Abstract
Van der Waals clusters composed of He and aromatic molecules provide fundamental information about intermolecular interactions in weakly bound systems. In this study, phenol-helium clusters (PhOH-Hen with n ≤ 2) are characterized for the first time by UV and IR spectroscopies. The S1 ← S0 origin and ionization energy both show small but additive shifts, suggesting π-bound structures of these clusters, a conclusion supported by rotational contour analyses of the S1 origin bands. The OH stretching vibrations of the PhOH moiety in the clusters match with those of bare PhOH in both the S0 and D0 states, illustrating the negligible perturbation of the He atoms on the molecular vibration. Matrix shifts induced by He attachment are discussed based on the observed band positions with the help of complementary quantum chemical calculations. For comparison, the UV and ionization spectra of PhOH-Ne are reported as well.

Abstract
Structures and ionization-induced solvation dynamics of phenol-(argon)n clusters, PhOH-Arn (n ≤ 5), were studied by using a variety of isomer-selective photoionization and vibrational spectroscopic techniques. Several higher-energy isomers were found and assigned for the first time by systematically controlling the experimental conditions of the supersonic expansion. This behavior is also confirmed for the PhOH-Kr2 cluster. Solvation structures are elucidated by evaluating systematic shifts in the S1 ← S0 origin and ionization energies obtained by resonance-enhanced photoionization, in addition to the OH stretching frequency obtained by IR photodissociation. Isomer-selective picosecond time-resolved IR spectroscopy for the n = 2 clusters revealed that the dynamics for the ionization-induced intermolecular π → H site-switching reaction strongly depends on the initial isomeric structure. In particular, the reaction time for the (1|1) isomer is 7 ps, while that for (2|0) is <3 ps. This difference shows that the switching time is determined by the distance of the reaction coordinate between the initial π-site and the final OH-site.

Abstract
Infrared (IR) spectra of resorcinol (Rs)-Arn clusters (n = 1 and 2) have been measured in the neutral and cationic ground states (S0 and D0) by IR dip and resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI)-IR spectroscopy. The OH stretching vibrations in S0 keep their frequency regardless of the number of Ar atoms and the conformation of the OH groups in Rs (rotamers RsI and RsII), demonstrating that the Ar atoms are attached to the aromatic π-ring (π-bound structure) in S0. In the D0 state, the IR spectra of Rs+-Arn reflect the difference in the Rs conformations (RsI+ and RsII+). For n = 1, the IR spectra of both rotamers are almost the same as those of the corresponding monomer cations, indicating that Ar ligands essentially remain π-bonded after ionization. In contrast, the IR spectra of Rs+-Ar2 show hydrogen-bonded and free OH stretching vibrations, demonstrating that for a significant fraction of the clusters, the Ar atoms migrate from the π-bound site to the OH groups. The ionization-induced π → H migration yields are not unity for both rotamers RsI+-Ar2 and RsII+-Ar2. This result is in sharp contrast to phenol+-Ar2, in which one of the Ar atoms migrates to the OH site with 100% yield. The mechanism leading to the nonunity yield in Rs+-Ar2 is discussed in terms of the number of OH binding sites and Franck-Condon factors. The ionization excess energy dependence of the IR spectra of Rs+-Ar2 and its Rs+-Ar fragments is discussed in terms of the Ar binding energies estimated from the photoionization and photodissociation efficiency spectra.

Abstract
The vibronic structure of m-ethylbenzyl radical has been investigated in the gas phase for the first time in a corona-excited supersonic expansion (CESE). Assignment of the m-ethylbenzyl radical has been reported by comparing the spectra from m-xylene and m-ethyltoluene. The theoretical calculation, Density functional theory, of the D0 and D1 state structures of the m-ethylbenzyl radical was computed. Conclusive assignment of vibronic emission spectrum has been analyzed with an aid of Franck-Condon simulation in the D0-D1 transition.

Abstract
4-propylaniline complexes with one and two argon atoms formed in the molecular beam were studied in the first excited electronic state, S1, using resonance enhanced two-photon ionization spectroscopy and in the cation ground state, D0, using mass analyzed threshold ionization spectroscopy. The combination of electronic and cationic spectra of the clusters allows two conformations to be identified in both aniline-Ar1 and aniline-Ar2, which are assigned to either the gauche configuration or anti-configuration of 4-propylaniline. The gauche isomer exhibits complex bands shifted 29 cm(-1) and 89 cm(-1) from the S1 origin bands and 83 cm(-1) and 148 cm(-1) from the ionization potential assigned to the Ar1 and Ar2 complexes, respectively. For the anti-rotamer, the corresponding shifts actually become nearly additive, 53 cm(-1) and 109 cm(-1) for the S1 origin bands, and 61 cm(-1) and 125 cm(-1) for the ionization potentials. Ab initio calculations provide insights into the influences of the propyl and amino groups on the positions of the argon atoms within the clusters. In addition, the binding energy of one argon with the gauche isomer of 4-propylaniline has been measured to be 550 ± 5 cm(-1) in the D0 state, 496 ± 5 cm(-1) in the S1 state, and 467 ± 5 cm(-1) in the neutral ground state, S0.

