Abstract
The catalytic dehydrogenation of light alkanes is key to transform low-cost hydrocarbons to high value-added chemicals. Although Pt is extremely efficient at catalyzing this reaction, it suffers from coke formation that deactivates the catalyst. Dopants such as Sn are widely used to increase the stability and lifetime of Pt. In this work, the dehydrogenation reaction of ethane catalyzed by Pt3 and Pt2X (X=Si, Ge, Sn, P and Al) nanocatalysts has been studied computationally by means of density functional calculations. Our results show how the presence of dopants in the nanocluster structure affects its electronic properties and catalytic activity. Exploration of the potential energy surfaces show that non-doped catalyst Pt3 present low selectivity towards ethylene formation, where acetylene resulting from double dehydrogenation reaction will be obtained as a side product (in agreement with the experimental evidence). On the contrary, the inclusion of Si, Ge, Sn, P or Al as dopant agents implies a selectivity enhancement, where acetylene formation is not energetically favoured. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of such dopant elements for the design of Pt-based catalysts on ethane dehydrogenation.

Abstract
The structures of platinum cluster anions Pt6--Pt13- have been investigated by trapped ion electron diffraction. Structures were assigned by comparing experimental and simulated scattering functions using candidate structures obtained by density functional theory computations, including spin-orbit coupling. We find a structural evolution from planar structures (Pt6-, Pt7-) and amorphous-like structures (Pt7--Pt9-) to structures based on distorted tetrahedra (Pt9--Pt11-). Finally, Pt12- and Pt13- are based on hcp fragments. While the structural parameters are well described by density functional theory computations for all clusters studied, the predicted lowest energy structure is found in the experiment only for Pt6-. For larger clusters, higher energy isomers are necessary to obtain a fit to the scattering data.

Abstract
The stability patterns of single silver, platinum, and palladium atom doped gold cluster cations, MAuN−1+ (M = Ag, Pt, Pd; N = 3–6), are investigated by a combination of photofragmentation experiments and density functional theory calculations. The mass spectra of the photofragmented clusters reveal an odd-even pattern in the abundances of AgAuN−1+, with local maxima for clusters containing an even number of valence electrons, similarly to pure AuN+. The odd-even pattern, however, disappears upon Pt and Pd doping. Computed dissociation energies agree well with the experimental findings for the different doped clusters. The effect of Ag, Pt, and Pd doping is discussed on the basis of an analysis of the density of states of the N = 3–5 clusters. Whereas Ag delocalizes its 5s valence electron in all sizes, this process is size-specific for Pt and Pd.

Abstract
Vibrational fingerprints of small Pt(n)P(2n) (n = 1-5) clusters were computed from their low-lying structures located from a global exploration of their DFT potential energy surfaces with the GSAM code. Five DFT methods were assessed from the CCSD(T) wavenumbers of PtP2 species and CCSD relative energies of Pt2P4 structures. The eight first Pt(n)P(2n) isomers found are reported. The vibrational computations reveal (i) the absence of clear signatures made by overtone or combination bands due to very weak mechanical and electrical anharmonicities and (ii) some significant and recurrent vibrational fingerprints in correlation with the different PP bonding situations in the Pt(n)P(2n) structures.

Abstract
Vibrational spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations are used to determine the structures of small gas-phase platinum carbido clusters PtnC(+), n = 3-5. The carbon atom is found to prefer three-coordinate binding sites near the center of the cluster, in contrast to most previously investigated adatoms on transition metal clusters. The Pt3C unit is particularly stable, and binding of the carbon atom also leads to significant rearrangement of the metal framework when compared to the bare clusters.
