Abstract
Ag+(aromatic) ion-molecule complexes of benzene, toluene, or furan are generated in the gas phase by laser vaporization in a supersonic expansion. These ions are mass selected in a time-of-flight spectrometer and studied with ultraviolet laser photodissociation and photofragment imaging. UV laser excitation results in dissociative charge transfer (DCT) for these ions, producing neutral silver atom and the respective aromatic cation as the photofragments. Velocity-map imaging and slice imaging techniques are employed to investigate the kinetic energy release in these photodissociation processes. In each case, DCT produces significant kinetic energy, and evidence is also found for excitation of the internal rovibrational degrees of freedom for the molecular cations. Analysis of the kinetic energy release together with the known ionization energies of silver and the molecular ligands provides new information on the cation-π bond energies.

Abstract
Ion mobility is not a newly discovered phenomenon. It has roots going back to Langevin at the beginning of the 20th century. Our group initially got involved by accident around 1990 and this paper is a brief account of what has transpired here at UCSB the past 25 years in response to this happy accident. We started small, literally, with transition metal atomic ions and transitioned to carbon clusters, synthetic polymers, most types of biological molecules and eventually peptide and protein oligomeric assembly. Along the way we designed and built several generations of instruments, a process that is still ongoing. And perhaps most importantly we have incorporated theory with experiment from the beginning; a necessary wedding that allows an atomistic face to be put on the otherwise interesting but not fully informative cross section measurements.

Abstract
Ion transport and dynamic properties are calculated through molecular dynamics simulation of the motion of O(2)(+) in Kr under the action of an electrostatic field. The two lower potential energy surfaces X̃(2)A(") and Ã(2)A(') are considered for the interaction of the Π ground state of the ion with a closed shell noble gas. First, we study the reproduction of experimental mobility data through the use of single and multiple potential energy surfaces and establish the contribution of both lower energy states to the interactions. Further, we obtain mean energies and components of the diffusion coefficient parallel and perpendicular to the field, the latter through calculation of the velocity correlation functions. We also calculate components of the angular momentum which provide a measure of the collisional rotational alignment of the ions at high field strength.

Abstract
The vibrational relaxation of ions in low-density gases under the action of an electrostatic field is reproduced through a molecular dynamics simulation method. The vibration is treated though quantum mechanics and the remaining degrees of freedom are considered classical. The procedure is tested through comparison against analytic results for a two-dimensional quantum model and by studying energy exchange during binary ion-atom collisions. Finally, the method has been applied successfully to the calculation of the mobility and the vibrational relaxation rate of O2+ in Kr as a function of the mean collision energy using a model interaction potential that reproduces the potential minimum of a previously known ab initio potential surface. The calculation of the steady mean vibrational motion of the ions in (flow) drift tubes seems straightforward, though at the expense of large amounts of computer time.
