Abstract
Charged excitations are electronic transitions that involve a change in the total charge of a molecule or material. Understanding the properties and reactivity of charged species requires insights from theoretical calculations that can accurately describe orbital relaxation and electron correlation effects in open-shell electronic states. In this Review, we describe the current state of algebraic diagrammatic construction (ADC) theory for simulating charged excitations and its recent developments. We start with a short overview of ADC formalism for the one-particle Green's function, including its single- and multireference formulations and extension to periodic systems. Next, we focus on the capabilities of ADC methods and discuss recent findings about their accuracy for calculating a wide range of excited-state properties. We conclude our Review by outlining possible directions for future developments of this theoretical approach.

Abstract
This work examines the accuracy and precision of x-ray absorption spectra computed with a multireference approach that combines generalized active space (GAS) references with the driven similarity renormalization group (DSRG). We employ the x-ray absorption benchmark of organic molecule (XABOOM) set, consisting of 116 transitions from mostly organic molecules [Fransson et al., J. Chem. Theory Comput. 17, 1618 (2021)]. Several approximations to a full-valence active space are examined and benchmarked. Absolute excitation energies and intensities computed with the GAS-DSRG truncated to second-order in perturbation theory are found to systematically underestimate experimental and reference theoretical values. Third-order perturbative corrections significantly improve the accuracy of GAS-DSRG absolute excitation energies, bringing the mean absolute deviation from experimental values down to 0.32 eV. The ozone molecule and glyoxylic acid are particularly challenging for second-order perturbation theory and are examined in detail to assess the importance of active space truncation and intruder states.

Abstract
Perturbative correction to a wave function built from singlet-triplet mixed two-electron functions (geminals) is derived in the context of symmetry-adapted schemes, applying partial spin-projection. Imposing the constraint of strong orthogonality of geminals results in a reference function that captures static correlation in a computationally feasible way. In case of a lack of spin purification, the product of spin-unrestricted geminals is generally spin-contaminated, potentially undermining performance of a subsequent dynamic correlation treatment. In this work, spin symmetry of the reference is partially restored by half-projection in a variation-after-projection scheme. Applying perturbation theory (PT) to recover the missing part of electron correlation is hampered by the fact that an obvious choice for a zero-order Hamiltonian is not provided. The situation is amended by adopting the formalism of symmetry-adapted PT. The resulting framework is tested on singlet-triplet gaps of biradicaloids, and it is found to perform well in situations where its unprojected counterpart fails because of spin contamination.

Abstract
We present a natural orbital-based implementation of the intermediate Hamiltonian Fock space coupled-cluster method for the (1, 1) sector of Fock space. The use of natural orbitals significantly reduces the computational cost and can automatically choose an appropriate set of active orbitals. The new method retains the charge transfer separability of the original intermediate Hamiltonian Fock space coupled-cluster method and gives excellent performance for valence, Rydberg, and charge-transfer excited states. It offers significant computational advantages over the popular equation of motion coupled cluster method for excited states dominated by single excitations.

Abstract
A novel state-averaged version of ab initio nonorthogonal valence bond method is described, for the sake of accurate theoretical studies of excited states in the valence bond framework. With respect to standard calculations in the molecular orbital framework, the state-averaged breathing-orbital valence bond (BOVB) method has the advantage to be free from the penalizing constraint for the ground and excited state(s) to share the same unique set of orbitals. The ability of the BOVB method to faithfully describe excited states and to compute accurate transition energies from the ground state is tested on the five lowest-lying singlet electronic states of ozone and sulfur dioxide, among which 11B2 and 21A1 are the challenging ones. As the 11A2, 11B1, and 11B2 states are of different symmetries than the ground state, they can be calculated at the state-specific BOVB level. On the other hand, the 21A1 states and the 11A1 ground states, which are of like symmetry, are calculated with the state-averaged BOVB technique. In all cases, the calculated vertical energies are close to the experimental values when available, and at par with the most sophisticated calculations in the molecular framework, despite the extreme compactness of the BOVB wave functions, made of no more than 5-9 valence bond structures in all cases. The features that allow the combination of compactness and accuracy in challenging cases are analyzed. For the "ionic" 11B2 states, which are the site of important charge fluctuations, it is because of the built-in dynamic correlation inherent to the BOVB method. For the 21A1 ones, this is the fact that these states have the degree of freedom of having different orbitals than the ground states, even though they are of like symmetry and calculated simultaneously using the newly implemented state-average BOVB algorithm. Finally, the description of the excited states in terms of Lewis structures is insightful, rationalizing the fast ring closure for the 21A1 state of ozone and predicting some diradical character in the so-called "ionic" 11B2 states.

Abstract
A cost-effective equation of motion coupled cluster method, EOMIP-CCSD(2), is used to investigate vertical and adiabatic ionization potential as well as ionization-induced structural changes of water clusters and compared with CCSD(T), CASPT2, and MP2 methods. The moderate N(5) scaling and low storage requirement yields EOMIP-CCSD(2) calculation feasible even for reasonably large molecules and clusters with accuracy comparable to CCSD(T) method at much cheaper computational cost. Our calculations shed light on the authenticity of EOMIP-CCSD(2) results and establish a reliable method to study of ionization energy of molecular clusters. We have further investigated the performance of several classes of DFT functionals for ionization energies of water clusters to benchmark the results and to get a reliable functionals for the same.

Abstract
We report a comparative single-reference and multireference coupled-cluster investigation on the structure, potential energy surface, and IR spectroscopic properties of the trans peroxo nitrate radical, one of the key intermediates in stratospheric NOX chemistry. The previous single-reference ab initio studies predicted an unbound structure for the trans peroxo nitrate radical. However, our Fock space multireference coupled-cluster calculation confirms a bound structure for the trans peroxo nitrate radical, in accordance with the experimental results reported earlier. Further, the analysis of the potential energy surface in FSMRCC method indicates a well-behaved minima, contrary to the shallow minima predicted by the single-reference coupled-cluster method. The harmonic force field analysis, of various possible isomers of peroxo nitrate also reveals that only the trans structure leads to the experimentally observed IR peak at 1840 cm(-1). The present study highlights the critical importance of nondynamic correlation in predicting the structure and properties of high-energy stratospheric NOx radicals.
