Abstract
Abdominal actinomycosis is an uncommon pediatric infection that often manifests with a tumor-like lesion. We describe a previously healthy 11-year-old girl who presented with right lower quadrant abdominal pain and drainage. Computed tomography scan showed an abdominal wall mass. Surgical debridement cultures grew Actinomyces meyeri. Literature review identified 18 additional pediatric cases since 1964 that we have summarized.

Abstract
Pulmonary actinomycosis is rarely reported in pediatric age. An 11-year-old girl with history of two-month back pain was admitted to our hospital. On physical examination respiratory sounds were diminished on the left upper lung. Chest radiograph revealed a mass in the left upper lobe. Computed tomography showed solitary lesion (5.6 x 4.5 cm in size) in the left upper lobe. We could not rule out the possibility of malignant thoracic tumor. The patient underwent surgery. Histological examination of the resected tissue revealed, numerous sulfur granules, characteristic of Actinomyces, surrounded by purulent exudates, which are consistent with actinomycosis. She was treated with penicillin G. The patient responded well to penicillin therapy and the lesions regressed completely. She remained well throughout the three-year follow-up.

Abstract
Pulmonary actinomycosis is a rare bacteriological disease, characterized by local suppuration and an extensive fibro-inflammatory process, with a possible pseudotumoral outcome. We report on a case in a 15-year-old boy, admitted in our department for prolonged pleuropneumopathy. Clinical and radiological findings were not contributive. The diagnosis of actinomycosis was obtained by pathology after surgical resection. This disease can mimic on lung X-rays a number of disorders, such as pulmonary tuberculoma, invasive tuberculosis or lung carcinoma. Pleuropulmonary actinomycosis is a rare intrathoracic infection during childhood, of which poor outcome and tough diagnosis lead usually to a surgical attitude given a picture of recurrent pulmonary abnormality. When the diagnosis is established, the treatment is medical.

Abstract
Thoracic actinomycosis is uncommon, indolent, and often not considered in children with chest wall masses, pneumonia, or empyema. We present a 27-month-old girl without risk factors for thoracic actinomycosis whose initial diagnosis was malignancy. She recovered completely after lobectomy, debridement, and antimicrobial therapy. Literature review since 1975 identified 54 additional cases; most were male, older, and had underlying risk factors.

Abstract
Actinomyces is a genus of gram-positive anaerobic or microaerophilic bacteria that colonize the upper respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts and the female genital tract. These organisms cause disseminated disease in the mouth, the respiratory system, and rarely in the gastrointestinal tract. The diseases produced by Actinomyces species result from the disruption of the barriers that allow the dissemination of the bacteria through the surrounding tissues. The appendix is often a nidus of Actinomyces infection, but a prompt diagnosis cannot be made without the results of histologic examination of the appendix. The treatment of choice for actinomycosis of the appendix is the high-dose parenteral administration of penicillin G for 2 weeks immediately after the diagnosis has been made and continued oral treatment with that agent for at least the next 6 months. We present the case of a 13-year-old adolescent boy with actinomycosis of the appendix that was identified by histologic examination after appendectomy.
