Abstract
Although the chemistry of carbonyl-protected platinum nanoclusters is well established, their bonding mode remains poorly understood. In most of them, the average Pt oxidation state is zero or slightly negative, leading to the apparent average configuration 5d10 6sε (ε = 0 or very small) and the apparent conclusion that metal-metal bonding cannot arise from the completely filled 5d shell nor from the empty (or almost empty) 6s orbitals. However, DFT calculations show in fact that in these species the actual average configuration is 5d10-x 6sx, which provides to the whole cluster a significant total number of 6s electrons that ensures metal-metal bonding. This ("excited") average configuration is to be related to that of coinage metals in ligated group 11 nanoclusters (nd10 (n + 1)sx). Calculations show that metal-metal bonding in most of these platinum nanoclusters can be rationalized within the concepts of superatoms and supermolecules, in a similar way as for group 11 nanoclusters. The "excited" 5d10-x 6sx configuration results from a level crossing between 5d combinations and 6s combinations, the former transferring their electrons to the latter. This level crossing, which does not exist in the bare Ptn clusters, is induced by the ligand shell, the role of which being thus not innocent with respect to metal-metal bonding.

Abstract
DFT calculations were carried out on a series of cluster cores, the framework of which was made of the condensation of several Pt@Ag12-centered icosahedra. Icosahedral condensations through vertex-sharing, face-sharing, and interpenetration were considered and their favored electron counts were determined from their stable closed-shell configurations. A large number of the computed assemblies of n icosahedral superatomic units can be considered as isolobal analogs of stable, closed-shell n-atom molecules, most of them obeying the octet rule. The larger the degree of fusion between icosahedra, the stronger the interaction between them. For example, it was possible to design 3-icosahedral supermolecular cores analogous to CO2, SF2, or [I3]-, but also to the not-yet-isolated cyclic O3. Supermolecules equivalent to non-stable molecules can also be designed. Indeed, differences exist between atoms and superatoms, and original icosahedra assemblies with no "molecular" analogs are also likely to exist, especially with compact structures and/or systems made of a large number of fused superatoms.

Abstract
The ground and low-lying states of ozone (O(3)) have been studied by multireference variational methods and large basis sets. We have constructed potential energy curves along the bending coordinate for (1,2) (1)A('), (1,2) (1)A("), (1,2) (3)A('), and (1,2) (3)A(") symmetries, optimizing at the same time the symmetric stretching coordinate. Thirteen minima have been located whose geometrical and energetic characteristics are in very good agreement with existing experimental data. Special emphasis has been given to the interpretation of the chemical bond through valence-bond-Lewis diagrams; their appropriate use captures admirably the bonding nature of the O(3) molecule. The biradical character of its ground state, adopted long ago by the scientific community, does not follow from a careful analysis of its wave function.

Abstract
The infrared absorption spectrum of cyclic ozone is calculated by means of a new ab initio potential energy surface, the dipole moment function, and exact quantum mechanical dynamics calculations. Five different isotopomers are considered. The absorption line for excitation of the bending fundamental near 800 cm(-1) is by far the strongest band; all other bands are more than one order of magnitude less intense. This spectral pattern as well as the isotope shifts for the various isotopomers are important for identifying cyclic ozone. Several possibilities for accessing the ring minimum of cyclic ozone are also discussed on the basis of recent electronic structure calculations.
