,2-amino acid derivatives with good enantioselectivities and in high yields, and further manipulations of these products have been carried out as well.

Abstract
We herein report a protocol for the asymmetric aldol-initiated cascade addition of isoxazolidin-5-ones to ortho-cyanobenzaldehydes by using Takemoto's bifunctional organocatalyst. This approach allows for the synthesis of various novel β2,2-amino acid-phthalide conjugates with good enantio- and diastereoselectivities in reasonable yields and the further ring-opening of these compounds to acyclic carboxylic acid derivatives was demonstrated too.

Abstract
The catalytic allylic substitution is one of the most important tools in asymmetric synthesis to form C-C bonds in an enantioselective way. While high efficiency was previously accomplished in terms of enantio- and regiocontrol using different catalyst types, a strong general limitation is a very pronounced preference for the formation of allylic substitution products with (E)-configured C=C double bonds. Herein, we report that with a planar chiral palladacycle catalyst a diastereospecific reaction outcome is achieved using isoxazolinones and allylic imidates as substrates, thus maintaining the C=C double bond geometry of the allylic substrates in the highly enantioenriched products. DFT calculations show that the reactions proceed via an SN 2 mechanism and not via π-allyl Pd complexes. Crucial for the high control is the stabilization of the allylic fragment in the SN 2 transition state by π-interactions with the phenyl substituents of the pentaphenylferrocenyl catalyst core.

Abstract
1,4-Conjugate addition of ((chloromethyl)sulfonyl)benzenes to arylideneisoxazol-5-ones, followed by one-pot, N-selective trapping in the presence of electrophiles, was investigated. This strategy led to the synthesis of new, stable N-protected isoxazol-5-ones in good yields and high diastereolectivity. The study of the reactivity of obtained products in the presence of the Mo(CO)6/H2O system allowed the development of a cascade reaction leading to novel methyl ketones in high yields and unchanged dr bearing an uncommon chloromethinearylsulfonyl end group.

Abstract
Selenium-containing amino acids are valuable targets but methods for the stereoselective α-selenation of simple amino acid precursors are rare. We herein report the enantioselective electrophilic α-selenation of azlactones (masked α-amino acid derivatives) and isoxazolidin-5-ones (masked β-amino acids) using Cinchona alkaloids as easily accessible organocatalysts. A variety of differently substituted derivatives was accessed with reasonable levels of enantioselectivities and further studies concerning the stability and suitability of these compounds for further manipulations have been carried out as well.

Abstract
The enantioselective synthesis of a broad variety of novel differently functionalized α-halogenated α-aryl-β2,2-amino acid derivatives by means of an ammonium-salt-catalyzed asymmetric α-halogenation of isoxazolidin-5-ones was accomplished. Key to success to obtain high levels of enantioselectivities was the use of Maruoka's spirocyclic binaphthyl-based ammonium salts, and detailed accompanying mechanistic studies using density functional theory methods revealed the key features for the catalyst-substrate interactions.

Abstract
The main purpose of this review article is to present selected asymmetric synthesis reactions in which chemical and stereochemical outcomes are dependent on the use of an appropriate chiral catalyst. Optically pure or enantiomerically enriched products of such transformations may find further applications in various fields. Among an extremely wide variety of asymmetric reactions catalyzed by chiral systems, we are interested in: asymmetric cyclopropanation, Friedel–Crafts reaction, Mannich and Michael reaction, and other stereoselective processes conducted in the presence of zinc ions. This paper describes the achievements of the above-mentioned asymmetric transformations in the last three years. The choice of reactions is related to the research that has been carried out in our laboratory for many years.

Abstract
The Rh(III)-catalyzed dual directing group assisted C-H activation/annulation of 3-arylisoxazolones with propargyl alcohols has been developed, which expands the application scope of isoxazolones in organic synthesis. This protocol also worked well with 3-aryl-1,4,2-dioxazol-5-ones to produce synthetically and biologically important 4-arylisoquinolones.

Abstract
The advent of saturated N-heterocycles as valuable building blocks in medicinal chemistry has led to the development of new methods to construct such nitrogen-containing cyclic frameworks. Despite the apparent strategic clarity, intramolecular C–H aminations with metallonitrenes have only sporadically been explored in this direction because of the intractability of the requisite alkyl nitrenes. Here, we report copper-catalysed intramolecular amination using an alkyl nitrene generated from substituted isoxazolidin-5-ones upon N–O bond cleavage. The copper catalysis exclusively aminates aromatic C(sp2)–H bonds among other potentially reactive groups, offering a solution to the chemoselectivity problem that has been troublesome with rhodium catalysis. A combined experimental and computational study suggested that the active species in the current cyclic β-amino acid synthesis is a dicopper alkyl nitrene, which follows a cyclisation pathway distinct from the analogous alkyl metallonitrene. Copper-catalysed conditions have been developed for the chemoselective synthesis of cyclic β-amino acids.![]()
