Abstract
This review focuses on the use of polyolefins in high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) cables and capacitors. A short description of the latest evolution and current use of HVDC cables and capacitors is first provided, followed by the basics of electric insulation and capacitor functions. Methods to determine dielectric properties are described, including charge transport, space charges, resistivity, dielectric loss, and breakdown strength. The semicrystalline structure of polyethylene and isotactic polypropylene is described, and the way it relates to the dielectric properties is discussed. A significant part of the review is devoted to describing the state of art of the modeling and prediction of electric or dielectric properties of polyolefins with consideration of both atomistic and continuum approaches. Furthermore, the effects of the purity of the materials and the presence of nanoparticles are presented, and the review ends with the sustainability aspects of these materials. In summary, the effective use of modeling in combination with experimental work is described as an important route toward understanding and designing the next generations of materials for electrical insulation in high-voltage transmission.

Abstract
We calculate the pendular-state spectra of cold linear molecules, and investigated the dependences of “Q-branch” integrated intensity of pendular spectra on both electric-field strength and molecular rotation-temperature. A new multi-peak structure in the “Q-branch” spectrum is appearing when the Stark interaction strength ω = μE/B equal to or larger than the critical value. Our study shows that the above results can be used not only to measure the electric-field vector and its spatial distribution in some electrostatic devices, such as the Stark decelerator, Stark velocity filter and electrostatic trap and so on, but also to survey the orientation degree of cold linear molecules in a strong electrostatic field.

Abstract
Investigations are carried out on the nature of photoinduced electron transfer reactions within some metallo-octaethylporphyrin (zinc octaethylporphyrin and magnesium octaethylporphyrin) donors and acceptor 9-cyanoanthracene in cyanobenzene at 300 K by steady state and time-resolved spectroscopic methods. Acceptor is selectively excited at 366 nm and 374 nm for steady state and time-resolved measurements, respectively, where donor metalloporphyrins possess negligible absorbance. Evidence is found for simultaneous occurrence of Förster's type singlet–singlet energy transfer process along with electron transfer. High exergonic values of Gibbs free energy change for both forward and back electron transfer reactions indicate the possibility of occurrences of these two consecutive processes in the Marcus inverted region.

Abstract
Stark absorption spectroscopy was applied to 6-hydroxyquinoline (6-HQ) doped in polymer films of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) at temperatures of 50-300 K. The electroabsorption (E-A) spectrum of 6-HQ markedly depends on temperature in a PMMA film. The polarization dependence as well as the temperature dependence of the E-A spectra reveals that 6-HQ is oriented along the direction of the applied electric field at room temperature in a PMMA film. As the temperature becomes lower, the field-induced orientation of 6-HQ is restricted, and only the Stark shift induced by a change in electric dipole moment and in molecular polarizability is observed. On the other hand, E-A spectra of 6-HQ doped in a PVA film are essentially independent of temperature, suggesting that 6-HQ is not oriented along the electric field even at room temperature in PVA. These results show that the molecular motion of 6-HQ in a polymer film is very sensitive to the microenvironment of the surrounding matrix.
