Dual Roles of Rongalite: Reductive Coupling Reaction to Construct Thiosulfonates Using Sulfonyl Hydrazides

Rongalite as a C1 Source: Sulfonylmethylation of Indoles with Aryl/Alkyl Hydrazides and Sulfinates

Herein, we present a sulfonylmethylation of indoles with aryl/alkyl hydrazides and sulfinates that provides viable access to sulfone compounds using rongalite as a C1 source. This protocol features readily available chemicals and simple operations, and the products were obtained in moderate to good yields.

Electrochemical synthesis of sulfinic and sulfonic esters from sulfonyl hydrazides

An electrochemical synthetic method for the synthesis of sulfinic esters and sulfonic esters from sulfonyl hydrazides was developed. Alkyl sulfinic esters were synthesized by treating sulfonyl hydrazides with trialkyl orthoformate in a DMF solvent at a constant current of 5 mA and then optimizing the reaction conditions. Conversely, alkyl sulfonic esters were exclusively obtained when the reaction was conducted in alkyl alcohol solvents at a constant current of 15 mA. The various substituted arylsulfonyl hydrazides afforded moderate to good yields of the desired sulfinic esters and sulfonic esters. Mechanistic investigations revealed that sulfonyl radicals were formed through electrochemical oxidation and that they react with alkyl radicals or alkoxy radicals to generate the respective ester products.

Catalyst-Free Synthesis of Thiosulfonates and 3-Sulfenylindoles from Sodium Sulfinates in Water

This paper presents a green and efficient aqueous-phase method for the synthesis of thiosulfonates, which has the benefits of no need for catalysts or redox reagents and a short reaction time, providing a method with great economic value for synthesizing thiosulfonates. Furthermore, 3-Sulfenylindoles can be easily synthesized using this method, which expands the potential applications of this reaction.

Metal-Free Highly Regioselective 1,4-Sulfonyliodination of 1,3-Enynes

Herein, a novel, practical, and green synthetic method using readily available 1,3-enynes with sulfonyl hydrazides and I₂ through tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP)-mediated 1,4-sulfonyliodination has been developed for synthesizing various tetrasubstituted allenyl iodides under metal-free conditions. Notably, the proposed method exhibits a broad substrate scope, operational simplicity, tolerance to air, high functional-group tolerance, satisfactory yields, and excellent regioselectivity as well as involves the use of cost-effective reagents such as green oxidants.