Abstract
The structure and vibrations of 3,5-difluoroanisole (3,5-DFA) in the first electronically excited (S(1)) state were studied by mass-analyzed resonant two-photon ionization (R2PI) technique as well as the quantum chemical calculations. The ab initio and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that only one structure is stable for each of the S(0), S(1), and D(0) states. In the one color R2PI spectrum, the band origin of the S(1)←S(0) electronic transition (0(0) band) of 3,5-DFA is found to be 37,595±3 cm(-1). In the S(1) state, most of the bands observed are related to the in-plane ring deformation and out-of-plane bending vibrations. The adiabatic ionization energy (IE) of 3,5-DFA is determined to be 70,096±15 cm(-1) by the two color R2PI technique, in agreement with the values predicted by the DFT approaches. The dihalogen-substitution effects on the molecular structure, vibrational frequencies, and electronic transition and ionization energies were discussed in detail. The van der Waals complex of 3,5-DFA with argon (3,5-DFA···Ar) was also observed and studied. The 0(0) band of 3,5-DFA···Ar complex is red-shifted by about 9 cm(-1) with respect to that of 3,5-DFA. Both the experimental data and the calculated results indicate that the formation of 3,5-DFA···Ar complex gives only a weak influence on the properties of 3,5-DFA moiety.

Abstract
Sixteen intermolecular vibrational levels of the S(0) state of the fluorobenzene-Ar van der Waals complex have been observed using dispersed fluorescence. The levels range up to ~130 cm(-1) in vibrational energy. The vibrational energies have been modelled using a complete set of harmonic and quartic anharmonic constants and a cubic anharmonic coupling between the stretch and long axis bend overtone that becomes near ubiquitous at higher energies. The constants predict the observed band positions with a root mean square deviation of 0.04 cm(-1). The set of vibrational levels predicted by the constants, which includes unobserved bands, has been compared with the predictions of ab initio calculations, which include all vibrational levels up to 70-75 cm(-1). There are small differences in energy, particularly above 60 cm(-1), however, the main differences are in the assignments and are largely due to the limitations of assigning the ab initio wavefunctions to a simple stretch, bend, or combination when the states are mixed by the cubic anharmonic coupling. The availability of these experimental data presents an opportunity to extend ab initio calculations to higher vibrational energies to provide an assessment of the accuracy of the calculated potential surface away from the minimum. The intermolecular modes of the fluorobenzene-Ar(2) trimer complex have also been investigated by dispersed fluorescence. The dominant structure is a pair of bands with a ~35 cm(-1) displacement from the origin band. Based on the set of vibrational modes calculated from the fluorobenzene-Ar frequencies, they are assigned to a Fermi resonance between the symmetric stretch and symmetric short axis bend overtone. The analysis of this resonance provides a measurement of the coupling strength between the stretch and short axis bend overtone in the dimer, an interaction that is not directly observed. The coupling matrix elements determined for the fluorobenzene-Ar stretch-long axis bend overtone and stretch-short axis bend overtone couplings are remarkably similar (3.8 cm(-1) cf. 3.2 cm(-1)). Several weak features seen in the fluorobenzene-Ar(2) spectrum have also been assigned.

Abstract
We have recorded high resolution, partially rotationally resolved, jet-cooled cavity ringdown spectra of the origin band of the A-X electronic transition of both the G and T conformers of the perproteo and perdeutero isotopologues of the ethyl peroxy radical, C(2)H(5)O(2). This transition, located in the near infrared, was studied using a narrow band laser source (< or approximately 250 MHz) and a supersonic slit-jet expansion coupled with an electric discharge allowing us to obtain rotational temperatures of about 15 K. All four spectra have been successfully simulated using an evolutionary algorithm approach with a Hamiltonian including rotational and spin-rotational terms. Excellent agreement with the experimental spectra was obtained by fitting seven molecular parameters in each ground and the first excited electronic states as well as the band origin of the electronic transition. This analysis unambiguously confirms the assignment of the lower frequency origin band to the G conformer and the higher frequency one to the T conformer.
